I just knew you were going to say that, Josh. You've mentioned it in almost every post you made here. *slightly exaggerating*
Anyway... my GO!GO! story isn't really spectacular... It started in early 2004 when a friend of mine sent me "Aa Seishun" via messenger. I thought they were just a regular J-Pop band at first, but I was obviously interested enough to check out more songs, and so I found "Ukifune", "Koi no Uta", "Jet Ninjin".... within a few weeks I ended up downloading their entire discography and buying the first items of my GO!GO! collection, "Dai Eizo Sai" and "Tora no Ana"...
Over the following years I spent way too much money to complete my GO!GO! collection, the money I probably should've saved to get to Japan or US to see them live, haha. After their last few releases I lost interest in them to be honest, something was lacking and they weren't the same GO!GO! I fell in love with anymore. Also, Arcade Fire had kicked them off the "favorite band in the world" throne, but I was always convinced that would change again after seeing GO!GO! live... I never would've thought the day of their breakup would come so soon and so sudden, tho. Especially cause one day before I learned about it, I talked to Sadako about how long they have been on hiatus already..
After the initial shock and after reading Yuu's statement on quitting the band, I'm not as sad anymore. Even if I can't see them live in this formation, there's still a chance to see Yuu, Akko or Turkey with their future projects. And who knows, maybe there'll even be a reunion one day!
The most important thing to me however is that I've made friends with a lot of great people because we shared the love for this band, especially Shu, Yahiko and of course my fellow German GO!GO! fan, Sadako! :D I'm glad we've stayed friends over the years and I really hope we meet in person someday!! (okay Sadako and I have met already but it's not that difficult as we both live in Germany xD)

NANASHI TOKYO MEETUP FEBRUARY 26 2013. 10 YEARS AFTER THE RELEASE OF TATEGAMI.
LETS DO IT.
And yeah, I totally think the fact that they're almost anti-J-Pop is a huge part of their appeal. When I first heard that Akai Sofa MP3, I was picturing some J-Pop starlet fronting a rock band or something. Ala JUDY AND MARY or YUM!YUM!ORANGE or something. So, when I saw that infamous UKIFUNE video, I was pleasantly surprised to find it was a rocking trio and the supposed "J-Pop Starlet" was shredding the guitar. And I mean, other than some of their famous singles, and Parade, they're pretty far from the typical J-Pop girl bands like ZONE or Whiteberry.
And I will admit, I haven't listened to them as much in recent times. Usually my bias towards music goes back and forth between Western and Japanese, and it seemed to be mostly stuck on Western for a while. But whenever I met people in Japan, and we started talking about music, I'd always mention GO!GO! as my favorite Japanese band, regardless, and while I was in Japan, I always looked in the GO!GO! section in CD stores and stuff, and bought anything my budget allowed.
I guess, we took them for granted for a bit and now they're gone... :(

I had a feeling things were going sour after Akko's maternity leave... Tokyo Jihen and GO!GO!7188 in the same month? Gut wrenching to say the least.
First heard Jet Ninjin on the internet 6 years ago, and I was instantly hooked. Went to Japan in 2007 and bought the Manatsu no Dance Hall single there when it came out, but didn't see them.
Where is all the good music going?? I've liked some of Tsushimamire's stuff, but it can be hit or miss. Mass of the Fermenting Dregs are cycling through members as well...
I've tried to get into school food punishment, but it's just not the same.
GO!GO! made me want to learn Japanese. Chiriwaka, I just don't get the same feeling even if it's still Yuu. Even Ten no Mikaku sounds more "real" than Chiriwaka.
Honestly, I haven't felt this bad since I found out what GO!GO!7188 supposedly means (the pager theory for those who may not be aware - it just took away all the mystery).
I think the only GO!GO! release that I don't have in some form is the weird vinyl "single."
I don't know what to do. GO!GO! were my heroes.
