No.
I am plased with the First Season, wiht the Second season less so (only because I've not been able to catch up to the latest episodes--my fault). I don't think a movie of 00 will be much good, unless it shapes up to be something along the lines of CCA (i.e. works well for fans, but may lose some people unfamiliar with the original series), or like the Zeta Gundam "A New Translation" trilogy.
Personal opinion, I think (original) movies and Gundam normally don't mix well, story-wise. Most Gundam series require some build-up of story; we've seen F91 (which I loved, BTW), which didn't quite have enough 'build' time to show the story background and it's full impact, and at the same time not enough mecha action (IMHO) to please more action-oriented fans. A Gundam movie is going to have to sacrifice story or action (or both) in order to be enjoyed, and I don't know many scriptwriters who can keep both and -still- make it an enjoyable, standalone movie (I could be proven wrong).

To be honest, a 00 sequel would be far better if it followed in the footsteps of Endless Waltz, rather than Char's Counterattack, as has been noted. A theatrical film is all well and good, but it demands familiarity with the subject prequel material - something which doesn't spell good box office takings for most franchises (the exception being Star Wars, and we all remember those prequels). As iconic as the entire Gundam franchise may be in Japan, that doesn't guarantee that the cinema-going Japanese public are familiar with the plot and universe of 00. You can't make a box office smash on otaku alone, after all.
To use a (somewhat hypothetical) Western example, most people in the US and Europe are familiar with Star Trek as a franchise, but that doesn't mean they know the characters and setting of Deep Space Nine well enough to pay money to see a film version.
So! Back to the subject matter, any 00 sequel film would be better served following the Endless Waltz route of releasing a short OVA, which can be compiled into a film with some bonus scenes to justify a "Special Edition" release. Now, if that did well, they could well release it theatrically, but sending it straight to the cinema might not be viable. It all depends on how aware the average Japanese cinema-goer is of the 00 universe; if anyone has any idea on that, I'd be interested to know...

| QUOTE (HellCat Gundam @ Feb 28 2009, 03:53 PM) | Over the last few days, a rumour has emerged of a Gundam 00 movie. This is said to be a theatrical release which will serve as a sequel to the main show. Some have even speculated they might pair it with the long delayed SEED movie as part of the anniversary celebrations.
The same rumours also speak of at least one further TV special which will retell the existing story (I assume for season 2, since one was already done for season 1).
What do you think? Would you welcome this if true? |
oh ooooo.... i think i just drool over my keyboard........

I'd help clean up your drool if I wasn't drowning in my own.
Man... I've just really enjoyed the animation of this series too... and you know that movie animation steps it up too... so that would just be orgasmic to see on screen!

I'm not so much interested in whatever story they take, as I've generally been a Gundam fan to see big Mecha battles. Here's to hoping there's much of that to come! ::raises glass::
