Since the post isn't a direct link, apparently this was found on the jacket of a Gundam Unicorn Novel. It looks like an insert sleeve normally put on books when they're being turned into other media, but some are questioning it.

This tidbit made it to Anime News Network at a minimum, so it is likely trustworthy given that earlier rumors did not make it there or anywhere else. It's worth noting that a wraparound jacket announcement was how the first news about Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood broke.

I have no idea where the idea that it broke in Newtype came from though, given that the pictures are of the novel and are not from the magazine. If there is a reference to it in there, hopefully someone will scan it and clear that up. It'd sure be nice to have some details from the start, although I won't expect it.

Courtesy of Dark Deul on MAHQ, we have the cover of Newtype... but not any of the information. There is supposed to be some big Gundam Unicorn announcement in this issue, but no one is sure of what's in the article.

5 9...so basically, the issue isn't officially out till the 9th May.

Which I guess means another case of Gundam Ace getting the news as sloppy seconds next month...

Actually, I believe it goes on the shelves on 25th April... That's the Publishing date, not the actual date

Edit: Correction. I was thinking of the big announcement in Volume 8 of the series, but my guess is that'll still be out way before May 9th

EDIT 2:

Looks like the cat has been let out of the bag. (from Neo-Era Gundam Ace scans via Mark064)

From Monthly Gundam Ace.

Staff:

Director - Kazuhiro Furuhashi
Story: Harutoshi Fukui
Script - Yasuyuki Mutou
Animation character design - Kumiko Takahashi
Character design original drafts: Yoshikazu Yasuhiko
Mecha design - Yoshinori Sayama, Junya Ishigaki, Genma Nobuhiko, Hajime Katoki
Mobile Suit original drafts - Kunio Okawara
Setting historical investigation - Shinya Ogura

Doesn't seem to be a movie too, so this whole Italian thing was BS. Harutoshi Fukui talks about storyboards for episode 1. So series or OVA is open currently.

If this ends up living to all the hype of the manga( Which I have yet to read xD) this is going to be awesome with the series probably going on into 2010(since winter 2009 is pretty close to that) and then the 00 movie too. 2010 is looking pretty epic.

Unicorn isn't a manga. It's a novel series.

An OVA or TV series would suit Unicorn more than a movie, given the detail that the novel has. And generally, Gundam movies only work if they've had previous backstory to work with; much as I loved F91, I'm also the first to acknowledge that the movie format left a lot of plot development out.

Or, if they do plan on a movie, it should be worked our as a trilogy, to fully flesh out the story.

Either way, if Bandai will finally do what they never did before (make an anime out of a previously novel- or manga-only Gundam), does that mean that I may eventually see HGUC Unicorn kits? :EXCITED:

It turns out that this could be a series, if the Cosmic Era blog is right: (hat tip: Taekmkm of Toon Zone)

[Update] According to Kouryaku no kan, Kazuhiro Furuhashi and Harutoshi Fukui reveal in an interview (appeared in the Gundam Ace) that the storyboard of the “episode one” is already done. Subsequently, Gundam Unicorn would be adapted in a series.

Edit note: Speaking of TZ, HellCat pointed out to me that "series" could mean a OVA or a TV show, or even a movie "series" in theory. Fair point, there isn't a certain conclusion yet.

Also, the official website has been updated with the first official information. This is from another post at the blog, I just cleaned up obvious typos and spelling mistakes.

I just had a thought: What if Unicorn will turn out to be a "Webisodic" series? I.e. not an OAV or movie series at all, but a series of 5-15 minute shorts online? Do you think that might be possible?

I sort of doubt that simply because they got a veteran director who has done numerous series. I think Stargazer had some guy who had been in the business but never directed before. I also think the fact that the main Gundam Unicorn webpage is about the animated work, and not with the novel, would be consistent with a longer work. Though it worries me they haven't talked about the format yet.

So it seems that we will have an UC Gundam story at the end of the year. It will be an early Christmas for us! happy.gif Based on the bits of it I have seen in issues of
Gundam Ace, we will get a good story, with all the UC drama we can stand, and then some. I predict a 12-13 episode TV series, with another 12-13 episodes pennding audience support and further story development. If the novels themselves have not reached a finishing point by the series air time, Sunrise will probably arrange their own ending.

I am a Yaz character design fan from way back, and it's odd that they didn't take him as character designerup front. Maybe he decided to finish Gundam: The Origin before taking on another anime project. happy.gif The adapted designs don't look bad, and will doubtless improve with familiarity.

wavehawk: Sunrise might webcast the series, but I am inclined to say they won't. The franchise will get its TV broadcast time slot, never fear.

I am expecting HG-UC kits for Unicorn & friends in 2010 now. There have already been 3 MG kits released, and a few more B-Club 1/100 resin kits as well. It would be expected that Bandai will get the HG-UC line chugging to support the new show. (It would be that, or give us a GM Sniper II and GM Cannon II, and they have to stay on pattern with the denial. Isn't that right, 'Zook? laugh.gif)

"New" Unicorn Commercial...actually, it just recycles most of the previous Unicorn animated ad, so nothing really much to see, save for the last couple of minutes of THE UNICORN FIGHTING THE KSHATRIYA. Those last few precious seconds made watching the whole clip worthwhile.
