Where is all the good music going?? I've liked some of Tsushimamire's stuff, but it can be hit or miss.....

You should give Tsushimamire more time. They have a lot of material out now. The last two albums (sex on the beach, giving blood) were basically stellar. before those was Ah, Umi Da. Not quite as well rounded, but it has a few amazing songs on there.

Not to mention all of their stuff before that.

They just put out a new concept album, though I haven't heard it yet. I forgot to pre-order it : \

Chiriwaka, I just don't get the same feeling even if it's still Yuu. Even Ten no Mikaku sounds more "real" than Chiriwaka.

Chirinuruwowaka's first, Iroha, is super rocking and very dynamic. Their second is not nearly as good, or lasting. The reason, is because they have a different bassist and a different guitarist. I'm optomistic though that they can re-grow into something more solid. It seemed like the mini-album was pretty much their growing pains, produced for purchase.

I thought Akko wrote much of the lyrics? Regardless, it seemed to me that Gogo's writing overall (lyrics + music) was a pretty even split between Yuu and Akko. I mean, it would have to be, with a 3 piece band.

I think that she feels that she's done all she can do within the confines of GO!GO! As in, guitar/bass/drums with three members. It seems that Yuu likes being true to the real nature of the band. I'm sure Yuu could write songs with a keyboard or whatever in them, and release more albums that way. Hire session musicians to play live etc. But that wouldn't really be GO!GO!7188.

I'm pretty sure most GO!GO! songs consist of Yuu on guitar, Akko on bass, and Turkey on drums. Nothing extra. There's a reason Ten no Mikaku wasn't a GO!GO! album or a Wowaka album. Likewise, Iroha wasn't a solo album or a GO!GO! album. Yuu likes to keep all the bands within themselves. I always hated when Weezer brought in that random guitar player during the Make Believe tour so Brian could play guitar, so if this is what it means for GO!GO! to split up, I'd rather have this than Yuu break out the Herdy Gerdy to keep the motivation going.

I thought there was a difference between writing music and writing lyrics *confused*

Yuu wrote the music and Akko wrote the majority of lyrics for the songs, yes

I'm so sad to hear this news but am very thankful for all of GOGO's wonderful music as well as getting to meet both Yuu & Akko in person on the 2007 Tour, one of my favorite shows, & favorite bands of ALL TIME. You will be very much missed GO!GO!

Damn. I just learned of this a few hours ago. I had been on a Judy And Mary kick the last couple of days, feeling all nostalgic about the release of Warp back in 2000 when I discovered them, only to have them break up after that tour. Discovering Go!Go!7188 soon after that made JAM's breakup a lot easier to take, and they quickly became my favorite rock band ever. I got to follow their entire career in (near) real time, so this is devastating for me. I can honestly say that I loved every album they released -- including the so-called "bad" ones. Go!Go! on their worst day was still better than just about every other band at their best, and their hit-to-miss ratio over eight full albums will likely never be matched. Another great band that I never got to see live. This sucks. I really hope Akko continues to play and record, because she's my all time favorite rock bassist, and it's not even close. She is untouchable.

Just saw this... :(

It's sad that I'll never be able to go to a concert, Go!Go!7188 is one of my favorite bands, I haven't stopped listening to their songs since I discovered them in 2006, the last album was great and I was expecting something even better for the next one.. oh well...

At least it sounds like they're not fighting or anything, they just don't feel like doing it anymore. I'm ok with that.

Nooooooooooooo... :( :(

My alltime favoorite band is gone forever :(

I kind of saw it coming with Akko getting a kid, and i knew there wouldnt be any new albums for a year or 2, but i didnt think it would end.

I got into GOGO , i dont know what year, 2006-2007 maybe? some monts before PARADE got released.

I only knew 1 japanese artist at the time. It was purely a set of random events that got me in the direction of GOGO. Like most things in my life, stuff just happen randomly, and i like to act uppon them.

I think i've posted this earlier, but here we go...

Me and a friend (who just got a car, a really old one from the 80's) where going on a road trip, and i dicided to make a burn cd with music we both like.
And somehow we both like some Bryan Adams song back then, yeah, i know...

