The Phoenix Returns is an intermediate-advanced level forum roleplay based on the Harry Potter series. We are currently accepting canon and original students and adults.

The future is here, and it's not quite as bright as the wizarding world may have hoped. A terrifying series of incidents paired with rumors about a mass Azkaban breakout have the entire community in chaos. The Ministry's response? Blame the muggle-borns and half-bloods, and put tighter restrictions on all aspects of life in wizarding London. Meanwhile, those Azkaban prisoners are still out there lurking in the shadows. Of course, so are the members of the Order of the Phoenix, once again re-established, this time under the leadership of none other than the infamous Harry Potter.

This roleplay is set post-"Deathly Hallows," in the year 2021.

Basic Information
Full name: Alice Virginia Longbottom
Nicknames: Mainly just Alice. Sometimes Ally, Al, Gin, Gina, ect.
Age: Fourteen.
Gender: Female
Birthdate: 20th November.
Bloodline: Pureblood
House: Gryffindor

Appearance
Height: 5’3”
Weight/Body Type: 115lbs/Slim.
Hair: Blond/Brown
Eyes: Brown
General Description:
Alice Longbottom is really above average in the looks department, although she isn’t exactly godlike, to be all that honest. Her features are halfway between womanhood, and childlike, but still manage to give off a somewhat good appearance. Her hair is quite long, going past her shoulders and down her back, and is a lovely dark blond/light brown colour. Her hair has always been naturally slightly curled, or wavy, and left down, though sometimes it’s straightened, or up in a bun, or tied back. Now seriously; you will never see Alice with hair which doesn’t reach her shoulders, and that is the shortest she will go. She loves her locks to the point where she will never cut them off – never. They’re too valuable to her.

Moving on; Alice has lovely dark brown eyes – almond shaped. She loves her eyes, because they usually give off a warm, kind look, and although that clashes with her over dramatic, teasing self, it shows she does have a calm side, though it’s rarely shown. Alice’s skin is quite pale most of the time, and it means that light clothes just don’t do well for her. Her cheeks are only very slightly rosier than the rest of her body most of the time, but there isn’t really much difference. Her lips two are also pale, and quite thin, most that is barely noticed. Alice almost always has a smile on her face, because lets face it; you can’t act with a straight face all the time. You need to be happy, sad, terrified – there’s so many emotions to choose from.

Clothes? Alice has a love for anything really; tshirts, jeans, skirts, dresses, the whole lot. She prefers bright or sometimes dark colours to light ones though, and rarely wears makeup. She prefers jewellery, though she isn’t completely obsessed with that either. She doesn’t aim to please anybody with her looks, but she does dress up a little if she’s going somewhere fancy.

The Magic
Wand Length/Wood/Core: 7 inches, maplewood, phoenix feather.
Broom: nimbus 2012 (though she isn’t part of the team; it’s just something to practise with in the holidays).
Boggart: Herself, crazy like her grandparents.
Patronus: Shetland Pony
Amortentia: Lemon sweets, Apple crumble, Oranges

General Description:
Getting to know Alice is like getting to know a fire breathing dragon, and to die trying. Honestly, you might think you know her, but then she’ll do something completely unexpected, and you’ll have to start figuring her out again. She is the type of girl who will do something totally random just to fool you, or just for the sake of it. To be honest, there’s only one person who knows her completely, and that’s her twin brother Frank. No seriously. Not even her parents can say they understand their daughter onehundred percent. But being her twin, Frank knows her inside out. Alice has a theory that twins have special bonds, and that’s why Frank has her all figured out.

Alice is the most dramatic person you will ever come across. EVER. This should be obvious by now; she loves acting, she loves people thinking she’s serious about something when really she’s just pretending. Her life is basically a whole game of lets pretend. She has fun fooling people, making them think she’s done something, or she is/has become someone. She can be overly dramatic sometimes, and there are points when Frank has to tell her to turn it down a notch, but most of the time her acting’s perfect. Oh, Alice knows how to have fun, believe me.

