Ruriiro.

My bro is into the darker GoGo music. I'd later go for something ligher. That's why I'm sticking around now when his craze is now already over.

For the first time listener, I think the song is quite impressive. I let some heavy-metal guys listen and their jaw kinda dropped after knowing that the guitar player is Yuu.

Well I guess I am on the lighter side as well. I never listened to rock/alternative/metal stuff until I started listening to j-music. I want to say j-rock is better but I have nothing to compare it to. I was blown away after hearing some of gogo's stuff. I love their style! So I can understand that those guys were impressed, but was it only because she's a woman?

I have a question are there many non japanese female guitar players? (I mean successful and well respected, not the chick that lives next door.)

Heart is probably the biggest.

Lisa Loeb is pretty popular too.

There's a lot of indie acts that have female guitarists.

But yeah, it seems like the amount of female Japanese guitarists are definitely larger than Western female guitarists.

Somehow it always occurs to be that Western female guitarists always try to appear masculine in order to match up with their greasy hairy messy male peers.

Pardon the fashion too. Is it because I only come to know female guitarists in the late 80s and early 90s that all of them seem to love parading in flashy tight latex pants, big hair and bad makeup (excessive amount of mascara).

Yet, their skill is undeniably insane. My favourite would be Jeniver Battern. She totally wooed me with her LED wig(what ever that liminous thing is supposed to be) in her performance with Michael Jackson. Chek out Youtube for that !

I guess in the West, unless female guitarists can pull off thunder-speed shredding, crazy tapping, OMFG-fast sweep picking, their name will be unheared of.

However, Kim in Pixies is the exception. I find her somewhat like the old version of Akko.

That's also the reason why I like Asian female guitarists. They make the best use out of simplicity in their playing yet establisth an equally cool and unique style. (by "simplicity" I don't mean poor or of lower technical level. I just don't know the right word for that. In fact, Tokie's riff is very complex. But she manages to keep that complexity in control by agreesive repitition and does not let it run loose to become an long-winded one-man show). Asian guitarists appear more demure, mature and sophisticated. And they look normal XD.

Yet, I can't get used to watching some sweet-looking girls playing guitar. Last time I saw this Japanes band (Can't not remebber the name. Maria or something?) consisting of 6 girls with 2 glam-looking bassists. And that does not work for me. I think female guitarists should appear a little rough but not too much. Yuu's look is the best ! Cute and cool at the same time

Someone, please enlighten me with the new generation of female guitarists of this century please !

I do not know many female guitarist, but I know alot that play other things. Well I will list my short list...

mari (tsushimamire)-like punk lolita, tsushi is my favorite group.

maaya sskamoto- solo plays accustic guitar.

shiina ringo (solo/tokyo jihen)- quite a bad ass, lol I love her, but I heard she doesn't play guitar that well...genius composer though... (see I-NO from guitly gear to see the truth)

utada hikaru(solo)- plays accustic guitar.

All of benten's label...

I don't know... I can't think of anymore now. But yuu is my favorite. Yuu kicks just the right amount of rear...

What you heard is not true !!!

*Dusting Shiina Ringo shrine in my room*

THe lady is wicked. You must listen to her solo in Sounan. Some people get the wrong idea that Hirama is the only one playing all along. But our lady did contribute greatly to that awesome guitar duet.

DYnamite Out is a testimonial of our lady's awesome guitar skill.

OMG...I'm a little turned on everytime I talk about Shiina Ringo.

Acoustic = not really interested. Almost all singers can play acoustic. Utada Hikaru used to be cool but I don't like her anymore

Ugh. Other than, like, two songs (Boku wa Kuma being one of them), I'm not a fan of Utada at all.

I haven't listened to her in a while, but YUI is a pretty kickin' guitarist too.

For me, my fandom with UH started and ended with the amazingly beautiful Sakura PV.

YUI is admirable. But she needs to upgrade her look.

*I'm a frigging superficial fan*

Or I just find her not assertive enough.

I saw this Jpop female singer Yaida Hitomi who always poses with a guitar in her album cover. This fact irritates me a little but I listened to her once and I guess she was quite good.

Couldn't recall how she sounds like though.

Well, I was a huge Shiina Ringo fan, but I couldn't find much other Japanese music that I actually enjoyed(apart from Judy and Mary and some other bands), so I went to project-j and read about GO!GO!7188 and decided I had to check them out. I've loved them ever since.
