There has always seemed to be some sort ofargument between the vampires and the werewolves over who settled in Sparrow first. The vampires, being the cocky bunch that that are, insisted without a shout of a doubt that they were the first ones to put roots down here in the city. The werewolves, a territorial bunch that was known for protecting such territory from all invaders, swear upon the moon that they were the first ones here. This eventually led to an entire discussion about who should leave and who should stay; a petty fourth grade argument between the cheerleaders and the pom-pom squad if you want my opinion. Yet, they are both wrong.

I was the first one to put down roots here and it is from me that they both sought out this place, drawn by the naturally dark aura that I seem emit everywhere I go.

This story, however, isnt about me and I refuse to tell it. That tale, that novel, is for another time when more interesting things have been left in the dark. For the purpose of telling this how it happened, to the best of my ability and memory mind you, Dominic Valmont was the first one to enter Sparrow Massachusetts and not be of human blood. Well, hes not of any blood at all, but he definitely isnt human and because he shares only the outer layer of his existence with the human population, I should have suspected something was up from the beginning. He came into the city inquiring about the best contractors he could use to build an exquisite manor in which to house a very large number of people. Immediately, I thought this manor was for a family that was too close to be separatedeven though Mr. Valmont was further away from daddy than black is to white.

Nevertheless, his manor was built and after such a superb piece of property was deemed inhabitable, the master vampire was sure to bring along some female company. She was a pretty little exotic thing, as far as humans turned into blood-drinking leeches go, but she wasnt the only one that moved in that night. A cabdriver, the very same whom had brought her to the manor, was taken in by the hospitable Mr. Valmont and obviously deemed to live there. At this, I should have intervened, should have stopped his plans, whatever they were, from growing and spreading, but I will admit that my curiosity got the better of me. I wanted to know what was going to happen.

It wasnt too long before more and more vampires began to appear at the manor, requesting to see Dominic and entertain him for a spell. A large number of them were then seen leaving only to return with bags and bags of their personal belongings or suitcases of things that had been with them since they were human. A smaller number of vampires, however, we seen leaving, never to darken the clan masters doorstep ever again. This, by itself, was intriguing, but what also caught my attention was the aura of human coming from the house as well. Were there really human beings living willingly with the masses of vampires inside those sturdy walls? And from that question came an even more astounding realization.

Since my eyes had been trained on the masses of vampires inhabiting the area, flocking to the manor and staying there, I hadnt seen the other supernatural being until they were already well-moved in and recruiting. It had been a while since the National Park had had an owner, someone to front money and keep the place open to wildlife and tourist and such, and was soon to be demolished entirely to make way for new housing complexes. That was before a Mr. Chester Billings saw the property and thought it right to buy it, fix it up, and deem it inhabitable as well. And when the city tried to give him living complexes for himself as well as his workers to sleep in, he declined and promptly told them that the cabins we have on the property will do well enough before leaving. Papers signed, leases done, park fixed up; it was renamed after the man whom I was to find out was a werewolf. At this, I had to laugh for on one end of the town was a gang of vampires whom, assumingly, had humans under their thumb and living with them while, on the other end of town, was a newly forming pack of werewolves. By natural instinct alone, the two are mortal enemies and now, they were in relative close proximity. I immediately grabbed a bag of popcorn.

Mere months had passed and the two were completely oblivious to the existence of one another, the humans that lived in the city just as blindsided. I suppose it was for the best, no one knowing about anyone else, or there would have been a major war or something equally catastrophic happening. The numbers on both teams were about even and, aside from their rather insignificant interspecies squabbles, everything was rather peaceful. Even the vampires and werewolves whom didnt attach themselves to their respective hosts were peaceful. All in all, it was very boring. I believe thats when I thought to throw a party, just for old time sake, at the club in the downtown area of town. The name of the club, I believe, is Ambrosia and from what my intelligence tells me, its a rather popular spot among the youth as well as the supernatural. And just to make it irresistible, it was free to get in. How could either side say no?

I expected drama, expected a fight or an argument to happen, so I was sure to place the proper people in the bar so none of the humans got hurt, but merely sitting back and watching it unfold was almost unbearable. At first, it seemed as if they were, again, going to be blindsided by each other and there would be no interaction between them at all. Yet, when Dominics little woman friend recognized someone leaning against the bar, the Beta of the werewolf pack at the time, hell almost broke loose. She stormed up to the man and began to jab her finger in his face, raising her voice and making a proper scene of things. The man, however, sipped his drink and grinned before replying to her, eyes calm and tone mocking. Maybe it was the tone of his voice or the things that he said that ticked her off, but whatever it was; she reeled back and slapped him smartly across the face.