This was maybe in 2002-2004. So i found some mp3's in Kazaa or napster, but there was one song i couldnt find. A song called Heat of the Night by Bryan Adams.
So i jumped into one of my supernice download url bookmark. mp3.lycos.co.uk

Tried some different searchstrings. Nope, It didnt look good, well there was 1 file, called heatofthenight.mp3, i knew it was a gamble, but why the heck not.

After about 30 minutes or so the file was finished. So i started it up in Winamp.
First thought.... LOL WAT WAAAAAAAT? I just downloaded some chinese wierd shit??

NOW to the most important moment in my life.

I instantly thought, nope wrong song, i should just delete it. But some part of my brain couldnt do it. It was intrigueing somehow. About a week or 2, i started listeneing to the song over and over and over again, just analyzing the words in my head, dreaming away, thinking, what is this? who are this artist? By then i had learned every single word of the song, kind of hating myself for doing it. It was some mystery part that i needed to solve.

Doing a google search, with some of the lyrics, (i didnt by all means know the lyrics, only phonetically) And I found the answer that had been nagging me for weeks.

It was a japanese artist, Aikawa Nanase.

After that i was curious about more. It probablu went about half a year up to a year.
I was somehow in love with the phonetically sounding of japanese, i didnt know a word of it, but i really love the way almost every other letter is a vowel.

So there i was, i had about 2 Aikawa albums. Now where do i go from here???
Im just some norwegian guy with no links to the japanese music scene.

So i tried to think. If i like Aikawa Nanase, i should try and find some other people who like her and see what artists they like. But I dont know anybody and had no idea where to find such people....

But then i had a BRILLIENT IDEA!! The idea that changed EVERYTHING!
1 RANDOM event.

SO, the Aikawa Nanase album i downloaded, i found on OiNK, the torrent tracker, which got shut down in 2007. I found the uploader or a random seeder, i dont really remember. I was only into 1 profile. So i checked what torrents that person seeded. I thought...if he like Aikawa maybe i like some of his stuff too.

He was seeding Tatagami by GO!GO!7188. I did a youtube search for gogo7188. And as with many others on this forum, i saw Ukifune, where the Yuu was playing , with a face like plastic, having the same facial expression, showing no emotions, and. I got somehow madly intrigued and could feel something sad in her eyes.

This was mostly why i like Yuu, the way she is kind of shy, well at least in her older days.

Anyhow. Listen to the album like 10 times, i like Ukifune but didnt quite like any others. So i was about to give it up. But i got really hocked on the song Nanashi. So that gave me the hopes to give gogo a 2nd chance. So i downloaded PARADE, which i found on JPOPSUKI 1.0, and i abosolutly loved it, and in the torrent discription, there was a link HERE :D

I was like OMG OMG :D There are other people out there like me, that are not japanese and love GOGO

and soon i downloaded them all. And really started loving their music.

I think GO!GO!7188 will always be one of my all time favorite band, and C7 is my favorite song, which i really started to love when watching BeoBab and KellyRenee play it on Guitar on Youtube, which made me buy a guitar and play C7 as well :)

I think this is the longest text i have written in 10 years lol

I really love your story Kjetting. It's totally random as you said lol
Man, I used to listen to Aikawa Nanase a lot when I was younger.
I called her the "queen of J-rock", t's kind of stupid, I know.
Some of her songs are really good tho.

I just remembered another female J-rock artist I frequently listened to...
MAKI OTSUKI!!! She did the ending songs "memories" and "RUN!RUN!RUN!" for ONE PIECE. Awesome stuff, her song "Summertime Love Letter" always takes me back to my Otaku times, hahha.

I'm pretty sure that the the place where I downloaded my first GO!GO! song (Akai Sofa) was a Morning Musume forum. -ui-

It was this guy's thread who was uploading all of his semi-obscure J-Rock albums. It was through that thread that I learned about GO!GO! of course, and LOW IQ 01, and BAZRA and JUDY AND MARY and stuff like that.

I can't remember how I found this place, possibly through Wikipedia.

Akko had better not become a housewife. She needs to get that kid a nanny and form a new band RIGHT NOW.

what has she been doing outside of GO!GO!7188 anyway?
I know she did a couple of solo albums a while back, but she's not exactly out there guesting with people (like Yuu and Turkey do).

I found mention of Akko in connection with this http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=DAKTCRCD-10 - but don't know what the Japanese description says.

The engineer on that album was the same one for one of Akko's albums (and Bump of Chicken).
