welcome (back) to harrow prep
we're happy to have you
    before reading the rules.
Yeah, that's right, pre-rules. Don't worry, I'll make this short and sweet. You do not have to use a past Harrow character, whether you were on the site or not. Anyone can make up an original character. Hell, I did. I was Rachel Alexis Wilson on the past Harrow, and now I'm Phoenix Williams. I'm living, breathing proof that you don't have to stick with past characters. The option is always open, though.

    no godmodding/powerplaying.
Yes, we've all heard this before, I'm certain. For those who haven't, - and those who need a refresher - godmodding/powerplaying is taking control of something - a character, in this case - that is not yours. When you are posting and/or replying to a topic, do not have someone elses character say something in your post. I know, I know, it's hard to not make another character say something when there's a perfect line to go along with what you just said, but give them a chance to type; maybe they are thinking of the line you thought of, or possibly something better.. What helps me in those situations is thinking of the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do to you. Be honest, would you really want someone to take control of your character? I didn't think so.

    grammar and punctuation usage.
You know what really bothers people? When they can't understand something they're reading because of missing commas, periods, and/or spelling mistakes. Sometimes, when you don't use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation, people process the words in another way. Why? Because they try to figure out where the missing periods, commas, and capitalizations go. Wouldn't it be annoying if you found someone in a topic typing like that? How would you respond?

    EXAMPLE:
wrong: wile waking in the park jenna saw a leaf the color of a apple she picked it up
correct: While walking in the park, Jenna saw a leaf the color of an apple. She picked it up.

See the difference? The correct one is much better, am I right?

    awesomeness.
I'm so sick of seeing perfect characters, queen bees, and leaders. Sure, it's good to have those traits sometimes, but when it gets to the point where you rule the board, members start coming on a little less, and new members don't post. I'm going to regret making this Hannah Montana reference, but Nobody's Perfect. It's true. No one is, so why should your character be? It makes it more boring to watch one person be in control of everything. It makes it seem more like a book rather than a multi-person roleplay. So here's what I ask of you: Don't make your character the "top dog," if you will. Give him/her flaws, dare to make them interesting. I want no Massie Blocks on this board, you hear?

    no spam.
If there is anything more annoying than grammar mistakes, it has to be spam. Spam is when people post randomly for reasons of no purpose. If you're in the middle of a topic with a person, and someone random comes in and says OMG YOU TWO ARE SOOO CUHUTE! out of character, wouldn't that bother you? It bothers me a lot, so let's not have any of that. Spam will be deleted and a warning will be sent to the spammer. If you are part of a topic and want to say something out of character, please do so inbetween brackets [] , parentheses () , or dashes --.

    when applying.
Please, please, pleaaaaaaaaaase use the code when you are applying, and don't delete things so only your answers are showing (example below). Fill it out completely or else use the [ hr ] (no spaces) tag and state below "Unfinished." Within five days after doing so, we ask that you complete the application or it will go into the "Incomplete" subforum. Also, follow the directions in the brackets []. Do not write two sentences of history when we tell you to do two paragraphs. If you do not follow all of the directions in the application, we will reply to your topic and tell you the problem. you are expected to fix it. If you don't within five days, we will send your application to the "Incomplete" subforum.

    EXAMPLE:
    wrong: tori
    correct: name;; tori

    rules of posting.
EDITED by TORI on SATURDAY, AUGUST 30th 2008: Simply this: no one-liners. I don't know how to respond to: "Yeah," said Kylee. You just totally killed the whole point of my character meeting yours. The topic is dead now. And you'll say "oh, tori, i posted in the library" and what will I say? "i don't know how to respond to that; can you make it longer?" No one liners.

    stay active.
Remember how fun the past Harrow was? That's only because the members stayed active for so long. Being active does not mean coming on for five minutes and not posting. It means posting, at least in the C-Box. If you stay active and happy on this Harrow Prep, it could be alive longer than the past one.

    enjoy this.
xD While I was typing that, I realized it sounded extremely harsh. I didn't mean it like that. I meant don't let the rules get you down. They're easy to follow, and they're the basic rules on every roleplay. And we rebuilt Harrow for you, the members. We know how much you loved it and how much you were saddened when it went inactive.
