Fifteen million killed in genocide. Magneto rumored to be among them. His beloved nation Genosha has been reduced to nothing more than ashes and broken buildings, along with the grisly remains of the dead scattered across the walk ways. The cries of his people are rendered immortal, as his daughter, Polaris creates art in the squalid wake of his death: a huge three headed statue in the middle of the newly created desert island.

Hatred is now ever present in the streets of world. The number of anti-mutant protests have skyrocketed into the millions in recent months. This new behavior in humans will only create the worst possible story the world has ever seen to date. To try and relax human and mutant connections, Professor Charles Francis Xavier, leader in genetic science, has come out of the shadows on two legs announces to the world that he is a mutant.

First Floor
The main entrance to the mansion is here on the first floor, as well as back entrance used for access to the swimming pool and much of the rest of the estate. There are numerous surveillance and security systems on this floor, as there are to a lesser extent on higher floors, as well as Xavier's private living quarters, which take up some of this floor and the second. The first floor also contains a magnificently furnished living room and main dining room, a more informal dining room, and a casual sitting room. The mansion's main computer and kitchen facilities are featured here, along with Cerebro, the Professor's office, an enormous library and the majority of the school's classrooms.

Second Floor
With the exception of Storm, all of the X-Men and New Mutants live on the mansion's second floor. The X-Men occupy the west wing, while the New Mutants are situated in the opposite east wing. The floor also boasts a guest room, a mainstay for Xavier's colleague, Dr. Moira MacTaggart, as well as laundry facilities, a workshop and a recreation area. The Professor himself also has a bedroom on this floor, which is occasionally occupied by Magneto, the former head of the school.

Attic
The attic of the Xavier Institute is used predominately as a storage area. One large room on this level is for the use of X-Men leader Oror Munroe, as her living quarters. Known as 'Ororo's Roost', the room not only houses her living quarters, but also her sizable collection of plants, which receive sunlight from the overhanging skylight. Also in the attic is a large 'playroom', used as recreation area, a room for communications equipment and the stairway up to the mansion's cupola.

Sub Basement L-1
The Xavier mansion's sub-basements were only constructed in recent years. Sub-Basement level one is primarily for the school's extensive medical facilities, including a fully equipped operating room, which can hold twenty-five patients without crowding. This level also includes a fully-equipped gymnasium, an indoor Olympic sized-swimming pool - for use when it's too cold to use the one outdoors - a sauna, and a steambath. Locker rooms are also located here, along with various laboratory facilities and the terminal for the high speed magnetic rail cars that are used to reach the hangars through an underground tunnel.

Sub Basement L-2
During the recent reconstruction of the Xavier Institute, new Shi'ar technology was installed in Sub-Basement Level Two. The majority of this level is devoted to the Danger Room facilities. The current Danger Room employs the Shi'ar's technology, including sophisticated holographic projectors. Virtually any environment can be duplicated within this new Danger Room. X-Men and New Mutants training there may be pitted against formidably opponents that are either actually holograms or highly advanced robots. This sub-basement also includes alternate living quarters and other facilities for use in emergencies.

Basement
For the most part, the first sub-surface level of the Xavier Institute serves the normal function of a basement - it contains the oil and water heaters, and is used for storing wine, furniture, books and other odds and ends floating about the mansion.

Grounds
Charles Xavier's estate covers an extensive area between Graymalkin Lane and Breakstone Lake. There is an Olympic-sized swimming pool directly to the rear of the mansion. Elsewhere on the property there are stables, a boathouse and a hedge maze. There are also two gardens, one Japanese and the other traditional colonial-American.

Breakstone Lake
A little ways from the mansion, but close to Scott and Jean's boathouse-turned-cabin, the lake is the perfect get-away from the mansion's racket and drama. Do beware when fooling around at the lake, since it's home to one of the X-Jets, stashed in the watery depths after they ran out of room in the main hanger.
