Uh... my stuff. Mostly quick sketches, much of it several months old at the youngest, quite a few having nothing whatsoever to do with Pokémon, all pulled randomly from my ImageShack and my dA five at a time. There y'go. (They're signed "Phoenix" because that's the name I usually go by--Phoenixsong.)

The Luxray King

This one's actually new. I've been listening to a lot of Disney music lately, and as such was inspired to draw a Luxray Lion King-style. I am aware that the proportions are slightly off, but I spent such a long time on certain aspects that by the time I realized it I wasn't in the mood to redo it. By the way, he's not supposed to be anyone specific; he's just some random Luxray who feels like sitting there and glaring at you. I think you must have done something wrong; maybe you should apologize. Yes.

i liek paintz

Randomly felt like drawing a Mew making a mess with paint. One of these days, in my little fantasy world, I'm going to color it and make it into a cute banner. In real life, I'm too lazy. Oh, well. It's adorable anyway, wouldn't you agree?

Wyvern

Someone requested this on another forum I belong to. Turned out nicely, IMHO.

Vulpix

This sketch was actually done in regular, boring gray mechanical pencil, as is most of my stuff; when I scanned it, I tinted it using the preview program. The tails are curling the wrong way because I didn't have a reference when I drew it.

Muttnik

Just one of my hundreds upon hundreds of fake Pokémon, the Psychic-type Orbit Pokémon Muttnik. Just a few concept sketches, attempted in a Sugimori-esque style.

I'm done.

Kratos is moving to college, yo. Like, tomorrow (Thursday the 16th). That means a long car ride from Georgia to upstate New York (16 goddamn hours), a night in some hotel or something, and then an entire week of moving in, figuring out classes and doing crazy orientation/freshman stuff. AND THEN COLLEGE CLASSES. Yeah.

So, basically, I'm probably not gonna be around fer a little while. I might be able to sneak on every once in a while, but I dunno when or how long. So, don't expect to see altogether too much of me until I really settle in. Adieu.

Damn, you're really good.

The Luxray King - Lol, I love that noble face. x3 This is really spot-on, although just to criticize on something, it wouldn't hurt to make the back a little more curved downward on the waist area, and then make it curve up on the hips, so it flows with the spine. Not really needed and won't make much of a difference, but it would definitely look better and more graceful.

i liek paintz - Cute, I like the expression. It needs some shoulders protruding from its back, though, when it's applying a lot of weight on the front leg. The stomach could be a little thinner (not really necessary though) and the heel of the foot sticks out a bit too much.

Wyvern - Nice! Dragons come in all shapes, sizes, and proportions so there isn't really much to crit here. Nice job on the spines on its neck and back.

Vulpix - Love the shading. <3 But if you're going for a more realistic look (which it looks like you're doing) then I would suggest you give it four toes instead of three. Or maybe I just can't stand the one missing toe fad on canines/felines thing. >_<;; So yeah, that's more of a personal opinion; it's okay with all its toes or not. smile.gif And the claws are supposed to be lower on the paws, so they touch the ground. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to climb trees! I'm referring to cats here (it's in a cat-ish position), though, but I think it's the same with foxes... I think...

Muttnik - This looks like a doodle, so I wouldn't be too critical on it, but the muzzle is off center if you look at the amount of face on the far side of the head. But really, the far side of the head is huge big pain to get right and it's really hard for me, too. >_<;;

Really, though, you're drawings aren't as bad as I'm making them sound like! biggrin.gif They're really good and you're going on the right track and I really do look forward to seeing more from you! ^_~

Okay, now I'm done.

Well done!

No, no, Silverwing, you're not making them sound bad, it's exactly the kind of constructive criticism I'm looking for. Thank you! I shall respond to each individually:

Luxray: Yeah, the curve of the spine (really, the entire body after the head/mane/forelegs o.O) was what I was talking about when I said I knew it was off. As I said, though, I was too sick of just sketching it at that point to care. Duly noted for the next time I attempt such a pose, though.

Mew: Hm... it does have a shoulder; that's what the paint is leaning on. I was going to make it more evident with the shading when I colored it. It's a bit hard for me to look at the pics and see what you're talking about, as I'm not posting any of this on my own computer and this monitor has a ridiculously wide screen resolution that stretches everything, but eh. I dunno about the stomach, but I did happen to see what you mean about the heel.

