The night streets were silent as she walked along them, but figures lurked in the shadows. She walked faster as the hunger bit at her endurance. The smooth glass doors of an inn appeared at her right, and she walked into a lobey. She saw a face, smelled warm blood, and tasted fear. Control, control. she told herself as she remembered her hood was up, which was probably why she had frightened the clerk behind the counter. Yes. As soon as her hood was lowered the man's manner calmed. Roshan forced herself to walk casualy over to the counter. "A single room please," she said in her flatest voice. "Room 636," the man said as he handed over a card key. The smell of his blood was almost too much. She quickly took the key and headed to her room. The room was starting to spin by the time she reached it, so she quickly threw her bag on the bed, pulled out a small, light blue purse and a change of clothes, and rushed back out of the room shoving the clothes and her card key into the purse.