I think thats when one of the males friends, a lithe women clad in leather that obviously worked at the club, stalked over between them and promptly told the vampire that there was no reason to get bent out of shape in public like that and that she was causing a scene and could she promptly remove herself from the club. This little speech seemed to entertain the vampire, not the two werewolves she was facing off with, and she laughed rather loudly in the female werewolfs face before jabbing her finger in her direction as well. Look here you dog, she uttered in a tone laced with malice. I dont take orders from flea-bitten mutts like you or him, so both of you jackasses can fuck off.

THAT was when all hell broke loose. Im not sure who threw the first punch or what was said that made anyone lunge for someone opposing them, but right there, in the middle of the club, in plain sight of humans and everyone else, the two factions got into a rather heated fight. It was amusing to watch really, what with the werewolves and their superior strength and the vampires with their supernatural abilities, it was quite a scene for some B-horror movie. Yet, the werewolves had to go and spoil it by get their tempers all in tizzy and threatening to shift forms, their tee-shirts and pants and skin suddenly pulling tight over their bodies while sweat seemed to pool off their faces.

My werepanthers moved in then, separating them and escorting both groups out of separate exits. The humans didnt know what to make of it, what to think, and maybe it was better that way. Meanwhile, on the other side of town, a little before both groups had been separated into their appropriate corners for a nice long time out, the master vampire and pack alpha had gone out for a hunt. It was only by some random chance of fate, or some cruel joke by her, that the two met up nearest the park and decided to wage their own war. Not only for a chance at the human they were hunting, but because, like ying and yang, vampires and werewolves were mortal enemies. Ill tell you this now, it ended in a stale mate with both sides equally winded. Retreating back to their own homesteads, the vampires to the manor and the werewolves to the National Park, both sides knew that they would have to sit down and work this one out. If they were both matched in skill and numbers, then an open war would be stupid not to mention reckless and would expose them both for what they truly were to the humans.

The plan went smoothly to meet up the local caf though, unknown to the vampires and the werewolves, there was a spy amongst their midst. She was naught but a young girl, one that Dominic had let stay in the caf to serve both him and the werewolves. It had been his idea to meet there in the first place and maybe it was an idea that he didnt execute to the best of his ability. However, the meeting progressed and the spy caught every word that was said between werewolf and vampire alike. Besides the two brawls that almost happened, the many colorful names that got passed between the vampires and werewolves, Dominic and Chester alone kept their cool and convinced their charges to a treaty. Yet, the treaty was, as most treaties were, far from perfect.

It was deemed that the vampires were not allowed to hunt anywhere past midnight and such hunting hours would be reserved for werewolves only. If any werewolf caught a vampire out past their curfew, their execution could be promised. They werent allowed to change any humans into vampires and would even be accountable if the lone vampires, the ones that Dominic had no say over whatsoever, changed humans into creatures of the night. If that happened, then no pity was to be given to said new-blood vampire when the werewolves decided to come and kill them. The vampires werent allowed inside the National Park, as per usual, nor were they to be seen anywhere around the hospital since it was a place known to have a blood bank. The werewolves were given the task to stay away from places like Ambrosia which was claimed as a vampire territory and Dominic decreed that if he caught word of them reproducing, there would be hell to pay for not only the mother, but the entire pack. And, as ruthless as Chester had been to Dominic, the vampire master repaid the favor by making sure that Chester knew about the unleashed mutts in the city as well. They werent to be having sex and producing offspring eitherand Dominic knew how hard it would be not to listen to the urges of mating season.

After such hours and territories were laid down, an official piece of parchment was drawn between them, a pen passed between them as well. Names were scrawled on the dotted lines and a steely glare passed from vampire lord to pack alpha and back again. Neither one of them was eager to have this sealed in stone nor were they jumping with joy to have to do this. Hunting rights were established; the vampires got the humans and the werewolves got whatever animals wandered into their National Park. All killings were to be disguised as murders or random acts of violence and such and should any media attention come to the werewolves, or the vampires for that matter, the treaty was to be broken. Adding, if any werewolf came into Valmont manor, or if any vampire trespassed upon the National Park, it was as good as lighting a firework that said start the civil war now and would be deemed as such. After another round of brash name calling, arguments about how unfair the treaty sounded, and so forth, the factions parted ways and the night grew quiet once again.

