THE BASICS RESPECT Here at Living In A Dream World, we strive to create a friendly environment. For this to happen, we expect all members and staff to act with a level of maturity, no matter what their age. We understand that it’s improbable to impossible that everyone is going to agree with one another all the time or that everyone is going to be the best of friends with everyone on the board, but we do expect people to treat one another with respect. Disrespect of another member will not be tolerated. If by any chance, you do have an issue with another member of the board, please bring to the attention of an admin instead of bringing it to the attention of the entire board. Along those lines, we know that characters will have disagreements IC, but we expect such arguments to remain IC. Characters will have disagreements, but those disagreements should not evolve into OOC grudges or arguments. Such instances will be dealt with by the staff of the board accordingly.
PLAGIARISM It’s probably one of the most frustrating occurrences that can happen, and here at Living in a Dream World, we take it very seriously. This extends not only to people ripping off LIADW, but members ripping from other boards on LIADW. Applications, posts, graphics, if we see anything being ripped from another board, we will have no other choice to ban the account an ip address of the person responsible. We strive to maintain a creative roleplay environment, and such cannot happen when any person on the board is stealing.
RATING Yes, this is a board based off of the movie Hot Fuzz. and therefore we understand that violence and language are a common part of the world. But we also expect our members to have a certain amount of self-control. Going into great gruesome or graphic detail is not looked highly upon. We encourage the fade to black tool when it comes to any thread that may become explicit. When it comes to language, we will not have a cow of your character swears, but we know that any character has more than five words in their vocabulary. If not, they need to repeat the first grade. We do allow more mature threads, but only if they are clearly marked so unsuspecting members don’t go stumbling upon anything that would require them reaching for the brain bleach.
GRAPHICS We are pretty lenient on graphics on the board as long as they don’t stretch the board. Icons can be up to 150x150 pixels in size while with signatures we ask that you use your best judgment. If you have a graphic made from a source other than yourself, we require that you credit the person who made the icon or set for you. Other than that, we just ask that you keep your portrayal if you plan on using one within the age/look ratio and not explicit.
CREATIVITY Here on LIADW, we encourage creativity when it comes to plots. General plots will be developed by plots from time to time for all members of the board to participate in and we also welcome member sub-plots. For major plot events that involve a majority of the characters on the board, we ask that you run such ideas past the staff. We don’t wish to micromanage the board; we just want to make sure nothing conflicts with any plots we have in the works at the moment or coming up.
REGISTERING, APPLYING, AND ROLEPLAYING REGISTRATION When creating a character, please register with their first and last name in all lower case. Registering with a name in any other format will prove to the staff that you have not read the rules and we will delete your character’s account. Also, characters who register and never post an application will be purged in the next activity check. If the board is attacked by spam-bots, we may end up switching it over to a validation process, so make sure that you register with a correct e-mail address, although we hope it doesn’t come to this.
IC ACTIONS IC CONSEQUENCES It’s a concept that is very important to any board. No character is invincible and they all have flaws. If you wish to dodge bullets, you’re in the wrong place. If your character puts themselves in harm, please be ready for them to not walk out of the situation without a scratch. We are not saying that a character can seriously hurt you without any sort of discussion with you, but we don’t consider it to be godmodding or powerplaying if you enter in a fight and get punched. This is important to understand especially considering that on the board, characters will die. We will need members to volunteer their characters for death, and we don’t want to have to deal with arguments of godmodding every other minute.
MARY AND GARY SUE You know them, they’re the characters who are perfect in every way, have a tragic past, sleep with all the guys/girls, are stunningly beautiful, and have absolutely no flaws. Not only are they boring to play because you cannot develop them, they are almost impossible to play with because they’re ‘perfect’. When you’re applying to be a character, we will not allow for you to say whether or not your character is beautiful or not. You can describe them, but not by implying how attractive others might perceive them. It’s all a personal preference thing and we hope that members will be able to focus on other parts of their characters besides their appearances. Along those lines, we also would like for characters to limit the angst. There’s plenty of drama to take part in on the board besides creating petty drama involving sleeping with every character, having a baby and you don’t know who the daddy is, having a completely traumatic past, etc.
LITERACY Yes, the term is thrown around a lot, and we know that it is difficult to define. Here at LIADW, we simply ask that your posts are at least three paragraphs long, contribute to whatever thread or plot you might be a part of, and are for the most part grammatically correct and contain decent spelling. We will not be grammar Nazis on the board, but it’s not too difficult to run your post through a spell-checker before you hit the post button. Firefox has one built right in and there are plenty of online sites that are available.
ACTIVITY In order for any roleplay board to succeed, it requires active members. LIADW is only as good as the members who are a part of the board, and because of this, we ask that if you plan on joining that you remain active. We understand that real life issues will come up, but out of common courtesy we ask that you post a quick note in the absence forum to let members know that you will be taking a leave of absence. Occasionally, we will host activity checks to purge the board of members who are no longer active in the board. Their character applications will be archived along with their posts. If a inactive member wishes to re-join, we more than welcome them back, but people will be less likely to post with you if you’re constantly leaving the board then coming back.
ADVERTISING FAIR’S FAIR To keep it simple, you are more than welcome to advertise on our board as long as we are capable of doing the same on yours. It doesn’t matter what type of board you are: invisionfree, proboards, ibpfree, as long as it’s in the right format. If we are unable to advertise on your board, your advertisement will be deleted. If you wish to affiliate with us, please use the proper form and have our button up in a visible place on your site before you request to affiliate with us.
KEEP IT IN THE ADVERTISING FORUM While we allow guests to advertise on LIADW, you are only allowed to advertise in the advertising forum. Any adverts in any other location on the board will be regarded as span and deleted immediately. Also, if you’re looking to affiliate with us, please use the affiliates thread. Any advertisement stating that they wish to affiliate will be disregarded.
