The dusty smell of old tomes wafted through the old section of the library, filled with reference books, old news papers, books on magic, and anything you wanted to know about the powers that many of the students of these very halls possessed. Wolfgang loved being back here. Sure, it was always fun to be a nuisance to those trying to study, but quite honestly, he loved to read. He supposed it was mostly due to the fact that it was the easiest way to get away from his family on the rare occasions he was home, but it didn’t really matter. It seemed that almost no one came to these parts of the library anymore, so it was always peaceful and quiet. Wolfgang liked to be alone sometimes, instead of being surrounded by his malicious classmates. Sure, he was all for the Death Eaters, but sometimes all the talk got old.
Sitting at one of the old oak tables, Wolfgang let one of the heavy tomes fall open before him, leafing through the delicate pages until he found something that seemed interesting. Oh no, he didn’t have to have a reason or a specific topic to want to read. He probably could have picked up any book in the entire library and find something that he would be interested in, though this time it seemed an essay on Empathic powers from a student who had been here long ago.
“Since empathy involves understanding the emotions of other people, the way it is characterized is derivative of the way emotions themselves are characterized. If for example, emotions are taken to be centrally characterized by bodily feelings, then grasping the bodily feelings of another will be central to empathy. On the other hand, if emotions are more centrally characterized by combinations of beliefs and desires, then grasping these beliefs and desires will be more essential to empathy.
Furthermore, a distinction should be made between deliberately imagining being another person, or being in their situation, and simply recognizing their emotion. The ability to imagine oneself as another person is a sophisticated imaginative process that only fully develops with time, or with considerable training, investigation, or imagination. However the basic capacity to recognize emotions is probably innate and may be achieved unconsciously. Yet it can be trained, and achieved with various degrees of intensity or accuracy.”
Shaking his head, he let out a soft laugh. He had never really believed in any of the empathy, divination type stuff, simply because he never had reason to. Yawning, he let the book fall shut with a dull thud and leaned back in his chair, propping his feet up against the table, his arms folded over his chest. Perhaps he hadn't wanted to leave the company of his classmates, he was quite bored now that he was all alone. It was quite a disappointment. The towers at Beauxbaton was much too light and airy for his taste after growing up in dark and dank castle rooms that left your soul colder than it had been before. Taking a deep breath, he looked over his shoulder as he heard a noise from one of the bookshelves behind him, perhaps he would have company after all; "Hello...?"
