So, there is a project in Paris, about recording on video the Pinback show.
I'm directing it for free (www.myspace.com/jeanflipe). I've got my team.
The issue is not certain, no video will be shown on the web wihout the permission of the Pinback crew, so perhaps you'll never watch nothing.

Here is what's new at Day -5 :

Video :
It will not be an HD video-live. Doesn't matter. The team will be composed of 6 or 7 cameramen, it depends on La Maroquinerie (we must have enough places to work, and the show seems to be sold out, so perhaps I'll have to reduce the team), + 2 cameras on tripod. Total : 8 or 9 cameras. Each cameraman comes with his own material (pro, semi-pro), for free. Major party of them worked for me on other projects, other are friends, one is unknown to me but use to do this job well). They'll be paid by me only with beers, or milk. Can anybody tell me how much time a pinback show usually runs ? Thanks.

Sound :
I failed in finding someone able to record the 19 tracks, it would cost me 500euros, and I'm not produced. The sound-engineer Kerry McDonald (he is the tour manager of Pinback too) will give me a stereo matrix mix, and I'll make it be mixed with the stereo-sound of a 'zoom' (property of Silvain Vanot).
Could be better. But still ok.

My most important problems are :
-the actual big strike in Fance wich paralyzes tubes and trains,
-the manner La Maroquinerie will treat us on monday (I called them, they are aware, I'll be tactful, and my team teemy, and I know a guy in).

I had the volition to record a sort of video-interview for this forum, with all the questions you wrote for them (topic 'Pinbackfreak Interview') ), but I have read somewhere that Rob and Crow don't like this sort of activity... so I cancelled.

That's all for the moment.

Yay!
Good luck for tonight.

Maybe I'm overextending myself here, but I have to ask: could we imagine a Forum Only Special Edition DVD?

I'd buy one.

Let's see how the material will gonna look like.
Then let's see what Rob 'n Zach think about the stuff.

THEN, who knows we're all able to look at it.

Of course I'd buy one anyhow!

I take the responsability to post these 4 pictures here. 4 pictures, it's not a big deal. But that's all ! ninja.gif
One of the musician of Pinback put my videotapes in his ass but images seem to be still ok.

Nice pics, looks promising, if a bit dark. That's what your comment means, right?

No, images seem to be ok. There are 8 cameras, near by all differents, so colors and contrasts are never really the same, but it was predicted and I can do something for this with post-prod. I made mistakes sometimes in my choices yesterday, but it was really a hard stuff to organize (sooo hard, and so uncomfortable, so so so frustrating and sometimes really displeasing (some completly unsynergistics 'fans', or a lightman who just treated me like a shit just before the beginning of the show, etc)) and it would (aurait pu) be so worse too.
I think some songs will rock more than others, depends of so many things wich are impossible to control during an event like this (the crowd, the light, the number of fans etc etc).
Actually I'm just starting to try to do something with one of the song in the beginning of the concert, to see what sort of video this show will give me. It's hard to tell how it will be to the end, if there is trully something creative to product.
The most important thing for me actually is the way the crew worked with me. That's stunning how much people you can put together without money, just because they have the same addiction (making live images). This sort of event, making a concert-video with so much people for free, especially in a town like Paris, where all is just about money, is a sort of exception, but it's possible, and it's reassuring.

Yeah, it is heartwarming to see that there are still people willing to do something when they know there will be no money in it. Kudos to you for making this happen. It was obviously a lot of work.

Any update on this Live Pinback Video? I hope it comes together, cause some nights i just have a few drinks and watch a live concert on my laptop (Muse, Radiohead, Mars Volta). It would be awesome to have one from Pinback.

Keep us updated,
David
