early november (1-8) all over the isles the rain is getting colder, the highlands are buried under several feet of snow, and as if that wasn't bad enough... beware the wind! it's frigid and out to bite.
Emmeline felt like such a child asking for sweets, almost to the point of blushing though she was saved the further embarrassment by the gracious smile on his face. It helped knowing how well Benjy knew her needs. "Great." She breathed, watching him lovingly as he bent to the house elf. She was unaware of the feelings however, though her eyes were spilling it all. The look was gone by the time he looked at her again even though she was still smiling like a lunatic. She loved how courteous he was with everyone. [if you hadn't noticed...this has the worst sentence structure but I can't bear to take out and don't know how to fix it better...it's already been fixed once...<3]
"If I were on cloud nine before, then I have to wonder what cloud I'm on now." She blurted out before she could stop herself, turning a shad of pink as she did so. Biting down on her lip to try and stop herself from turning even redder, she diverted her eyes and reached for one of the sticky buns though she didn't immediately bite into it. Instead she was marvelling over how quickly their relationship had changed - and into a good change for that matter. While she couldn't pinpoint the exact day or month even, of when she had decided she wanted something bigger with Benjy, she had known for awhile that where were more, romantic things of late that she had wanted to share with him.
Now though, the flood gates had been opened and she wasn't likely going to be spared an once of embarrassment. She could only hope that he wouldn't make fun of her for it and that, eventually, she would get over it. Finally talking a bit at his urging, her face lit up in a whole new manner as she turned her happy eyes up to him again. "These are good!" She exclaimed, looking everything like a five year old who just got a new doll. "I don't think I've ever had the flavour...It's raspberry?" She asked, grinning as she took another bite. "You could probably finish the plate without my help..." She teased with a smile.

"If I were on cloud nine before, then I have to wonder what cloud I'm on now."
The statement took Benjy by surprise, as he’d never heard Emmeline talk like this before. Perhaps he had, but it wasn’t her default tone, at least not around him. Then again, this was completely new territory and a new demeanor should accompany it. Benjy hadn’t ever had a relationship, and he wondered what it would do to him. It was Emme, of course so it wouldn’t be hard. That’s what he assumed, anyway. To be honest, Benjy didn’t have much of a romantic bone. He watched others woo their girlfriends, and it was impressive but some of it looked a little stupid. Stupidity was not on Emme’s agenda; Benjy would bet his life on it. “Ah, Emme… this is going to be great.” He said, almost gushing. There wasn’t really doubt on his mind, just worry that he’d screw it up. He did bumble a lot.
The boy could only hope that Emmeline would help him out. She’d done this before. She didn’t usually beat around the bush. She could tell him when he was being an oaf, and when he was doing something right. At least, he hoped she would. Emmeline didn’t have to do a thing, really. She was already as perfect as the definition makes it. In Benjy’s slate green eyes she was beyond perfect. A strange enigma that he had quote some time to figure out. So far… well, there was lots of understand. That made it all the more enjoyable.
"I don't think I've ever had the flavor...it’s raspberry?"
“I don’t know, honestly,” He said with a slightly completive tone to his voice. There were so many things that made the wizard cuisine better than any other he’d tried, but he didn’t know what those things were. “Could be some strange berry Dumbledore discovered on one of his many travels…” And the boy could picture it. “Whatever it is, it’s great.”
"You could probably finish the plate without my help..."
Benjy felt his face flush, but he looked up at her with a smile, regardless. He did eat a lot, it was true. The boy blamed Quidditch. He was always out on the field, burning up whatever he just ate. And of course, the food was ridiculously good. But he put half of his pastry in the rubbish, suddenly full up. “Oh, no need to worry. I’m quite full.” Benjy stood, meandering away from the counter he’d been stationed at. He stretched his long legs, and in the middle of popping a few knuckles, he sighed. “Well, lady, I best be getting back to bed. Lessons will be murder if I don’t get at least an hour or so.”
Giggling slightly, she finished the last bite of her sweet and she nodded enthusiastically to his suggestion of Dumbledore finding a new berry. No doubt that was the case. "Thank you for sharing with me." She muttered quietly after a pause, turning pink again as she did so and sending her back to memories of being an awkward little girl who didn't quite know how to handle herself around company. "We should do this more often." She added before falling silent to let him speak.
Emme watched with regret filled eyes as he Benjy emptied the rest of the platter into the nearby waste basket, almost disbelieving that her words could make him do that. She hated doing that - saying something that could be a compliment only to have it turn out to be more of an insult. She hated it because she could never get things right. Looking up at the Benjy now, she noticed that he might have been smiling, but he was also blushing and that meant that she had struck a nerve and that hurt. She never wanted to harm Benjy in anyway and always tried her hardest to avoid conflict with him. Even if that wasn't possible, she had always been willing to take more of the blame, and hurt to lessen anything that fell on him. She would never tell him that but she would always go to the ends of the universe just to make him happy.
Trying not to frown in self-disappointment, Emme nodded and seeing him move to go, stood herself, brushing crumbs from her lap as she did so. Busying herself to keep from looking at him just yet, she set her own mug on the counter he had just left and witnessed it being whisked away almost immediately. Biting down on her lip, she turned to him now with a small smile on her lips though as she looked up to meet his eyes again that turned into a full grin that lit up her features. "I suppose you're right…I'll, I'll see you tomorrow then?" She asked, almost hesitantly; unsure of how to say goodnight now that circumstances had changed.

Benjy briefly wondered if it was sad that he was feeling like this for the first time after seventeen years of being alive. He pushed that aside quickly, as he was going at his own pace. That was the definition – or part of it- of a Hufflepuff. There was no need to be ashamed that he was getting his first girlfriend just now, or that he was feeling his first intense crush so late. Mostly, he was happy he’d waited long enough for just the right person to come around. If Emmeline was anything in Benjy’s eyes, it was perfection. That could have been a fatal flaw on his art, yet he couldn’t seem to care right now. He didn’t care much about anything besides the candlelight glinting off her hair, and the warm smile and soft voice she was sharing with him. The girl was an enigma, and Benjy knew just then that he’d have all the time he needed to figure her out.
There weren’t many situations, if any, that Benjy could remember that would cause the two of them to argue. They were so similar on most things that they agreed instinctively it seemed. Benjy nodded along with what Emme said a lot of the time, and was happy to have a friend who was so in sync with him. She was patient with Benjy too. He wondered how it must be to have such intelligence and have to wait around for her slightly dense friend to figure things out. Emmeline was many things to him. A best friend, a cheerleader, a tutor and now a girlfriend. They’d come full circle and at that very thought, he couldn’t help but beam. It was no use to try and hold in his exuberance around her, lest it explode when he was finally alone again.
The disappointment was tangible in the room, and Benjy felt it to. ‘Perhaps I could stay up a bit longer…’ he thought to himself idly. A yawn pushed up through his system and out of his mouth, and he knew he was talking himself into nonsense. “Yes, I’ll definitely see you tomorrow.” He paused. What to do now? The dynamic had changed considerably. Briefly, he thought about giving her a kiss. It was too hard to tell what the other person was thinking, even if it was Emmeline who he was incredibly close to. He reached a hand out, patted her on the shoulder and turned around. No doubt that could have been done better… he’d remedy it later. “Good night, Emmeline.” He said over his shoulder on the way out.
Finally he was pacing back to his common room alone. The walk was short, but it was extended just enough so he could begin planning where he was going to take Emme and what they were going to do. Sleep wouldn’t reach him that night, or for many to come. The Butterflies had other plans for him.
