Birth of Chaos
The story begins the usual way, or does it? It was late in December, the snow was fresh on the ground, making a grey and dull background. It was several months after a laboratory that had been working on cancer drugs had suddenly gone under, for no apparent reason. A wealthy business man saw the violence in the world, between countries and within them, and made a wise investment. Though most genetic testing was against the law, the man had talked his way around it and managed to get approval. His new company, Splice-Tech Incorporated, was located near the edge of town, mostly between the urban area, and the rural. He pumped up the security, dogs, fences, and alarm systems, and then, they began to splice DNA of creatures, trying to combine them in a way that it would live. But they failed. Every time the cell would die within a few splits of itself. Until one day.
A clumsy new lab assistant was just going from another unsuccessful and boring day of work, when she accidentally knocked over the genetic material vials. The tubes smashed to the floor, and the muddled chemicals pooled around it. Alerted by the noise, the few scientists that were left came running in. Then, something amazing happened. As they were cleaning up, they noticed a small embryo of a creature, which had been in one of the vials, was pulsing. Its tiny heart was still beating, even though it was outside the chemical suspension. Quickly, it was placed in a tube of its own, and was allowed to grow.
Over the next few months, they noticed that it grew, but did not take on the shape of any specific animal. Their testing had finally paid off. They called the creature, ‘Subject Zero.’ Eventually, the creature grew to maturity, and was brought out of its hibernation. Almost instantaneously, it began to change shape, parts of it shifting into other creatures while some stayed the same. Forever changing. And yet, it still lived. Immediately, experiments on the creature began, tissue samples, the ability to hold a certain shape. However, soon the scientists started to abuse the creature, as more of their experiments succeeded, thanks to his DNA. Then, one day, he escaped from their clutches. He killed two scientists, but for some reason, did not kill the assistant that had first created him as he ran from Split-Tech, even though she tried to stop him. After that day, no scientist spoke of ‘Subject Zero’, but then, around a similar time, the experiments began the Legend of Chaos.
