the strip locals call the main street of ember 'the strip.' no pun intended. all the cute little shops are lined up on pearl street which is about half a mile long from beginning to end. this is where you'll find all the tourists snapping pictures and scrambling for souvenirs.

the arcade next to the drive-in, the arcade is the second best hang out for young people, even if you didn't come to play dungeons and dragons. pete, the owner, has his own little pizza parlor in the front room and can whip you up a fair-priced tasty snack.

lakeside drive-in just a few yards from maroon lake sits a classic drive-in movie theater which has proudly been the hot spot for teenagers since 1964. pull up in your dad's borrowed car and 'enjoy the movie,' hang out at the concession stand, or smoke behind the big screen if you're part of a more edgy crowd.

harrison park what would a small town be without a cute park right in the middle of everything? harrison park is a small grassy park with towering pine trees that have been thriving ever since ember was founded. in the center is a playground and a modest well-kept pond.

ember public library the ember public library is inside an old victorian mansion. it may look small on the outside, but you'd be surprised at how well you can cram and stack books into small spaces if you need to. and that's exactly what the old librarian did.

ember highschool right across the street from harrison park stands an old brick building for all the highschool students in ember. it's a modest, two story building with small classes and a lovely courtyard in the front.

the mountain in the winter feel free to hit the slopes! all ember locals get a half price discount, courtesy of mr. daniels, the owner of the mountain and the centennial hotel. in the spring and summer the mountain is open for hiking and mountain biking. just watch out for bears!

limelight night club the nightlife in ember is practically nonexistant aside from the limelight. it's your typical club with a bar and dance floor. fake IDs necessary if you're under twenty-one. since ember is such a tight knit community, just hope the bouncer isn't friends with your mom.

the centennial hotel on one side of the lake is ember and the ski resort and on the other side is a beautiful georgian hotel simply known as 'the centennial.' it opened the day colorado became a state and is just as beautiful now as it was when it was first built. well, aside from the two times it's been burned down. the centennial is currently open to guests for the first time since december. the rebuilding process is almost done, aside from the third floor. just be sure to stay out of the way of the builders.

hiking trails one of the few entertaining things to do in ember is to take a hike up to the ghost town or the old mining camp. it's about a six miles hike through the forest to both. just don't get too jumpy once you arrive. and if you think you can hear laughing and whispering, don't worry, you're not the only one.

horseshoe falls if you head out behind the centennial hotel for a few miles, eventually you will bump into a stunning twenty-five foot waterfall and a large pool at the bottom. go ahead and jump in, but the water tends to be a little cold.

the cemetery chances are if your family has been here since day one or after, your relatives have been buried here. it's a spooky place with over five hundred graves dating back to the 1860s. feel free to take a look during the day, but the cemetery tends to be some place locals avoid after sunset.
