Title: Beta/Unused Content
Description: Is there any, aside from what is listed?
The Lycanthrope Samurai - December 17, 2010 10:46 PM (GMT)
I'd wanted to post this on the actual forum, But it's been down so I'll see into starting it here. *cough*
I love to read about beta content/play with it. :ema:
(Thus TV Trope's Dummied Out page is one of my favorite places along with the Cutting Room Floor website)Soooo of course I'd want to know about any in the Ace Attorney series, Since it's currently in my Top 5 favorite game series.
So let's call this a collection thread, hopefully one that others will participate in.
Phoenix Wright: Ace AttorneyUnused Track 1:
[link]Unused Animation for Phoenix Wright:
[link]- Cartoony Hearts pulsate around Wright's Eyes.
Unused Damage Animation for Miles Edgeworth:
[link]- I don't recall Edgey ever having a Damage animation outside of court.
- I can think of a few places where it would work, So who knows why they didn't use it.
Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney: Justice For AllNone so far.Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney: Trials & TribulationsNone so far.Apollo Justice - Ace AttorneyUnused Track 1:
[listen] [url=][download(not yet)][/url]
- To be honest, It sounds kinda creepy. Reminds me of music from Clock Tower on SNES.
Unused Track 2:
[listen] [url=][download(not yet)][/url]
- Sounds similar to Unused Track 1, Less creepy though.
- According to Zinle-Reborn, A longer version of this is part of the 4-4 Prologue.
Unused Guitar Seranade on Piano:
[listen] [url=][download(not yet)][/url]
- No real comments, Only intangible ones are allowed.
Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles EdgeworthUnused Audio Track:
[link]- It sounds like something from Pokemon. Possibly a Route song. But this is AA, Not Pokemon.
- And it makes me wonder if it was used, Because I remember thinking that about a song near the beginning of the game.
Unused Colias Palaeno Frame:
[link]- Appears to be incomplete.
- Cropped out from a sprite sheet of him, hence green background.
Unused Water Park Area:(Spoilers)
[link]- Artwork only.
Unused Office(?):
[link]- I don't recognize this at all.
- Plus the Bottom Screen is strange. It looks like Security Camera footage and says "NO DATA".
- On second thought, That's possibly the "Touch Movement" controls.
Missing Case?:
[pictures]- I don't recognize this, And I've nearly finished Turnabout Ablaze.
- Anyone want to attempt translating the text?
== Update ==
According to Neni, There was to be a case set around the Wright Anything Agency.
Further images can be seen
here.
! Possible Spoiler Alert [/b]![/b]
==========
If anyone knows of anything else, Feel free to post.
I'll update this post with anything else anyone knows.

Apparently, the culprit is Gordon Freeman.
.... Excuse me. *dies from laughter*

Oh fun!
This is another unused Sprite from the first game:
.gif)
:miles:
And, about the missing case:
Yes, they really removed one case from AAI, and, surprise surprise, that case would have taken place under PHOENIX' OFFICES' WINDOW. (We know that, because the Map from Turnabout Corner showed up in beta images and the street between Wright&Co Law Offices and the Gatewater Hotel was marked.)
Jup. I guess that's also the reason they decided to remove it. Wanted to stay away from Wright. :nick:

LOL at the missing case. That was one of the first scans of GK1, and I just noticed that, that was nowhere in the game.

Ah, I saw that earlier but I wasn't sure if it was unused or not.
I wonder why they didn't use it, I can think of a few places where it would fit.
Anyway, Fascinating.
Things like Beta Music are nice, But it's Beta Storyline that I find really interesting.
Would you happen to have this map image?
Also, Off-topic, When does AAI occur in relation to AJ's "Seven Years Ago" bit?

The Beta Images I have are all to be found here:
http://aceattorney.wikia.com/wiki/Ace_Atto...Miles_EdgeworthAbout the Time-relation between AJ and AAI, AAI takes place pretty much exactly two months prior to Phoenix' disbarment. YES, I know, this is a cheap, cheap way to circumvent the Storyline trouble they could have run into, but it comes worse: AAI2 is taking place ONE month prior to the disbarment! Just less than one month after AAI! IT's like they were making those games "Disbarment Countdown!"
It's frustrating for me, because I, indeed, being the Nick fangirl I am, see a giant Countdown Clock a lá "Zelda: Majoras Mask" before my mental eye every time a date is given in AAI. I don't read "March 13th". I read "58 days till Nick's career is screwed".

Those were one of the first (if not the first) scans of GK. We mostly figured that they were actually just to test out and show off the new GK system, instead of being an actual case.
The water stadium is most likely/definitely left over from case 3; I guess they switched the location between concept and development.
And you can tell the screenshot from the office was reeeeeeeally old because the bottom screen is completely different from that in the final version.
Zinle-Reborn - December 18, 2010 12:35 AM (GMT)
There is this one track in GK that can be found from the rom of the game,
though it could be just a test track of somesort.
I'm not that sure to give the final verdict, but
here it is anyway.
May someon wiser tell is it a DS test track, or did we found another G.S unused song 2.0.
...Obviously refering to
this
GantStare - December 18, 2010 12:49 AM (GMT)
''One crime scene was indicated on a map that looked identical to the one used in Turnabout Corner to reveal the locations of the three minor crime scenes Apollo Justice was tasked to solve. The crime scene in question was shown to be located near the spot on which the Wright Anything Agency would have sat. This crime scene was cut from the game along with some other crime scenes that were shown over the course of the game's development.''
Anyone know why this was cancelled?