Wyvern: Thanks!

Vulpix: Nah, I wasn't quite going for realistic... I mean, c'mon, check out that crazy mohawk it's got! When I am trying to be really serious and realistic, I do draw the right number of toes; however, I can be kind of indiscriminate otherwise. This one just ended up with three, I guess. *shrug* Good point about the claws. They are too high up, aren't they? Noted.

Muttnik: I'm afraid I can't see what you're talking about on this stretched screen, so all I can say is it was just a concept sketch. I can try to keep the muzzle straight on the finished drawings, though.

@Ninja Kitten: Thanks! Yeah, I worked hard on the Luxray's shading... shading with black colored pencil is EVIL. Egh. It turned out all right, though.

Right. More stuff. Ahem.

Uh...

Another concept sketch, this one a base for Muttnik's evolutions. I say "evolutions" in plural as it has a split evolution path and I'm not entirely sure which one of the two this is. They were both going to look fairly similar, at any rate... eh. Either Solaika or Lunaika, no idea which.

Ragan Dromin

A character from a book/fanfic/various things that will most likely never be written. Such is often the case with me, sadly. Anyway, she's some sort of evolved raptor-dinosaur-thing. (Hence why she's flat-chested; she's not a mammal, so she doesn't need that sort of equipment, now does she?) That knife-thing is representative of the raptor sickle claw of her ancestors or whatever. I've only recently noticed that her pelvis looks awfully narrow, but other than that this is the best that my humanoids get.

Umbreon

Five-minute pen sketch of Umbreon, tinted blue in the preview program. Not much else to say.

Extremespeed

Uh... Arcanine. Running... really fast. And at an angle, because I decided I wanted to experiment with that. It looks kinda weird because it was also done without a reference. Tinted sepia.

Kaji the Lord of Dragonfire

Late last year, the Yu-Gi-Oh! people held a "design a card" contest that I entered; this was my entry. Didn't win, sadly. Not that I mean to sound too full of myself or anything, but I think that part of the reason I didn't win was because there is no background. Which would be a stupid reason not to win, seeing as almost every YGO card's image is a render plastered on some random psychedelic, trippy-lookng background. I GAVE them a render. C'mon! Besides, the space we had to draw in was nowhere close to the same shape as the illustration space on the card; if I had done a background, it would've had to be mutilated to fit. I wish I could see the three entries that did win, just to see how on earth they got themselves out of that clever little faux pas.

...Okay, so I sounded full of myself. I was damn proud of that picture, okay?! Especially when I won another contest I entered around the same time with a picture that was far worse than this one. (Which I shall show you on the next update.) It's not fair ;_;

damn! those are really good! I must say, I have NEVER seen someone draw pokemon like you (sorry mah friends. =p) I love how you add your own style and everything. Being I'm a vulpix freak, I love your drawing of it and I could barely tell that you messed it up.

That Arcanine is hawt. <3 Love the angle. Yeah, I'm too lazy to write up another huge review. xD But you should whip out them colored pencils and pens and start inking and coloring some of your sketches, to bring them out more.

Eh. Most people who see the Arcanine are far more enamored with it than I am... whatever. Thanks. Sadly, though, I'm too busy/lazy to ink and color a lot of my stuff these days. If inspiration strikes, I'll do it, but otherwise... nah. Besides, I like mah sketchies. Yes, it does look good to "bring them out", as you say, but there's just something awesome about sketchy and messy that I can't get enough of.

It has no body... o.O

I was bored a few years ago, so I sketched this 'un. The end.

NONE of them have bodies! D:

Lots of heddz. Yay.

Umbrella in the Rain

Around the same time as that YGO contest, Nintendo and this random photo site I'd never heard of held a Mystery Dungeon contest. The charge: draw what you think it'd be like if you became a Pokémon. I didn't have PMD at the time, so I just kinda read the suggestions they made in the rules and ad libbed. (For example, I didn't know that you couldn't have Eevee as a partner... grrr.) So I made this. It's terrible, really. I drew the pictures on paper and then traced them with my not-so-very-good tablet (bad idea) and then attempted to CG color them in Photoshop (even worse idea, especially considering how little I knew about PS7 and CGing in general). It wasn't all that wise of me to experiment with a new art form while entering a contest... but I entered it anyway. Time passed, I figured I hadn't won (and wasn't all that surprised/disappointed), and I went and bought Dungeon Blue for myself to play on my old DS. Wouldn't you know it, a few weeks later I get an email telling me that I was one of the eleven winners and they're going to ship me PMD, the guidebook AND a DS Lite. I didn't need any of them at that point, but what the heck? It's FREE! So, yeah. The art really wasn't that great--several entries were superior to mine (and most of them didn't win anything... o.O)--but I suppose the sweet sentiment was what won 'em over. Works for me, I got free stuff :3

No I don't know where the Eevee got an umbrella.

