I love lucha libre and I especially love lucha libre that is a short bus ride from my house. According to the myspace page for the promoters this show is held at a club called La Boom and ticket prices range from $30-$50.

Ticket prices that high seem weird for this type of show. I get it since they're bringing in Santo, Demon, et al but I get the feeling it'll backfire.

I'm assuming that Porky won't be able to make it (acutal current EMLL guy working on show with Santo seems unlikely).

I also really love Local v local.

Sounds like a write-in MotY candidate to me--because we all know Queens has a killer local lucha scene, right?

Well, Rodz's school is in Brooklyn and his trainees did fine with Lucha style at the Va Voom show.

Well, it ain't in Queens anymore. I guess I don't mind traveling to Passaic, NJ to see one of my favorite wrestlers of all time (Santito) in person. I'm probably way too excited. Even Blue Demon Jr being his opponent can't bring me down.

Same card (allegedly) and now it's general admission for $25. Doors open at 3:00pm.

From my experience, Santito's always been worth seeing live. I've seen him a handful of times and his usual offense of the Santo headscissors, his tope de Christo combo, armdrags and hurricaranas are always a blast to experience in person. I think he's the smoothest worker I've ever seen live.

Does the show start at 3 or at 9? It is pretty confusing looking.

OK I called the number on the poster and the guy said they are running two shows, one show during the day in Queens one show at night in New Jersey.

Damn, I hope I get the chance to call during a break from work tomorrow. I can't find any info on the Queens show.

EDIT: I just got through on the first number. I was told that the Queens show starts at 1:00 and the New Jersey show starts at 5:00. Color me confused. My friend already purchased tickets for the NJ show yesterday. Oh well. Next time I'm in charge of buying tickets.

we are at the queens show. Pretty packed. 50$ at the door which is twice as much as I have ever paid to see wrestling before. Show still seems 2 hours from starting. Super porky is selling gimmicks. Danny demanto is wandrering around.

azreal beat danny demanto and bandito jr in a 3 way

swat cat beat bazooka in a wmotd candidate

both matches were all focused on the heel ref. So far this feels like onee of those awful acm lucha shows from 2002

Wasn't able to end up going...there were no $30 & $40 tix at the door? Now I'm sorta glad I didn't go.

You still have Cassandro and Santo matches though...

don't think cassandro is here, they haven't mentioned him. We are in the middle of intermission right now. I am just worried they don't have another ref.

Last two matches were

Octogoncito/Aguila Del America v. Tzuki/Porky

Porky comedy which is amusing Aguila del America sucks, worked embarrassingly loose

El Hijo Del Santo v. Oliver John v. Blue Demon Jr.

Santo did his thing, Demon and John were nothing. We will have a review up on SC soon. Pretty disappointing show, although I enjoyed it

We ended up going to NJ which at least made this seem a little more adventurous. Unfortunately it was the same card (we had an opener with what appeared to be two locals as well). I had fun but this thing really dragged on. The amount of time between matches was ridiculous. I'm not enough of a grouch to complain about kids posing with the wrestlers between matches but there were a few instances where the pauses continued after that was over. It was like a wrestling show with multiple intermissions.

Santo looked pretty good even though the main event made hardly any sense. They put so much heat on Oliver John that when he was eliminated the crowd stopped caring. Porky always amuses me. Disappointed about Cassandro. Oh well.

A little before 5:30 they had the locals wrestle (Jay Santana vs some chubby guy whose name I didn't catch who was a referee later in the show). These were the same guys who were putting together the ring when we arrived at about 3:45. Azrael, Bandito Jr, and Demanto went on before 6:00.

Wow. Sounds like it might have been better run than the Queens show, where they had people waiting outside for more than an hour after the listed start time. We figured Passaic might not start until 8 p.m. at the pace they were going.

The multiple intermissions on a four-match show were ridiculous, and the undercard sucked. But it was a hot crowd and a kick to see Santo and Porky live.
