december all over the isles the rain is getting colder, the highlands are buried under several feet of snow, and as if that wasn't bad enough... beware the wind! it's frigid and out to bite.
Glancing up to the large Clock Tower through his dormitory window, Gideon grimaced as he noticed the time. Midnight on a Tuesday night isn't necessarily the most ideal time to be sneaking out of the dorms, but that wasn't important. What was important was that he get to the Room of Requirement. Gideon's usual daily routine consisted of school, eating, school, eating, studying, sleeping. In that order. Every day. Unfortunately, today had been a bit chaotic, throwing off his pattern. For whatever reason that wasn't sitting particularly well with him and he found himself incapable of sleeping. Granted, it was only midnight, but for Gideon that was terribly late. He was promptly asleep at ten forty-five every night without fail. Again, humans are creatures of habit, and some habits die very hard.
This habit in question? Studying. And it was going down with a fight.
Yes, Gideon Prewett was sneaking out to go study. Of course this could easily be done in the confines of the Ravenclaw Tower, but he wasn't interested in that. He wouldn't be able to do things the way he wanted to down there. Being slightly anal retentive, Gideon did things a certain way. For instance, while eating, Gideon ate the meat first in it's entirety, then sides in order of favorites, and then the drink after all his food was done - never during the meal. There wasn't a reason for this, it was just what he had always done. The same was true with studying. Depending on the subject, Gideon would do different things. Tonight, which was Transfiguration night, called for a few things the Tower wouldn't be able to provide. For one, Gideon needed absolute concentration to have any transfiguration spell to work. This would not be possible in the common room where people would be coming and going, or watching him. Oh jesus, would that make him nervous. No, that just wouldn't work. Not only that, but he liked to have a large space to work on casting spells, the narrow build of Ravenclaw Tower made that impossible. It just seemed silly to even consider using that space.
This left him with one option. The Room of Requirement. Yes, technically that room wasn't supposed to exist and students weren't supposed to use it, but it was for the greater good. His growth as a wizard was at stake. And yes, it was wrong to take advantage of the power being a prefect gave him, but he could be doing so much worse, couldn't he? Gideon figured that should he get caught, any respectable teacher would understand his unquenchable thirst for knowledge and let him off with a warning. Hell, he may even get some house points for it. As he tucked his wand, books, and a few badly scribbled out notes about the spell he intended to practice in his bag, Gideon began to mentally prepare himself for what was next. Gideon had snuck out before, this wasn't completely new to him. When his brother, Fabian, was still in school, the two were known to cause a bit of a ruckus. Child's play in comparison to what those blokes in Gryffindor were capable of.. But for Ravenclaws, they were straight hooligans.
None of this was relevant at the moment, though. Gideon had to focus on this spy mission he was about to embark upon. At this point Gideon had finally made his way over to the door leading into the hallways of the castle from Ravenclaw Tower. Griping the knob, Gideon closed his eyes and walked out. Once the door was secure behind him, Gideon decided it was time to look. Wincing as he did so, Gideon was surprised to see the hallway completely deserted. Not a prefect patrolling in sight. A wave of new found confidence bathing over him, Gideon began a proud march towards the holy land, or.. The Room of Requirement.
The rest of Gideon's journey, however perilous it may have originally looked, was seemingly uneventful excluding one encounter with the horrific monster, Mrs. Norris. Upon slaying the beast, or shooing her away, Gideon was at the spot. Not the door. The spot.
"Well, bullocks."
Where was it? Didn't the door show up when you needed it to? Maybe he didn't have to study hard enough. Hoping that if maybe he began panicking or worrying that the door would show up, Gideon let his mind wander to all the things he had left to do for the week. Patrolling tomorrow night, and Thursday night, that horrible review of the practical uses of Mugwart for Slughorn, oh and he still had to write those letters home and to Fabian. Oh, Fabian. Oh, the wedding! Wasn't that soon? Gideon still needed new dress robes, and dress shoes, and Mom would probably prefer trimming his hair before the ceremony.. How much school would he be missing again? Oh god, he couldn't get behind in class!
'Clink'
Well, that sure did the trick. Bright blue eyes looking forward, Gideon saw a dark wooden door before him with a dull, brass handle just waiting for him to tug on. Smirking at his own clever method of getting the room, He hoisted his heavy bag higher up his shoulder, swung open the door, and stepped in. Time for business.
-apology for the shitty post. i'm beyond the concept of 'rusty'-
Although Albert had never been overly fond of doing rounds and giving out punishments, ever since the Easter holidays he'd liked them quite a bit more. First of all, they gave him a chance to be alone more without people questioning it. He spent most of his time in his dorm or the common room whenever he wasn't in class so it also gave him a chance to roam the halls a bit. He didn't used to feel the need to pace around the corridors like this but somehow it helped him calm down a bit. He was less likely to run into people at night and if he did, he was allowed- expected even, to be short with them.
Students weren't allowed out after hours and it was his job to make sure they didn't break the rules. In the past, he had not exactly been the best prefect. He still wasn't but he was taking his duties more seriously ever since just about everyone has been talking to him about the prospect of him being Head Boy next year. To be honest, he hadn't thought too much about the idea in the past but his siblings and his father all had been during their seventh years and they expected him to keep up the tradition. Albert was determined to work hard for it. He was sick of being the disappointment. Admittedly, none of his family had ever once said they were disappointed in him for not getting the same marks that his brother and sister did. But he couldn't help making the comparisons in his head so he was certain they had the same thoughts.
