Human beings are desperately trying to hold their place in the world while others rise to take it from them.
Fear
It is one of the few primitive emotions that drive mankind to action. Often times what is most feared is what is not understood. If you cannot understand something, if you cannot know or comprehend the dynamics of a thing, then it drives you to fear. What does mankind do when afraid of something it doesn't understand? It lashes out for its own inadequacies at the thing it does not understand. Sometimes, mankind gets lucky, and it can over power that which it does not understand. Sometimes, that which it does not understand, fights back.
Something began to appear that mankind did not understand. Taking the form of those among them. Mutants, freaks, with natural abilities beyond those of mankind. Some were physical, some were mental, some were obvious, some were subtle, but never the less, all of them were feared.
Russia began taking such people, and imprisoning them, executing them. Several other countries followed suit, including China, most of southeast Asia, the Slavic Countries, and the Middle-East. Whereas several other countries had what they thought was a better idea. They took such people and used them as weapons in their military forces, if they could. Brittain, Israel, The United States, Spain, France, Germany, all began to create camps for these people to reside in. Those that could be controlled, were controlled and used for military purposes. Some were experimented on, and others used for manual labor.
Early on there arose two mutants with opposing views. Everyone in the public square knows of them. Xavier and Magnus. Xavier was a pacifist, a man who wanted a Utopia. He was the civil rights leader for the mutants on a legal front before the legislation passed to put them in relocation centers. When the government and the public turned against mutants, he was the first to be arrested and relocated along with his students. Going peacefully and willingly as an example. Magnus was a different creature, he believed in fighting for his rights, and perhaps that is what kept him alive. He began a cult-like following known as the Brotherhood of Magnus, which is more of a religion today than anything else.
Magnus saw the mutant-race coming closer and closer to holocaust, something that Magnus himself had lived through, and knew that it was time for war. He and his followers rose up against the humans, and practically destroyed Washington DC in a great attack. The humans retaliated against all mutants in the U.S. enforcing registration and relocation. Magnus himself disappeared, some say he will return.
Years ago, a military scientist and engineer designed a collar that was capable of scrambling the genetic code of a person with enough force that it could put a stop on mutant powers. This is not however permanent, and every twelve hours a massive shock must be given through the collar into the victim. The collars were strapped onto these men, women, and children who were labeled dangerous as well as different, and they work in the camps to which they are assigned.
Public outcry was not heard for these people, even their own parents feared them. Though there were some, a very precious few, who did not get turned over by friends or family, but escaped, and kept living in secret, moving an underground resistance. The media spins it in the wrong way, labeling them as terrorists and a threat to mankind. Who knows, maybe they are, but the time for inaction is far past, many of them believe that it's time the freaks started fighting back for their civil liberties.
The leader of the resistance, is a man by the name of Adrien Desrosiers,, known by the media and the general public as "The Mask" or "Les Masque" as he calls himself. Many have joined his underground resistance calling it the Sons of Liberty.. Will you be another? Or will you be someone who fights to save and perserve mankind? Which side will you choose? Which shade of gray?