Something which Alice is though, is a big time worrier. She worries, and stresses over a lot of things, the biggest so far being the fact that she doesn’t want to follow her grandparents footsteps or turning crazy. If someone’s life is in danger then sure she’d do it, she’d take her life, her sanity, for that particular person, if they’re truly worth it, but she still hates the thought of being in mungos from adulthood onwards, not being able to recognize anyone; not even her own family. She does want a chance to be an auror, but not if it’s going to cause problems like that. Another thing which Alice wants to do when she grows up, is act. She wants to become an actress, even if she has to pretend to be a muggle to do it, and nothing will stop in her way. She’s completely determined to be famous, for hers and her parents sake. She wants her parents to be proud of her, and she’d do anything to achieve that. As in, really proud of her; not the normal ‘we’re glad you get good grades and are a good kid’ sort of proud. The type that can’t be congratulated with one or two pats on the back. Yeah… that big.

Background/History
Father/Occupation: Neville Longbottom/Herbology professor at Hogwarts (formerly an auror).
Mother/Occupation: Hannah Abbott – landlady of the leaky cauldron.
Hometown: London. More specifically, diagon alley.
Siblings: Frank Longbottom – twin brother.
Pets: An English cocker spaniel by the name of Sparky. Lives at the leaky cauldron when Alice is at school. Mainly hers than Frank’s.
General History:
Alice Virginia Longbottom was born to Neville and Hannah Longbottom (nee abbott), at the leaky cauldron, and was soon joined by her brother, who they named Frank, barely ten minutes later. Ironically enough, Alice’s grandparents on her father’s side had the same names as her and her brother, which caused some confusion, not to mention lack of originality in the household. Alice grew up a lot of her life thinking that since she was named after someone, she had to grow up not being too much of a disappointment when her parents’ would one day realize that she couldn’t fulfil their standards. That she couldn’t be as good as Neville’s parents, who risked their sanity to protect their child, and make the world a better place to live in. But of course, her parents didn’t have any standards for her, so long as she behaved and did well. They wouldn’t mind if she was a squib, or a wizard, or a witch, or even some rare breed of both, if that was possible, which she guessed really wasn’t.

Growing up, Alice was used to a lot of strange people being around her, warlocks, dwarfs, the whole lot. Her mother ran a pub below their house for goodness sake – that would attract a lot of folk. Especially in the summer, when parents would come with their children for Hogwarts equipment. During this time, her father was an auror, and he wasn’t often at home with Alice, Frank, and his wife, to look after them, or sort things out if someone shady came in the pub, though that was a rarity. And Hannah could handle it anyway. But when Alice was nine, Neville gave up being an auror, and took a job a little closer to home – Hogwarts Herbology professor. Alice was pretty excited when he was hired; she had always been interested in plants and the sort. It was pretty cool really. Sometimes during the holidays when Hogwarts was empty, or close to empty, her father would let her come and explore the castle. It was a pretty good sign when he found she could see the castle, instead of a bunch of old ruins saying how dangerous it was and the sort. It meant dear Alice was indeed a witch after all.

His predictions were correct, when Alice received a letter for her eleventh birthday, requesting that she join Hogwarts. Of course, her parents accepted this, and along with some other kids her age, most notably the odd Potter, Weasley, and Scamander, whom both of Alice’s parents had gotten on well with their parents at school, she went to diagon alley to ‘shop till she dropped’; that being in the literal sense. Alice and Frank had both shopped so much, that by the time they had set foot in the leaky cauldron again, Alice had dropped onto the nearest chair in sight, and fallen asleep. That was also the day in which Alice bought Sparky; the spaniel. She knew she wasn’t allowed to bring it to Hogwarts with her, but she just loved the look it gave her from the pet shop, as though saying ‘buy me’, and she just needed to obey its request.

When Alice got to Hogwarts, she was sorted into Gryffindor, although the hat made it clear that she could have been a potential Hufflepuff. It was her choice though, at the end of the day. She made friends easily, and wasn’t even afraid to do so with a few of the nicer Slytherins, though it was mainly the other houses which she socialized with. Most people would be slightly bugged that their parents taught at their school – perhaps even embarrassed. Alice wasn’t like that. She loved the advantages that gave her. For example, she was often allowed to tease her dad during classes, in ways which she wouldn’t be allowed with other teachers, plus she could easily get permission from him to walk the corridors at night, if she had a good enough reason, or go into the restricted section of the library, and sometimes even into the forbidden forest, though she needed her father to be with her for that, unless she was just going around the edge. Though it didn’t help her at all with her grades; she didn’t need the help anyway, not with herbology.

And now, Alice is in her forth year of Hogwarts. The school’s been so far easy. But with the escaped Azkaban prisoners on the loose, will her destiny come to be that of her grandparents? Her greatest fear… and her worst nightmare.
