"Well, of course. Perhaps if... no, that's not it. Hell, you knew what they were up to. You should have seen it coming, Andrei. No, it's not a common mistake. They're wolves, my friend. They can't think. Oh, well, I guess I'll have to look into it when I get back. I don't know, a few months. Hey, I do have some personal business to take care of. Of course she does. Good luck."

Nikolaus hung up. Rookies, he scoffed. Then again, it was sort of a difficult job. He put his phone back inside his pockets, and walked through the silent street. There were a few humans around, but not many. He apparently had come to a sort of silent place within the city. There were a few sounds some ways far away, but not in the immediate vicinity of the vampire. His eyes adjusted to the ever-changing shadows. Mortal's affinity with light was staggering. They seemed obsessed to fight the darkness with whatever tool they could use. And, to Nikolaus' regret, they were quite efficient. Hunting was a bit harder in these modern times than it was before, in the older days. But Nikolaus enjoyed challenges. For the most part.

He noticed with certain satisfaction that the people around here were clean. And young. That was exquisite. His fangs itched with anticipation at their future piercing and drawing of blood. They hadn't tasted flesh for three days now. Traveling always did that to Nikolaus. He was always so obsessed at arriving, that the necessities of unlife were ignored. He shrugged, and walked with a leisurely place.

A few women looked at him, and blushed as he looked back at them. He really enjoyed that feeling. Specially because it usually led to him feeding off some of them. The rush of blood, mixed with the exhilarating thrill of lust brought much satisfaction to the vampire. Now that he rarely killed those he fed off, he no longer became over-burdened with guilt. Besides; the less people that died, the more he could feed off tomorrow. He smiled wickedly. This city offered so much potential. Perhaps he could even start ... No. That was forbidden. He sighed, and walked along. He smiled at a few women, and nodded at some of the men. They all seemed a bit put off by his friendly attitude. Then again, they didn't know who he was. How could they? His time here was a few hours, at best.

His feet eventually led him to a rather imposing structure. Nikolaus would normally look in awe at the fantastic building, yet back home, he had already been marvelled at the size certain buildings could acquire. None the less, this place did not stay far behind. Even with his mind focused on something else, he felt the undoubted essence of mortals inside the building. His eyes flickered as he realized this would be a good place to start his hunt. Young people came out of the building, mostly distracted, and either in pairs, or alone. Easy catch.

He approached the building, and placed his intentions on one solitary girl walking out, her glasses focused on the heavy books she was carrying. Nikolaus followed the standard procedure: he followed her a few seconds, until she finally noticed she was not alone. However, the girl did not follow suit as other had: she actually stayed there, and looked at the vampire straight in the eye.

"Can I help you?" she said, in a quivering voice. She was quite obviously at least marginally afraid. Nikolaus seized this opportunity to present himself in a friendly-yet-interested manner.

"Ah, no, Miss. Please excuse me. I did not wish to startle you. I was just awestruck with you. It is not every day that I see such a beautiful face behind glasses, carrying what would seem to be terribly heavy books. I wanted to make sure you could handle them all by your own. " he smiled fondly, trying his very best to look concerned.

It appeared to work, as her features softened, and her eyes spoke of friendship. Of course, it might have been Nikolaus' influence over her that drove her to drop her books, and actually follow the vampire into a less visible spot. With smooth words and sweet talk, Nikolaus removed the last shreds of her defences. The girl was deliriously pleased, and did not - could not - care about what was going on around her. She did not even feel the sharp fangs piercing her throat, nor the weakening of her body as her sweet blood left her. She closed her eyes, and fell asleep.

Nikolaus approved of that. All of that made this particular feeding quite a good one. He stopped feeding the moment he felt the girl's pulse become much weaker. She would not die, of course... But she would not be strong. With delicacy, Nikolaus carried the girl back to her books. Holding the girl in one arm, and carrying the books with the other, the vampire headed towards the building again. He would place the girl inside, leading her to believe she had fallen asleep. All memories of him would most likely be gone. He smiled with certain pride.
