Something I thought about recently, thought it was worth a small discussion. Might consider other promotions after.
1997 seems like one answer. Harts vs. Austin (USA vs. Canada feud) lead to numerous great matches and main events, both on PPV and TV. Obviously the I Quit match. Foley vs. Triple H feud. Goldust and Lawler (right?). Taker had his title run, and matches with Shawn near the end of the year. What else? And what was bad? Feels like 2006 and 2007 would be in the discussion, and I kind of wish the great TV matches on Smackdown in 2006 coincided with Cena's long title run where he was carrying everyone to great matches (and having that Umaga match). Which year was Matt Hardy's and MVPs best run? 2006 had Undertaker vs. Angle, 2007 has Undertaker vs. Batista. Obviously, no-one murdered their children in 2006. Thoughts? -------------------- As one of those British wrestling fans that they have now, I obviously love the Young Bucks and BxB Hulk. Read Spin Fly Kick for more on this.

2009 has to take it for me, output was ridiculous. Between ECW, Superstars and Smackdown there would be like 3 legit 'very good' matches every single week. Christian suddenly became one of the best in the world, Rey was killing it, Goldust was back, Regal got a decent push, and new guys like Swagger, Bourne and Knox were performing pretty well. I think it was when CM Punk started to get good too. Big Show had one of his career years, maybe behind only 2008, and got into some cool stuff with Mark Henry.
