Okay cool, so I'm a newbie here and not nearly as obsessed with db as some people. This is my greatest power because it lets me view the series as whole impartially. And from what I've seen (episodes 1-269) the fight against Freeza was the highpoint of the series. Not only was it the most intense (I get the feeling someone said screw the martial arts half way through the fight) but it also makes sense. From the start of the series Goku is fighting for two things; to protect people and become the strongest in the Universe. By beating Freeza Goku accomplishes both those things. Yes the Cell Saga gives some symmetry, with Gohan taking over, but Freeza vs Goku was still the better fight.
