Since the Queen Elizabeth carriers are being assembled at rosyth in a drydock built for the last cancelled Queen Elizabeth class carriers has anyone checked If they will fit under/through the Forth Railway Bridge? could be a very embarassing omission?

It is a requirement that all RN vessels are able to pass under the bridges, allowing for optimal tides. It's been that way for many years, so I'm sure they remembered.

I should not worry about it Rifleman the chances of these ships ever seeing the water are remote.Even if they are built it will take so long to build them the Forth bridge would have rusted away ;)

They may build one maybe, or even both; but I can't see how the M.O.D. is going to finance their completion and service while retaining a Trident replacement and all the other surface warfare projects. Maybe one could be shared with France? That is not as far-fertched as it sounds, as I beleive France needs more carrier capability - and at least they still have some sort of air wing :(
The way things are going we'll be enthuising about the latest o.p.v. project before too long :P |

As cost saving measure they may be constructed at Rosyth, but who said they'll have to put sea?,
Just sitting there in dock, "Fleet in being" as it were. The German did it so why not the UK? |

These ships was first announced in the 1998 defence reveiw,if it's taken 12 years to get to this stage in times of relative prosperity the chances of them being continued in a recession are as slim as Twiggy. The UK government has a poor history with regard to carrier construction post 1945.[CVA 01] etc.I can't visualise HMG of whatever colour paying at least £5 billion plus a similar amount on a decent size air wing to sit about looking pretty.