Rawr

Boredom during a school trip + free time + a reference picture (NO, before anyone's brain explodes or anything, I did NOT draw this from memory or make it up) = rawr.

You toucha my stuff, I breaka your face

Not much to say, other than I'm sorry that the quality's so bad. This is on my list of pics that need to be rescanned properly; the problem is, unlike some of my others, I can't find the original. Oh, well. This'll do for now.

i agree with silverwing. The angle on the arcanine is pretty bad ass.

And i LOVE the shading on the lion. Its very realistic. Id smooth out the mane abit though, just with my finger or a H6 pencil.

You are really good though... hold are you?

If you havent already, you should get photoshop and colour some of those on the computer wink.gif

I'm eighteen.

Heh... Photoshop... trust me, I've tried. And I am learning. But all of my PS stuff ends up looking almost as bad as that "Umbrella in the Rain" pic. I want to learn, but I'm a traditional artist at heart; when I'm actually not-lazy enough to color, I'd rather do it by hand. The Ninetales render down there in my sig is one of the few CG'd pics I've done that there's actually very little wrong with. The rest... have issues... X|

If you ever want to start digital art, I suggest using an oekaki first, since it's simple and has all the necessities -- it has a really nice oily brush tool, as well as an easy-to-use curve tool, and other nifty tools.

...But I *have* started. I'm just not good at it.

As for oekakis, ah, I'm afraid it's a bit late for that. I'm already used to Photoshop, mostly from my experimentations with banners and stuff. Oekakis... eh... they just seem too "messy", if you know what I mean. I know what the PS tools are and how to use them... in theory. It's just in practice that I have trouble, and improving on that aspect can more or less be done just as easily in PS as in an oekaki. Eh. (Oh, and oekaki work with hand-drawn lineart... yeah. I can't make that work. Photoshop is really just simpler in the end.)

Uh. Yes. Anyhow, I come bearing gifts! Not really... uh... suuuuure...

Orange

On a school trip late last year, I was bored and asked some friends to name a color. "Orange" was their response, so I sketched a dragon that, uh, I dunno, seems "orange" to me. I guess I can see it being orange, or it personifies orange or... I dunno, some pretentious crap like that. Note the lack of any actual orange--or any other color--in the picture. Heh.

Yellow

Same premise as the above, only more recent and better-looking.

Shuckle

A request. A simple one, at that. Nothing else to say.

Eclipse

Profile headsketch of Eclipse, a summon in Golden Sun: The Lost Age. Awesome game, by the way. Then again, it can't have Eclipse in it and NOT be awesome, so I guess that goes without saying.

Caedraptor

A fake Pokémon I made up for some contest or something. Those are green feathers, not leaves or something. Yeah. An example of my CG stuff, albeit a touch old. This is before I could properly clean up my hand-drawn stuff to color in Photoshop. I think it was before I had Photoshop... hell, it's probably from before I had my own scanner. I dunno. So, anyway, because I can't draw freehand with a tablet, I drew this with pencil, traced it with the tablet and colored it in some crap Painter wannabe program that came bundled with it. Okay, it's not crap, but it hasn't got layers or any of that sexy stuff.

It makes me very happy to see that your actually feel confident in your art to open up a thread for it. Honestly, I draw like CRAP. Really. If I tried to draw a Geodude, it would look something like this Yahoo! image.

Uh... thank... you?

Um. More stuff. Nothing "new", but there might be some stuff in a few days. Depends on whether or not I can fix my scanner situation. Damn you, Vista, and your total lack of compatibility with, like, everything.

