I was just wondering if anybody had any thoughts on the solo EP Zach came out with called System's Officer. I have never seen it mentioned before on the forum so I just wanted to get that out there and see what you guys all thought.
And lets face it until they go back out on tour in April we all desperately need something new to talk about... |

Systems Officer EP??
I love it, sure. The song called "Systems Officer" is just one of the greatest pinbackian song. Great melodies, bass, drums, sounds. A masterpiece. And the others are very good too. It's a bit more "naïve" in a way than Pinback's songs, in which Rob puts his irony, but it's maybe more touchy...(if I use the right word, I'm French, sorry) Here's a text I wrote about this Cd, on a french webside. Try to read it! Héhé http://www.xsilence.net/disque-1837.htm |

I would like to just give a shout out to all of the people in the world who learned English as a second language. THANK YOU!!!! You make the world so much friendlier for us lazy Americans who are to self absorbed to get off our lazy asses and learn to communicate with the rest of the world. The effort you all put forth is just a testament to your good character. I tried to learn Spanish and just couldn't even though I hear its like one of the easiest languages to learn (unlike English which from what I understand is actually really hard) Furthermore I believe in the end it will be that same laziness and arrogance that will kill the United States and give rise to a new (hopefully friendlier) super power that will learn from the mistakes of the previous one and prosper. Now back to our regularly scheduled thread.
Yah I agree I especially like the Song System's Officer and Forever this Cyanide... I enjoy the song Cyanide like I enjoy Pinback's Manchuria I'm not sure if that really has any significance they just somehow seem similar to me. Weird... O and to any American's that I offended I am American hell I live in the most American place in the world, Washington D.C. And posting an arguement won't make me change my views about our great nation. |

I like the songs I've heard.
I don't have the E.P. though. |

I heard the samples on the websight and they sound great. But the melody in the song 'HAEL' is ripped right from 'Grey Machine'. See if you agree...

Sorry, that's "website".
English is hard, and it's my native language. |

Wow so today my EP came in the mail and I got to hear the rest of the songs I hadn't heard yet (all two of them). In the song Desert /Sea the refrain is actually Another Desert, Another Sea. (for those of you non-Three Mile Pilot fans that is the name of an album) I like to think of that as a cute throw back to his M3P days rather then a lack of creativity. Even though Hael in the beginning does seem to have some similarities to Grey Machine it get different as it goes on. All and all I think every song on the EP is really great and I recommend you all go out and get it. I mean christ the thing only costs $5.99 sorry I don't know about the price in Euros.

It's 5,17 euros...
Yes i've noticed this, "Another desert another sea", and I'm just craving for the coming 3MP album, I'm a great fan of Black Heart Procession, for some years, as I've been for many years a Pinback fan, and one day I've discovered that 2 of my favorite bands were closely linked. That was a great joy, and some Three Mile Pilot songs just "flip me to the roof" (as Daniel Johnston says in a song), I mean "Glitter Wave" or "The house is Loss"... But I find "Forever this Cyanide" and "Manchuria" very different. There is a greater tension in "Manchuria", and a kind of carelessness in "Forever"... What I reproach to American bands is to miss France in their tours. Or only visiting Paris. France is not THAT big, but Paris is a bit far from where I live. Even though I will be there to see Black Heart in may. I cannot miss that once again! |

I wouldn't be surprised if it were this forum that I'd read it in. Or perhaps the Yahoo! mailing list for PB... I will look it up and post any links if I come across any.
It went something like this: "I talked to Zach after a show, and he said that he and (forgot the name) had been recording some stuff for SO..." The search is on... Edit: The search has finished! "hi everyone... i just wanted to let whoever is interested know that i recieved my first copies of systems officer - a solo band i recently started up that will be released by ace-fu records on april 5th. im perty excited as i've alway wanted to do something of this sort...i hate the title "solo" but that just goes as far as the writing process, im lucky enough to have a few individuals help me out by bringing this stuff to live performances later this year..the cd is a 5 song E.P. ...sort of an introduction of things to come ( full length album out early part of 2005) . there are a few samples at http://www.systemsofficer.com i will be bringing a few copies of the E.P with me on the upcoming pinback tour in april.. looking forward to seeing you all out there... thanks, -zach" Not exactly the post I'd previously read, but a similar one. Also, did anybody know SO actually played live shows? Damn whoever didn't record them! |

Thanx heavy vegetable for looking up,
from when was this post? I know you mentioned it's not the one you meant, but still. I think it's a while ago, since the e.p. is out quite a long time... Or what's up with this? No recordings seen anywhere...sorry. |

STOP MAKING ME DO MORE WORK!
Ha, just kidding. The more info i give, the more info i recieve. But the post was a while back...wouldn't be surprised if it was early 2005/late 2004. I think the next time anybody sees Pinback, they should check up on it. Hopefully I will see Pinback at Del Mar racetrack Aug. 11, and maybe I can meet up with him and ask. But I do think Zach will come out with another edition to the Systems Officer music. |

Oh when I talked to Zach he said that Kenseth and him had been writing/recording stuff for Systems Officer.
I'm pretty sure he said it was Kenseth and I can't remember if he said writing or recording. But I remember the gist of the conversation. |
