Ace Attorney Investigations 2 is not being released outside of Japan, for certain. This information has gotten buried in other topics, so many of you may not have noticed. Let's review what we know: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/13406869 At 29:45 in this video, the Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development at Capcom USA explicitly states that AAI2 is not being localized - therefore not being released. The statement was unusually low-key leading many to suspect that it was a tease for a surprise announcement to follow in the near future. http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/...igations_2?pg=3 However, earlier today, the aforementioned VP clarified his statement:
At this point it's effectively confirmed: AAI2 is staying Japan-only for the forseeable future. Needless to say plans for a fan-translation pack have already been put into motion. If they're not going to give us the opportunity to support the franchise directly... DeMat edit: Want to try to change Capcom US' mind? Sign the petition! Can't say that I didn't see this one coming, to be honest.

Like I said in the Captivate thread, the petition should come first, in my opinion.

Of course, it's understandable that the costs are important. But I've got a feeling about this: something's wrong in the Capcom department. This is the second time this month that they've had to make an announcement around this kind of thing.
But still, I guess it's understandable. -------------------- |

Amidst all this business of GK2 not getting localized in the foreseeable future, I'm honestly more interested in what this decision might say about other games. I sincerely hope that IF there ever is a GS5 (and I absolutely understand that very well may never happen), they won't come to a similar conclusion about the worthwhileness of localizing it. I honestly don't think they would, considering main series sales here are much better than GK sales.
As for Professor Layton VS Gyakuten Saiban, that's obviously still up in the air, but I'm pretty confident we'll get it eventually, simply because the Layton games sell MILLIONS. That, plus the sales to fans of Ace Attorney who don't buy Layton games, will equal HUGE success, so Capcom would be royally shooting itself in the foot by not wanting to localize. Bottom line, I don't believe their decision on GK2 will mean much for other Ace Attorney games. I mean, every other title in the series outsold GK here in the Americas, mostly by rather wide margins, so they may have concluded that GK is even more niche than the main series, if such a thing were possible. Like I've said before, it's just a publicity stunt.

With regards to PLvsAA, Chris Svensson has said on a few occasions that since Level-5 is handling the development of that, it's very likely they'll be handling the publishing as well, which means it'll be up to Level-5/Nintendo to decide if localizing it is worth it. Capcom doesn't have much say in it.

I'm not surprised either.