Albert was convinced he must be imagining things. Clearly he had spent far too long on rounds tonight and must have been too tired to begin with because he'd just checked this hallway and there was no one there. But then there was a noise and now there was a door that definitely hadn't been here before. Sure, Hogwarts was known to change on occasion but he'd never seen this particular wall pretend to be a door.
Going against his better judgment, Albert held his wand higher to scan the lit area for signs of any students. He paused a moment before walking over to the door and grasping the handle. "Nox." He muttered before tugging it open. He held onto his wand tightly, ever since his siblings and then Marley had been trying to help him learn to duel he was a lot more on edge. Fortunately he was also a lot quicker with his wand then he had been. Albert was certain that he'd always be better at the theoretical than actual magic but he was getting a lot better now. He'd rather not think about why if he could avoid it but it was almost constantly on his mind.
Of course, nothing was going to happen to him at school... he hoped. It was less likely than an attack on the rest of his family who were not currently under Dumbledore's protection at Hogwarts. He tried not to think about the prospect of a repeat of the events at the end of last year... There was no point in worrying about that now though. All he could do was be alert and practice his mediocre at best duelling skills.
"Oh, Gideon," Albert put his wand away when he recognized the other boy. He smiled slightly as he stepped into the room completely. He was relieved to see that it was someone who he got along with rather well, which was actually quite surprising since Frank Longbottom was pretty much the only other boy that Albert got along with at the school. "What are you doing here?" It finally occurred to him that his fellow prefect was not supposed to be on duty tonight. It should have been obvious to him since it was his night on rounds but he really was starting to think he was getting quite tired. "Though perhaps where is here would be a better question. I've never seen this room before."
Setting down his things, Gideon looked around, surveying the space the room had created for him. It was huge, first of all. The walls went on for miles. Literally. Perhaps he had stressed the need for an open space a bit too much? The was were bare, save for some tapestries pinned every few feet to give the room some kind of decor. There was no furniture within the room except for two desks and a bookshelf in his nearest left hand corner. Gideon figured this odd placement was to avoid any charms hitting the objects by mistake. Good thinking, room! Littering the floor was what seemed to be hundreds of feather pillows with lavender silk covers. Tempted by how comfy these looked, Gideon momentarily considered just taking a well deserved nap instead of studying at all. Then the whole paranoia of amounting to nothing in life settled in and the thought quickly vanished.
Removing his wand from within his robes, Gideon pointed the wand at one of the silk pillows and mumbled, "Wingardium Leviosa," The pillow quickly floated into the air and sustained itself there, ready to fulfill Gideon's beck and call. Smirking, he spun his wand around a bit, causing the pillow to follow in suit. Amused by this, Gideon continued on, adding five more floating pillows to his pillow regime. Terribly amused with himself, Gideon made the pillows form into a flying V structure and fly about the room, similar to that of geese. Laughing, Gideon continued to make them fly, increasing their speed and erratic patterns, but beginning to laugh a bit too much to control them perfectly. before being able to stop them, the pillows where heading straight for the entrance to the room, which seemed to be swinging open due to a blonde mass' entrance, Gideon couldn't really tell who due to a bout of the dizzys brought on by spinning around with the pillows too much..
"Oh, Merlin!" Gideon found himself unable to stop them soon enough to not hit the poor blonde.. thing and instead found himself flinching and covering his eyes. Hearing a 'Pop' from the pillows exploding, Gideon opened his eyes a crease, peering through his hands as if that would soften the blow.
The pillows hadn't hit him.
The pillows hadn't hit him? Oh, thank god. Exhaling an enormous sigh of relief, Gideon straightened his stance and began adjusting his robes, removing a loose feather from his shoulder. "S-sorry 'bout that," Gideon apologized bashfully. His blue eyes finally regaining focus looked on to the mass that had entered the room. While doing so, everything else about tonight came back to Gideon's mind. 'Oh, fuck.' Not only had Gideon almost killed someone with an army of pillows, but he was hiding in a secret, forbidden room after hours, and was a prefect. This was not going to be pretty.
Again looking up to the boy that entered the room, Gideon sighed again. Albert, thank Merlin. "Albert, m'boy!" Gideon was beyond relieved upon this discovery and found himself strolling towards the blonde boy, resting an arm around his shoulder and escorting him in, quickly closing the door behind them. "This room? Ah," Gideon nodded his head, pressing his wand against his lips. "This is the Room of Requirement! Terribly convenient little space, if you think about it. The room only appears when you need it to most, and it fashions itself to include whatever your reason for being inside might need." Shrugging, Gideon motioned to the room's inhabitants, feathers floating down around the two of them. "What am I doing here? Well, I couldn't sleep because I'd had a terrible day and just wanted to do some quiet studying. But the common room is not quite big enough for what I wanted to do, so I snuck down here to work a bit. I-I wasn't doing anything bad, honest!" Gideon was actually quite embarrassed. A prefect caught sneaking out by another prefect? Sounds absolutely ridiculous.
