Hello fellow pinbackfreakers.

So I have a very serious dilemma here...

I have been looking forward to the show in Portland, OR (scheduled for next weds the 11th) for over a month now. Unfortunately, I am put in a tough spot with work that is forcing me to make a decision to either go out of town for work for next week to do some pretty sweet stuff, or opt out of that and stay in town to do some pretty crappy stuff.

Basically, I'm a street canvasser for an environmental NFP and there's a camping canvass 5 hours away in a pretty sweet town where we are basically guaranteed to do really well for the week (we get paid based on how well we do each week--aka how much money we raise). If I chose to stay behind, though, I would only have the option of some really crappy sites where I probably wouldn't do that well at all (but I would still get to see Pinback).

Everyone at work is trying to persuade me to skip Pinback and come on the trip, BUT I know that they just don't understand my love like you guys do wink.gif so I need some advice from some other serious Pinbackfreaks!

I probably know what you'll say... but it is a very tough decision bc my paycheck AND my sanity are at stake here!

I understand your situation, but you arent giving enough details. Have you seen Pinback before? How much extra cash will you be making? Being on the west coast makes it easy for you to go see pinback. unlike the midwest.

Basically it could add another 100-200$ to my paycheck.

I did get to see them last year when they were touring, but I've never heard them play offline p.k. live and all the set lists I've seen have them playing it this time around!

You're right about it probably being easier as I'm on the west coast, but I am all the way up north in Oregon and the week that I'd be gone for work is the only week they're playing in the NW.

Do you know if they have shows in their hometown of San Diego during the winter/spring when they're not touring? Maybe I could compromise and go check out one of those with the extra money!

Can't make the decision for you, I'm afraid.

I think seeing a band you really, really, really like live is fantastic. You never know when a band is going to stop. On the other hand, there's a good chance you'll have plenty opportunity in the following years.

In 2007 I noticed too late Slint was going to play in Amsterdam... (didn't even know Slint was active again that year) I really wanted to see them so I went to their show in London and it was more than great. The band seems to be dead again, so I'm really happy I saw them once. Seeing your favorite band play multiple times is nice, but I think the important thing is seeing them at least once and remember it well.

Good luck with the decision. wink.gif
I think either way you're a winner.

I went on the trip dry.gif

It was all good, but I wish that I were able to see Rob & Zach play Offline PK!

Hopefully, I'll be able to catch them later this year.

Does anyone know if/where Pinback plays some local shows in San Diego when they're not touring?

Keep an eye out at the Casbah, they play there occasionally. In fact, they are playing there on Monday even though it hasn't been advertised much. I think they play at the Del Mar fairgrounds every year too but i haven't been able to make it to one of those. A good resource is the local indie station's website FM 94/9. They have a concert calendar that will have any Pinback gigs around town.
