* HOW WE SORT !
How do we decided what house your character is in?
Below are some deciding factors, and their importance!
WHY DO WE SORT?
We like to think that the hat sorts the character... not the character sorts themselves. We also have done this, in addition to keeping the board canon, will help us regulate the number of characters in each house. We will
always give your personal choice precedence over ANY of these other criteria!
If you have questions about what we look for for each individual house, please check THIS TOPIC (which will be linked sometime)
FAMILY!Importance: varied. It highly depends on the specific family your character comes from.
Sometimes houses go in families. Malfoys are Slytherins. Weasleys are Gryffindors. But your character's parents' house does not determine your character's house in most cases... just look at Sirius Black. Parents were Ravenclaws, but your character can't stand books? Just because your parents were nerds doesn't mean you have to be one. It really depends with canon characters (c'mon, Scorpius Malfoy will not be a Gryffindor), but for most characters family will be a 'tie-breaker' sort of factor. This doesn't mean that EVERY WEASLEY on our board will be a Gryffindor, by ANY means. Nor does it mean that the daughter of Draco and Astoria can't be a Hufflepuff... but be prepared for possible family disapproval. If your character's parents were hard core Slytherins, it's likely your character will be expected to be in Slytherin. Be realistic when deciding how your character's family raised him/her, and how he/she turned out.
VALUES!Importance: very important
Believe in justice? Gryffindor might be for you. Hate muggleborns? Maybe Slytherin would suit. What your character values has a lot to do with where they end up-- you'll want to be with people who share those values!
PERSONALITY!Importance: important
We're not saying shy students don't get into Gryffindor and there aren't some crazy party-ers in Ravenclaw... but personailty traits have a lot to do with where yours sorted too.
BLOOD!Importance: applicable only in some situations
No muggleborns in Slytherin. Sorry. Other than that, blood doesn't have a lot to do with where your character will end up. If your character's family is a blood purist family, perhaps that might effect, but that's more along the lines of a value.
The second code word is 'shock'.
CHOICE!Importance: most important.
You're free to suggest a house for your character! We WILL take it into consideration, just like the sorting hat would. But if you're a hardcore Hufflepuff begging to be in Gryffindor, it's not going to happen. Choice is a DEFINITE tie breaker, so it's best to voice a preference if you have one. It's also worth mentioning if there's a specific house you DON'T want your character to be in. If we think your character belongs most in the house you don't want, we'll PM you before sorting and have a little chat. We want you to enjoy your characters, thus we're going to give you chances get them where you want them!