Well, actually, it wasnt really quiet to begin with, but Im sure you understand where Im coming from. After Dominic and Chester left with their chargers, a certain someone cleaned up after them and, unlike the two males she was with who had been hypnotized into believing that they had just done overtime for extra pay, Ashton wasnt so stupid nor were her mental blocks so weak and she was a damned good actress. With the caf clean and spotless, she trotted off to her home and her husband to share what she had learned.

Now, this in itself was interesting for I had never seen a human fight something as powerful as vampiric hypnosis, so I had to see just what she was up to. And, of course, I got my answer when she arrived home. Sitting her husband Markus down, she told him about the meeting that she had overheard, the plans that the werewolves and vampires had and how, for the better of humanity, they had to stop them. Would you believe me if I told you I was shocked? Surely not, right? Well, I was. In all my time of watching over different cities and towns, never before when supernatural beings had come into living in close proximity with humans did another human take their existence somild and dredge up a plan to stop the reproduction of said supernatural beings. Really, it astounded me. Yet, when Markus said something or other about drawing the others out of hiding and reuniting the coven, I had my answer to why they were so against the vampires and werewolves of Sparrow. They were witches, the saviors of human kind and destroyers of all things evil

Well, at least, some of them were. I had seen plenty who would rather the black magic side of things, the side that destroys rather than creates, and it was more likely that said black magic wielders would side WITH the vampires or the werewolves rather than against them. However, maybe these new magick users were different than the 39,175 I had seen throughout the making of the world. Also immediately, the two witches went into action.

It wasnt even a month before the warehouse near the slums of town, the old and decrepit part that had once flourished because of it, was bought up and assumed to be operating once again. There was clinks and bangs and sometimes smoke could be seen rising from the chimneys and thats when I knew that this thing that was happening, this threesome between these powerful races, was going to either have to be stopped or the entire town might poof off the face of the planet. Werewolves and vampires at each others throats I can deal with, but adding witches into the mix, a powerful species of humans whom had mastered, or nearly mastered in the cases of some, the art of magick was asking for trouble. So, I did what I could, tried to influence the city council to revoke Chesters license to keep the National Park and evoke some zoning code against Dominics manor, but it was futile. Dominic merely paid the council off and Chester, surprisingly really, showed them papers and recipes and such that rendered the National Park entirely his and the council could do nothing about. It seemed I was powerless to stop whatever was coming.

Thats when the witches made their first strike. The coven, which was gaining numbers rather rapidly and consisting of both black magic and white magic users, split into two different teams and headed out into the night with a single duffle bag between them. Ashton led a team straight to the area around Valmont manor while Markus took his chargers to the edge of the National Park. Using a speaking spell between them, they timed their attacks and zeroed in on one person from the clan and one person from the pack, neither people being overly important to either faction but important enough to make a statement. Ashtons group caught Hypatia as she was coming back from a late feeding, already breaking the laws that the vampires and werewolves had set down for it was far past midnight. Ambushing the female vampiress, who put up quite a struggled and used her telekinetic power to keep them at bay for a while, the witches knocked her unconscious with another spell that left one of them winded and dizzy before they began to desecrate her body. Makeshift claws were pulled from the duffle bag along with other devices for which to scar her skin to make it look like a werewolf attack. When the sun rose in six hours and touched Hypatias skin, she would burst into golden dust like the rest of her kind. Making sure that there was enough evidence to point to a werewolf attack, the group crept silently away after stashing her body behind the house, making sure that the vampires would be able to find it.

Markuss group, on the other hand, had targeted the Beta werewolf, Kaleb Burrows. He had been simply making his rounds, guarding the borders of the pack land like any good canine would do when Markus and his group called for him to come out from the National Park. They feigned as if one of their friends were hurt and Kaleb, being the nice male that he was, assisted them in carrying him to some car that they would drive to take him to the hospital. That was when the group ambushed the werewolf, a black magician using his powers to make Kaleb phase into his werewolf form though, afterwards, the magician fainted because of the strain it had on his body. Balls of electricity as well as a silvery web that held Kaleb down, came from all direction and hammered into him until he was too weak to strand and bleeding profusely. Yet, so were the witches whom were causing his demise. Markus took pleasure in killing the male, making his work seem like that of a vampire attack, the puncture wounds on his neck done with a pair of fangs fashioned from silver. And even though they had taken down this Beta, he had lost some of his own and that bothered him. If they took out clan and pack members like this, one by one, they wouldnt have any followers left. Stringing him up by his tail on the edge of the massive forest that was apart of the National Park, the witches went back to the warehouse where they met up with Ashtons faction and celebrated.
