I've listened to rap, and being a beat fan, I can enjoy it. However, listening to the lyrics makes me wonder sometimes. The messages in rap music seem to be really aweful. I'm a strong believer that messages, even if we don't agree with them, can have an noticable effect on how we behave is they are consistently drilled into our heads.

Does anyone believe in or notice any negative effects due to rap music?

Personally, I think it contributes a lot to the disrespect of women.

I notice. Considerably. Regardless of what anyone says, musicians have more power than the president. All of them. The message, though, is in what kind of rap you listen to. The radio plays the mainstream type of rap without conscience, but have you ever once heard Dead Prez on the radio? Never. Japanese rap is just as good, too, and they don't have to rap about hoes. Nevertheless, I love rap, even though it gets tiring hearing EVERY RAPPER sing about the SAME THING.

I usually do not like japanese rap and usually don't enjoy unpopular rap. This makes sense because the radio tries to play songs they think/know are hits, songs that are pleasing to the average ear. So of the rap I hear, it's mostly negative.
I think it's more significant than the average man being a better role model in the US because it's obviously clear it's a taboo. Constant subliminal messages are very powerfull, regardless of how logical they are.
