It was that late hour when everything was meant to be still and sleeping; the sky was pitch black outside except for a pale layer of let shed by the cloud-covered moon. The old castle that housed the most well-known institution of magical education was eerily silent, except for the creaking of the ancient foundation and the scurrying of rats - she hoped that’s what they were - across the floor some distance away. Odd shadows flickered and disappeared across the walls only to reappear elsewhere, shadows that didn’t look like anything normally seen, even in the wizarding world. The castle wasn’t exactly serenely quiet place at night, in fact it was pretty creepy, particularly in the dungeons.
All of that was easily enough to keep most students from wandering those hallowed halls at night, but not Miss Juliette. If you were going to a famous reported some day, you couldn’t let things like a little creaking and darkness stop you, at least that’s what she thought. And ever since she had first come to Hogwarts, she had been convinced there was a story in the school’s dungeons. Surely there was more lurking in that old, dark basement than a dorm and a -rather disgusting smelling- potions classroom.
Speaking of potions, that was the classroom that she had just passed - meaning she was now going further into the “heart” of the dungeons than she had before. Which may have seemed very strange, considering her insatiable curiosity, but there were so many people around Hogwarts to talk to - and people were extremely interesting - that exploring the building itself had been a much lower prior priority. Until tonight.
Jules froze where she was against the wall, holding her breath and waiting. She had heard something coming down the hallway that she was convinced was more than just her overactive imagination. These were the times when an invisibility cloak would be quite useful. She stood there silently, wondering who else was down there and wandering around so late at night. Now what?
