late november (19-30) all over the isles the rain is getting colder, the highlands are buried under several feet of snow, and as if that wasn't bad enough... beware the wind! it's frigid and out to bite.
Okay, so it’s not so much a plot as it is a structural guideline for members and inquisitive guests, just so we don’t get all mixed up and confuddled by the wonderfully convoluted and reasonably alternate universe we have created for the purpose of our developmental writing experience. As I was typing that I realized I could replace “developmental” with “demented” and it really wouldn’t have changed anything. Ain’t the truth grand? :] Anyway – here’s my (and therefore God’s) plan for what this year is going to shape up to, with subsequent references to past and future events. Plot as you will, but please keep this timeline in mind.
1975&6: FIFTH YEAR
As you all know, this is the magical year for the Marauders. As fifth years, James, Sirius, and Peter finally master the ability to transform into full animagi. They are now at liberty to join Remus on his escapades, and can encourage him to leave the safety of his shack and explore the rest of Hogsmeade and Hogwarts. It is unlikely that the Marauders would have developed their nicknames (other than Moony) before fifth year, though the individual names could have potentially been created somewhere during their fourth year, as the group attempted to transform.
As of yet, the Marauders’ Map has not been created, but it is likely that someone will come up with the idea for it during this year. There is a chance that they could begin to create it, but it would not be fully functioning. However, it would be fun to watch it develop.
Sirius still lives with his parents, at their home in London (12 Grimmauld Place).
The story doesn’t simply end with the marauders, I’m afraid. For those of you wonderfully devoted Slytherins and fanciers, your story is equally important as theirs, if not more so. As was previously mentioned, we have done some serious damage in jumbling up the years and what not so that we could have an exciting, multi-faceted roleplay that doesn’t just involve the Marauders growing up until they’re old enough to be tortured and killed by Death Eaters. Instead, the future Death Eaters have their own growing up to do as well:
1975&6: CONTINUED.
As seventh years, the older Slytherins are not yet in the full service of the Dark Lord. They are, however, completely aware of the Dark Arts, some of them having family and what not already involved, and their potential as future supporters. They are exceedingly loyal to one another – that is, until they realise that selling each other out to Voldemort can be more effective. Lucius, Rodolphus and Bellatrix will be the first ones to pledge their service, and will be nominally responsible for converting others to the cause. Within the school, they are in charge – and will adopt new Death Eaters as they see fit.
The Inner Circle is particularly important – because it is the hierarchy upon which the pureblood system is founded, applied to the students. Lucius is in charge, with Rodolphus and Bellatrix at his side. Together they form something of a triumvirate, rather than a dictatorial line, though when it doubt – Lucius is the go-to king. (For justification, please see: God’s Opinion on Slytherin Social Dynamics.)
Important: While the current seventh years are still at school, they are in charge. With the exception of the future Order members, a few select seventh years, and the Marauders, most students fear or respect them, accordingly – though the plottage is debateable between players. The older students are at liberty to use dark magic as they will, but younger students need remember that Dark Magic is not easy, and Roddy, Bella, Luc, and Alecto are very talented witches and wizards. Please use restraint in your… episodes.
As the years progress, and the Slytherins start to vanish, the Marauders obviously begin to take control of the school. James mellows out, Sirius moves out, Remus relaxes, and Peter starts to wonder where he should throw his galleons. The Order begins to develop! There are no real dates set out for the Order, other than Dumbledore suddenly spawned the idea in the 1970s. (Load of good that does us!) My theory is that, since Dumbledore and Mr. J. Potter were evidently so close, James would have had a hand in creating it – or at least perfecting it, if the idea didn’t already exist. I’m sure there was some sort of resistance to dear ol’ Voldy from the start, but nothing strictly organised. Once the Maraudership is complete, members can discuss amongst themselves what their plans are and where they’d like to stand on that count, so it’s not really all that strict – this is just for clarity.
1976&7: TROUBLE IS BREWING
For the Marauders, the Map is developed during their sixth year.
For the Death Eaters, the Slytherins are fully out of school, and fully ensnared into Voldemort’s service.
Sirius moves in with the Potters over the summer, after he runs away from home.
1977&8: THE WAR IS HERE.
The Marauders are in their seventh year, fully prepared to fend off the increasing Death Eater attacks. Basically, war has arrived, by this point, and all that’s left is to wait for the Marauders to get out of school and start fighting back.
Meanwhile, the Death Eaters have taken the country by storm, and are causing incredible havoc, dragging people into their service, bewitching others, the whole kit and caboodle, as it were.
Did I mention Lily and James start dating? –gags–
Well, this is a somewhat shorthand version of the way things unfortunately have to pan out, if we’re to keep at all to the canon. Granted, if the players took it upon themselves to vote – and veer off track where they willed, that’d be perfectly fine too. This is just a base idea, in hopes of keeping the story going. If Lily and James don’t make it to Harry’s birth… I’m totally fine with that.