Torrindael

Yay more characters from stories that Kratos will never ever write! It may not be easy to tell based on that picture, but Torrin here is a Clefairy. Yes, I know, he looks like a fox with wings (that are much larger than those of a Clefairy). The wings are that size because I wanted Torrin to be able to fly properly, if only at very low heights and for short periods of time; fluttering, more like, really. Which is what fairies do, yes? And I wanted them to be large enough to be noticeable and technically still support his weight, which normal dinky Clefairy wings should not be able to do. They're nowhere near as large as they could have been, trust me. (Also, I know Clefairy has more butterfly-ish wings while Clefable's look a bit more like these. I didn't have a reference when I drew it, okay?! This looks more manly anyhow.) As for the very un-Clefairy-ish tail... well, I thought he'd look pretty silly with a giant pink cinnamon roll stuck to his pants, really. I figured, then, that maybe the tail isn't naturally curly (at least not as far as these anthro ones are concerned); maybe it's just Clefairy/fable traditional fashion or whatever to curl it. Torrin, however, agrees with me and thinks it looks ridiculous, so he leaves it uncurled. Such a rebel, that boy. (Oh, yeah, and I know he looks kinda off-balance; one of his legs is too long and he's kinda leaning. Humanoids are hard to draw, okay?!)

Lord Generic

Messy, unfinished sketch that I'm only posting to get an opinion about. Lord Generic here is a character-thing for a website I've got in the works; it's really lame and I shouldn't be having ridiculous ideas like this at the age of eighteen, but the characters are supposed to be a bunch of Pokémon superheroes and supervillains that represent all of the good and bad habits of Pokémon webmasters or something like that. The large number of generic, copycat kinda sites that have been springing up are beginning to irritate me, and so I'm making this site to maybe do something about it. That in and of itself is a nice idea if I do say so myself, but the characters are really lame... eh. I'm beyond the point of caring about that. Anyway, I just wanted suggestions for Lord Generic's costume; he's the leader or something of the supervillains and represents all bland, news-stolen-from-Serebii, amateurish websites. And he needs boring, generic supervillain colors. Someone else has suggested gray, but I wanted to know if you guys had any other ideas. (I might also make him a vampire instead, but for now I'm going with the undies-on-the-outside design.)

Ninetales Wally Paper

Wallpaper I made in PS7, graced by that CG Ninetales I mentioned and a brush I didn't make so yeah. 1024x800, if you want to use it. 'Cause, like, you can. That's why I made it. For other people. Okay. That's enough.

Arcy Wally Paper

Arcanine wallpaper, 800x600, made in PS7. NO, I did NOT draw the Arcanine, and if you didn't know that then Ken Sugimori would like to have a word with you. Use it if ye want. (I'd appreciate it if you didn't redistribute my stuff on other websites, though... they can just come to my site and take it from there, thanks. Yes, that IS my site these are displayed on.) Just something I threw together; it's the first wallpaper I've ever made, so it was all just experimentation. I guess it's supposed to be in a... burning garden or something? I dunno. It looks kinda chaotic and pretty, though. No-text version here, if the giant "Arcanine" scrawled across the top bugs you.

Go, Gryphons

Something I was asked to do for my old middle school, whose basketball team is called "The Gryphons". Yeah. Interestingly, what this picture was apparently needed for had absolutely nothing to do with sports. It was an accreditation thing or something. Also I'm sad because they didn't ask me to draw the new mascot-logo-whatever-thing for the new jerseys. Bah. [/notconceitedatall]

Wow.

Torrindael- His right arm... I dunno, it's kinda stiff or something, it's off in some way but I'm not sure.

Lord Generic- The tail... the back sprite of a Pikachu looks like this. user posted image So the tail should be zigzagging more, right? As for the colors, I'm not sure, but maybe Pikachu-themed or something, 'cause he is a Pikachu-human thing. So yeah.

The Wally Papers- Ninetales- I can't really find anything wrong, good work! Arcanine- The Arcanine seems kinda blurry; was it supposed to be like that? There's not much else wrong, I don't think.

Go, Gryphons- The right wing looks kinda... stiff. Again. I dunno, but the head seems kind of small. Other than that, it's awesome. I love griffins. Or Gryphons, however you spell them.

Other than that, they look great, I couldn't draw any better anyway. Keep up the good work!

I won't go through them one by one but I'll tell you in general what I think: overal they're great but when you look in detail there are some issues, Silverwing has mentioned them all I think. Your dragon heads are simply awesome, your posings are very well picked... oh and "the Umbrella in the rain" link is broken.

And, "Son of a toaster", that pile of shit was unnecessary, really -.-
