Current Level
Class One: - You've just gained your powers. - You have never used your powers or they are latent. - Your powers are something that will never be needed. For example: manipulating door hinges. - Your mutation causes you to loose an arm and not get it back. In other words, its effects are detrimental to your health and it doesn't provide you with benefits to offset them. - Your mutation tears off your nose, scars your face and corrodes your hands, but doesn’t affect anyone else. [Physical Mutations]
Class Two: - You have the slightest of abilities to affect the world around you. - You see that people vaguely smile when they see you. - You possess no useless physical mutations. - You are capable of using your abilities to save yourself to some extent. - With training and hardwork, you might be able to advance. - Your powers are useful, but largely passive. eg, photographic memory that applies to text only. - Your character is not involved in any faction, thus has never had training. - Your powers are uncontrollable.
Class Three: - You possess a moderate capacity to be successful in rescuing yourself or someone else. - You are able to defend yourself when it comes to combat. - Your powers have the potential to become better and grow. - You show signs of willpower and have the determination to improve yourself. - You have been learning to manage your powers. - You can your powers on and off at will but they are very prone to emotional interferences. - Your powers are relatively 'okay,' meaning that you can affect the world around you to some extent but not cause wide-scale devastation. Your powers may also elicit some reactions from others but not awe them to any great degree.
Class Four: - You are the master of your abilities. - You have the ability to rescue both yourself and others with nary a worry. - Your emotions have little sway on your ability to control your powers. - You are able to help others control their abilities by demonstrating how you control yours. - You are able to complete given tasks or missions with the help of your powers.
Class Five: - You happen to be Jean Grey. - Or Vulcan. - Or scary ass Elixir.
1. Age Let's be realistic. If your character is 14 years old, there is no way in HELL that he is going to be a higher level than someone who is 30. It's just not possible. Their potential power level might be way high, but they certainly won't be able to control it, or even use all the aspects of it.
2. Powers Certain powers can only reach certain levels. If you're a pyrokinetic, there are only so many things you can do, and your power level could potentially go stale at around a class 3, with class 4 potential. If your character is extremely experienced in the execution and use of his powers, he has a higher chance of being sorted into a higher class as the character's training is taken into account. After all, if a character is capable of strategizing, he can use his abilities in a more efficient manner. Physical powers might be ranked lower on a scale of sheer POWER, but that doesn't mean a class 2 mutant with claws couldn't take down a class 4 telepath.
3. Faction This is easy. People classified as "neutral" get far lower current power ratings than someone who's with the X-Men or Brotherhood. This is simply because mutants who are neutral are usually trying to hide their powers, don't use them nearly as often, and get next to no training with them at all. It's as simple as that.
Just because you are classified as a level two, doesn't mean your powers suck. It might just mean that you have a largely passive power (eg. x-ray vision or the ability to...summon pieces of paper o.O) that won't help you a lot in an actual battle. Doesn't mean you can't get way creative with them (massive paper cuts anyone?)
It also doesn't mean you can't advance levels. If you're a pyrokinetic with recently discovered powers, you might start out as a level 1, but with a little bit of training and a little bit of experience, you can quickly advance up the classes.
Type of Mutant ALPHA Alpha mutants have powerful, advantageous mutant traits and no disadvantageous flaws. Perhaps the most feared of mutants, alphas look completely human yet have some of the most powerful abilities recorded. Common belief is that Homo Superior will eventually be formed by all alphas, and therefore alphas are the epitome of mutant-kind. Classify Mutants as Alpha level if they have a normal human appearance and their mutation is powerful, useful and controllable (i.e. turn it on and off, direct it at will.)
BETA Betas are not much weaker than alphas in what power regards (Their powers are mainly for reasons beyond offense, and defense.), but they are not perfect. Along their advantageous mutations they have minor flaws, sometimes merely cosmetic, but that hinders them in some significant way. Classify mutants as Beta Level if they have a normal human appearance and their mutation is powerful, useful, but less controllable, like Cyclops who can't turn his power off, but can still lead a normal life with only minor preparation. Wolverine, who has healing powers, can't ever decide NOT to rapidly heal from an injury, but this does not impair him in any reasonable way.
GAMMA Gammas are also powerful mutants, having some impressive gifts, but along with those powers they also have major flaws that make their lives hard, often miserable, and many times, shortened. They are usually easy to recognize, as they are often saddled with important physical, mental, or emotional defects. Classify mutants as Gamma Level if their mutation is powerful, uncontrollable, sometimes useful but usually detrimental to living a normal life, such as a monstrously inhuman appearance that can't be switched off at will.
DELTA Delta mutants lack the impressive powers of alphas, but share their many of flaws. Deltas are mutants with small abilities of little use under most circumstances. The number of deltas in the world is unknown, but it is assumed they are at least 50% of all mutants, and the number could be far greater because a good number of deltas don't even know they are mutants. Classify mutants as Delta-Level if thy have a normal human appearance, but their mutagenic powers are weaker or only narrowly applicable, though still controllable.
EPSILON Epsilons are the unfortunate ones among Homo Superiors. Epsilons often have minor superhuman traits, but those are overshadowed by crippling major flaws that makes a normal life for them almost completely impossible. It is believed about 20% of all mutants are epsilons, but often is very difficult to distinguish them from gammas. Classify mutants as Episilon Level if they have an inhuman appearance or their mutation makes it impossible for them to function normally. Any accompanying "superpowers" would be next to useless. Epsilon mutants are differentiated from Gamma mutants in that a Gamma mutant's inhuman appearance would provide a compensating benefit like superior strength.
OMEGA Omega mutants are a certain powerful class of super-powered individuals in the universe to indicate mutants with the ability (or potential) to exist beyond the boundaries of physical existence. Immortality is also a possibility, but not a requirement. Being able to control matter and energy on the sub-molecular scale also seems to be a requirement. Only classify mutants as Omega Level if they have been explicitly referenced as Omega Level within continuity or if they regularly match the feats of a known Omega Level mutant.
If you guys have any questions/comments/find any flaws/suggestions for this stuff, TELL ME. I borrowed a lot of it from The Final Solution, the Marvel Universe Wiki, and if some of this doesn't seem to work for this game, TELL ME. Also, if you disagree with your characters ranking, and can use evidence from here to back it up, lemme know =]
