Should Dan have won Idol?, What's your opinion?

I'm just curious as to whether or not you guys think Dan should have won Autralian Idol 3 or not. In my opinion, he should have come second as opposed to winning because then he would have no freedom as an artist, because his album would be pre-written, and so forth. But that's just my opinion.

What do you think?

If winning Idol was purely based upon talent and connecting with the audience, Dan should have won hands down coz no-one else even came close to him. However in the real world, where the winner is basically "owned" by Sony BMG, winning idol would have been a huge injustice to Dan, because of the nature and style of his music, so for this reason I'm happy he didn't win, but would have loved to see him runner-up. He deserved so much more than 4th place! Kate was definitely the best person to win Idol, as she has benefited more from winning than any of the other top 4 would have, so for this reason, I voted "other" in the poll attached to this thread.

I've never actually looked at it from that perspective before, but after reading what you wrote, I have to say that I agree. It's interesting to hear other people's theories about this.

Yes I think he should have won BUT in the next series of Idol, when Sony had woken up to themselves & their controlling ways more.
Plus the fact of being able to play his guitar in the next series would have certainly given him a better showing.
I reckon he is great but having to perform without his trusty 'guitar' certainly showed unfortunately, especially in the first five or six rounds.
However, 20 20 hindsight is a marvellous thing isn't it!

I can't say that I agree totally with you, coz series 4 had a lot more original talent in it than series 3, and if Dan had been in series 4 then he may not have even got to 4th place. I personally think that series 3 should have had the same liberties that series 4 had, and then Dan would have gone better most likely.
