I think trying to shoot the Fangs with the Submachineguns is a good strategy and it was a melee kamikaze Fang attack anyway, not just the normal shooting.I think Setsuna's QB may have assisted him a bit more here, but Ribbons could have been more enrage at Arios at the moment.

Whilst rewatching episode 50 last night a thought occured to me. Arios is taken out of the battle by Reborns' Fangs. From the first time I saw it I assumed Ribbons did this intentionally as a bit of revenge for Hilling, splitting his focus between Setsuna and Hal. But in my most recent watching, I noticed that the Fangs seem to exclusively focus on Setsuna and it seemed more to be a case of Hal getting cocky and paying the price.
Which would you say is correct?
I simply think that Ribbons was just ensuring that it would be a one-on-one battle between him and the 00 Raiser by eliminating the only other functioning Gundam from the battle.
After all, Ribbons has been obessed with proving who is the true/strongest Innovator, and so letting others participate is out of the question.

Looking at the scene, as soon as Ribbons launches the Fangs they seem to split into pairs headed in opposite directions. Setsuna deals with two Fangs supporting Reborns' assault, while the other pair beelines straight for Arios. Is that what you're asking about?
Yes. Seems my earliest reading of it (Ribbons sends some Fangs after both of them) was correct after all. It just seemed in my more recent viewing that they were focussed only on Setsuna and that Hal was pitching in by trying to take some out.
Einhander- Not sure about that. Although he calls it unecessary, Ribbons makes no attempt to stop Hilling and Revive joining the battle. Seems Ribbons only got picky once the Meisters started killing off his side.

Its a more speculative area, but I always took Ribbons' irritated little "tch" as being upset at Hiling just getting fragged. He did care about her, or at least as much as someone like Ribbons is capable of forming emotional connections.
Regardless, Halle got exactly what he deserved for existing in S2.

I agree and that was my initial reading of it all. I was kind of dissapointed with how that scene came out in the dub. How Furuya plays it in the original works really well because it's the only time we see Ribbons act in such a way. He barely catches himself from breaking his entire 'I'm the only life that matters' stance. The dub just seemed to have it as a more generic dissapointed grunt.
