When I was visiting Tokyo at the end of last month, I was at the Tower Records in Akihabara checking out what they had to preview in the indies section and came across a band called スカートの中 (Skirt no Naka, literally, In Skirt). I listened to a bit of them and liked what I heard. Seemed like a younger Tsushimamire. The sign said it was their first release. I didn't have much money then, so I made a mental note to check them out later.

Fast forward to last night. I was at TSUTAYA renting some CDs for my forthcoming radio guest appearance. When I saw that they had Skirt no Naka's mini album, I had to pick it up.

I listened to it last night, and although we're only four months in, it'll be hard to beat for album of the year. It's only 7 tracks long, but not a bad one out of the bunch. Each one rocks hard, the vocals being sang (and more often than not, yelled) with true conviction.

The lyrics are a bit funny. Mostly about dirty jokes, and panties, and boyfriends who have sex a lot and what happens when the person you love makes curry and puts your very hated green pepper in it (this is basically the song title). The album ends with the very haunting "Girl who Jumped from the 18th Floor." So, in a way, it's almost like GIRL Seishun Rock.

The group is made up of four girls who (I think) are around 19 years old, from Tokyo and formed the band out of their high school club.

Guitar/Lead Vocal: Yurie
Bass/Lead Vocal: Weapon
Guitar/Back-Up Vocal: Nappi
Drum/Back-Up Vocal: Sakison

Below are the ONLY three videos that you can find on YouTube of them.

Sakatachi Onna (live/pro shot)

Sakatachi Onna PV

The song about Curry and Bousou Kareshi (Delusional Boyfriend) (live/am-shot)

I'll put the link up in Adult Secrets later.

Hey I think Skirt No Naka disbanded. Their website says something to that affect, for August 2012.

Bummer, they were promising.

Nooooooooooooooo.... :(

They definitely had promise. And it's funny because I thought I checked their website at the end of last year and didn't see this... oh well.

It seems like they released a CD of their last live and some other songs they must have been working on.

I'll have to order this from Amazon, because it seems my Tower Records doesn't carry it.

Hopefully, the members will go on and do new projects. They all had talent, so it'd be a shame if they didn't continue to work in music.

(PS, their breakup release was handled a lot better than GO!GO!'s).
