I noticed on the Frontier Drum and Bugle Corps Forums (our sister organization); that they have found a group unloading its bugles (probably changing from G bugles to Bb bugles).

So, if you are interested in purchasing a Bugle (soprano, mello, baritone, or contra) for yourself, please contact Chris Green at director@frontiercorps.org.

The prices on the bugles are pretty good. And I'd rather suggest picking up a G bugle for yourself if possible. As you may have noticed during the Open House I had a B-flat tuba and a GG Contra. Having one of each can be cumbersome (especially as a low brass) but it allows for the ability to move back and forth much easier based on the group you're with.

Be glad you're not thinking about a contra...

The 2006 price for one of those puppies is $7,235. Lord only knows what the 2007 price is gonna be.

Dan,

That is the 2007 price for the Contra Grande. The link from the instrument page says 2006 price list, but when it opens up it has 2007 at the top (which I didn't pay attention to). The sop prices were different, that's how I knew they had updated it.

Hmmm...one contra or an entire soprano section? smile.gif

2 Valve American Heritage Powerbore Soprano Bugle (made by Benge when Zig Kanstul ran the plant...so essentially, it's a 2 valve Kanstul). The bugle is in great shape and plays well. It needs one joint soldered to prevent air loss that would eventually occur. The owner is selling it for $250. If you are interested, contact me and I will give you the seller's information.

Either way... It sucks to be me when it comes to buying a horn.

Even my current contra (at least used by two different groups) is an older DEG Dynasty three valve horn that was going to cost $1000, but since Jamie bought all four that the Madison Scouts Alumni were selling it came out to $750 a piece. Big Dog actually played one of the horns that was in the batch that we got, so we know they spent at least part of their time with the Blue Stars. And he was at least the second person from Blue Stars to use that horn. So, they've been well used. Sops have it easy.

True, it gets a little worse for trumpets, though. I'm getting ready to plonk down over half of what your contra would cost for a new trumpet. Of course, your new Mirafone tuba will cost more than that, too. I can't win!!

I bought the three valve for $500 simply because these sopranos go too fast. If any of the members of the hornline want to purchase this one, I will sell it for what I paid for it and then I'll order a new one. Just putting the offer out there...$300 savings off of a new one. Maybe we can get some feedback here from the soprano players. Those two on ebay are gone...did any of our players get either of them? Because now there is the two valve horn for sale in McComb and this three valve...we need to consider if we are going to be able to do this to save everyone the trouble of transporting all of those G horns here if we aren't going to be able to use them.

Bueller? Anyone??

Good News!! There are two more Kanstul Sopranos out there. I have put in a request for info. The owner just mentioned them being for sale about an hour on Drum Corps Planet, so hopefully my request will get in there early.

If we have soprano players that are interested in these horns, PLEASE contact me. I understand we have college students in the line. If any of you are interested in one of these horns I can purchase it and you can buy it from me over the course of our season (interest free, even!). However, if this is the case, I need to know!

I definitely want to get a new horn. I just need to get my taxes settled and figure out how much I can spend. I'll probably know more by the next time we meet. Hopefully sooner...............

Cool beans!

The Kanstul Powerbore soprano from Nashville arrived today and is in excellent condition. The two sopranos I mentioned above are at the repair shop having small dents removed, and one is having a leadpipe resoldered. I'll be getting pictures of those soon...those are both Kanstul Powerbores, too.

It would be great to be able to play through Ain't Misbehavin' on bugles next time! It would also be great to get these mysterious people who have been registering to come out and play, too!

See you in a couple of weeks.

"Well you can expect to get a call at 7:00 on Monday then!!!"

Two Valve DEG Baritone Bugle

Here's a baritone in good condition on eBay if anyone might want to purchase one for not a lot of money. It would allow for us to expand the hornline should more baritone players show up.