My guess is that it was more like an idea for pre release photos and to interest and give thrills to fans and the hardcore fans of the serie.
That or they realized that they'd might hawe to put Phoenix in the game too,
what would have been a bad idea.
DeMatador - December 18, 2010 05:55 AM (GMT)
Oh, this sounds cool.
PW:AA
-Unused track, the one Zinle linked to (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ30ZEsRBjU)
AJ:AA
-Two unused and probably incomplete tracks and one unused piano version of The Guitar Serenade, shortened. I don't know if anybody else noticed them before, but here they are:
Unused track 1,
Unused track 2,
Unused track 3 (Guitar Serenade Piano).
AAI:ME
-Unused "Won The Case"-ish theme, I dunno if it's the one Zinle posted (didn't download it, derp), I ripped it and uploaded it here:
Won The Case 2009. Also, as a note dash shameless plug, I edited it in FL Studio for my Investigations Meets Orchestra project, you can listen to it here:
Won the Case 2009 Orchestrated.
If anyone wants the .mid files, tell me, I'll MediaFire them.

Great finds!
The unused track from AA has always fascinated me. I tried to remix it in SoundFont, but failed... I dunno, the song kind of looses it's "Soul" if assigned more real instruments.
About the AJ songs, I dunno, but aren't that all just less complex versions of songs that are actually in the game? They probably just switched the sound-chip mid-development and Toshihiko had to recompose those. As for the Piano-Serenade, I somehow suspect that this version was supposed to play at the part were Lamiroir is revealed to be Thallasa. It just sounds so "Revelation Ballad"-ish...
The unused AAI Won Theme... I'm glad they changed this one. It's a good tune, yes, but it sounds like a hybrid of Pokemon and Final Fantasy Victory themes. Had they kept this, I wouldn't have been able to play the game without picturing a screen saying "Truth found! Edgeworth leveled up! Kay leveled up! Gumshoe... got his EXP cut!" at the end of every case. :nick:

Yeah, we both posted the same track,
so it seems that my post was success after all! <3
I don't remember hearing the first UuAJ song,
but the second one is definitely part of the 4-4 prologue, though it's made a bit longer.
And the third track is used also. In the video of Lamiroirs performance...Or somewhere else...
But it's used in 4-3.
EDIT: ...So basically what Neni said...
My bad. :miles:

There is no sound chip to swap. All the games uses the stock Nintendo SDAT sound system. You can look up the specifications online. And assuming that you have "obtained" a copy of the game, you can poke around in the SDAT and look for stuff yourself.
Talking about stuff in the rom, did you guys know that the pursuit track (from AJ) has two different intros? One short and one slightly longer.
I actually made a little tool to test it out. It is also one of the few tracks that is not sequenced, but sampled.
The other sampled track is guilty love. And strangely enough, they didn't save space by doing the loudspeaker version on the fly, they actually have that version stored separately.

Oh, I see. I have no idea about the inner workings of the DS and it's games, so excuse me. ^^;
Anyway, yes, I knew the song had two different intros (Don't all Pursuit themes, except the AAI one?), but I didn't know that it was sampled, rather than sequenced. This, of course, explains why I had so a hard time finding Midis of it or "Guilty Love". ^^;

Any other links?
Anywaaay. A lot more beta stuff then I though there would be.
I've tried looking in the Roms with Nitro Explorer, But I haven't a clue how to open some of the files. :/
Blah blah, Post updated.
You may notice a "Download" link on some audio tracks, It doesn't work just yet.
But it will soon... ...That is if linking a download to the audio is fine by the rules.

Jup. I guess that's also the reason they decided to remove it. Wanted to stay away from Wright. :nick: |
I don't think they ever were really going to make a real case around Phoenix's office, sadly, more like a tech demo to make the game engine or something. There's Shoe on a garbage can, and in the game he's on a barrel in the Wild Wild West, so maybe they put a new setting there instead, or maybe Shoe was just moved. I think something like the dolphin park would have been more than a tech demo though, I wish it had stayed.

I doubt that the case was merely for demo. Ace Attorney is heavily story based, they don't an just set up "Demo Levels" without writting a script for them first, and why let story go to waste? It's more likely that they only decided later not to go for this case/heavily alter it's setting for different reasons.
DeMatador - December 19, 2010 08:57 PM (GMT)
I'm more than sure that those screens where just part of Eshiro's concept pitch to Capcom. They are nothing like the actual game, and were made with 10% new content. They were most probably just there to demonstrate gameplay, and not story.
Just think about it: Gyakuten Kenji was an extremely risky idea, before we all realized how awesome it was. New producer, new gameplay, new art style, new focus... What if they had built an entire case (say, the one close to Wright & Co.), and Capcom rejected the concept? A lot of effort, time and money would have been invested... and they weren't willing to lose all that.
Well, at the very least we can hope some random interviewer to ask him about those screens. But I think we'll get an answer like this one. Or maybe not, I could be absolutely wrong, and it could have been an unused case idea.
And my guess is the dolphin park was concept art for The Kidnapped Turnabout.

Unused Track 1 in AJ is case 2 or 3 opening, try playing case 2 and 3 from the beginning and compare it to that.
Also Unused Track 2 is Case 4 where it's showing Kristoph Gavin after the PW trial and investigation with PW.
I may be wrong, but I know it was used, but it could be a beta version.

BigKlingy - July 17, 2011 04:02 AM (GMT)
I've been finding a few interesting bits and pieces in AAI2, for those interested. See
this thread for more detail.
In brief:
-Three Logic bits from Case 1. The first two have a 'deduction' script but no bubbles, while the third has just logic bubbles. The first two indicate the rain would originally be an important fact in the case. The third proves something that was so stupidly obvious even Gumshoe could've figured it out, no wonder it was cut.
-Winston Payne may have had a proper (i.e. sprite-view) conversation. Does anyone know if there's an unused Payne sprite hidden somewhere?
