Title: Case PO-11 DAY ONE
Description: Turnabout Punch-Out!!
Faint_of_heart - October 25, 2006 08:05 PM (GMT)
Cumsrund Goesround enters the courtroom with a rather smug look on his face, and smiles ans he sits at the prosecution desk. He twiddles his rose between his index finger and Thumb, and goes over his stradegy in his head.
"Mac is DONE," he thinks out loud "I will make sure of It"
The chatter in the courtroom dosen't bother him one bit. He's quite sure of himself. This will be his first case, and his first Guilty verdict.
P.Wright @ Wright Law Offices - October 25, 2006 08:39 PM (GMT)
Defence Lobby.
" Sure, gotchya...I'll be careful. Nice to hear the concern, sir. The Firm's reputation is in safe hands... "
James Gunn puts the phone away after hanging up, and gives a brisk, sharp sigh of frustration. He'd been 'reminded' of the firms presence throughout these proceedings, and that he was the one who would be seen for the duration of the court sessions.
Gaaah...all that, and the fact his case was looking SERIOUSLY handicapped by the sheer measure of witnesses and facts that weighed serious bias against his client.
With a quick glimpse into his files, he straightens his tie and glares at the courtroom doors.
" Guess it's Showtime... " He mutters - and enters the courtroom, feeling confident that he WILL prevail over whatever adversity lay within.
Gumshoe - October 25, 2006 09:57 PM (GMT)
Leon strolls in to the courtroom and sits down on the judge's thrown.
"Sup 'yall. Court's in session ....NOW! Haha, lets get goin'. Is the defense ready?"
Mitsurugi Reiji - October 25, 2006 10:00 PM (GMT)
Watching from a distance Aly half listened to the conversation James was having with the one on the other end of the phone. She gave a sudden sigh, hoping that the proceedings wouldn't be as bad as anticipated. Nibbling on her lower lip she straightened up, forcing a front of confidence as she moved to walk into the courtroom alongside him.
Setting her hand on his forearm she harbored a smile, trying to ease the tensions. "You've got this." She chimed in, giving a wink as she moved to the defence's side of the coutroom.
Faint_of_heart - October 25, 2006 10:04 PM (GMT)
Goesround turned to face his opponent, and could feel his heart skip a beat as he looked, shocked, at his opponent.
"Gunn." he said to himself, trying to sound less nervous than he was. This man had five victories allready, and he was just starting prosecution. "Oh well," he thought to himeslf, "The evidence is in MY favor."
Cumsrund twiddled his rose faster now, and spoke to his opponent as he took the defence stand.
" Why, hello... Name's cumsrund Goesrund."
Alright, now to lay the heat down. He concluded his statement, pointing his rose at the attorney.
" This will be great for my reputaition. Right off the bat, beating someone with so many wins."
Cumsrund smirked.
" I don't know what prosecutors you've been up against in the past, but I don't play games. It will be my pleasure to take you out."
Cumsrund knew he had laid down enough snappy remarks. He leaned back, continuing to wave his rose at the defence attorney, his smirk growing wider.
P.Wright @ Wright Law Offices - October 25, 2006 10:22 PM (GMT)
" Huh...Wha'? "
He was barely aware of Cumsround, as he focused more on his upholding of the firm's status as being one of the more reliable Offices in the city. A high profile case like this would get MASSIVE coverage for the firm, and Gunn's Position was the pivotal point as to what the focus of it would be.
He just shoots the Prosecutor a somewhat 'meh' expression - outwardly, it would seem like a confident air of somebody who had a plan all figured out...but inwardly, it was probably the reverse.
James looks at his Assistant, and stretches a l'il - twiddling his thumbs just a l'il as he did so.
" Yeah, you're right - no time to get Doubting Thomas syndrome...this is SO in the bag, it's not even funny. "
He sure hoped he looked convincing - there wasn't much to go on for the defence as it was.
" Yeah, we're good to go, Your honour. " He comments, knowing that the game was on.
Faint_of_heart - October 25, 2006 10:39 PM (GMT)
"G-Gah-!"
Cumsrund was surpprised of this not caring reaction to his comments.
"Hemph, The prosecution is ready, your honor."
Cumsrund's eyes were on the judge, but his rose pointed twoards Gunn the whole time.
Mitsurugi Reiji - October 25, 2006 10:41 PM (GMT)
Nodding her head Aly gave James a thumbs up, feigning a smile. "Of course." Turning away from him she breathed out another sigh, wondering if was truly as confident as he had seemed. Doubtful ... >>
Faint_of_heart - October 25, 2006 10:46 PM (GMT)
*OOC: you guys chat for a while, I gotta type up drunkinski's testimony...*
Mr. Lawsuit - October 25, 2006 10:47 PM (GMT)
[[I hate to say it, but the kibosh may be put on my net access in about a half hour... if I don't get much time later, can I testify tomorrow?]]
Faint_of_heart - October 25, 2006 10:50 PM (GMT)
[[SURE!]]
Ps. Gumshoe, after you ask for opening statements, call mac first.
P.Wright @ Wright Law Offices - October 25, 2006 10:53 PM (GMT)
James looked over at the rose, with an odd expression...what the heck was the deal with this guy anyway?
Did he think he was some kinda romantacist or somthing? It was just, well...creepy.
At any rate, the Defence attorney exhaled sharply - the future of his client and his career was on the line.
Failure was just NOT an option, so he decided to stay silent momentarily until the judge got to the opening statements.
Wait...Opening STATEMENT???!?!?
What was it? ...his mind reeled in shock after realising he hadn't remembered it.
God, to get to that point and stammer helplessly looking like a real moron would NOT help his...*pause* Oh, wait, there it was.
He lets out a subtle sigh of relief, as he reaches into his pocket and pulls out the folded paper to give it one last lookover for anything that might look out of place.
Mitsurugi Reiji - October 25, 2006 11:06 PM (GMT)
"James. Psst. James." Grasping his shoulder she gave a sound yank, pulling him down only slightly as she began whispering to him. "Uhm, does he uh .. like you? What is with the rose?" Furrowing her brow her eyes darted in the prosecution's direction.
Shifting her attention she rested her side against the far end of the desk. Fiddling with the ends of her hair she smiled, watching as James stumbled through his thoughts to recollect the opening statement he had made. "Something wrong, .. you aren't nervous are you ..?"
P.Wright @ Wright Law Offices - October 25, 2006 11:19 PM (GMT)
" He does LOOK the type, that guy. "
James just looks at her, and grins weakly...puttin' a hand to the back of his head, feigning a look of confidence.
" Anyway - heh, ya know...trials are always unpredictable, so it's hard to stay 100% on top of it. "
To be honest, he wasn't terrified - but he wasn't entirely sure if his case was watertight enough to get past anyone right now. He could only really hope the prosecution would accidentally throw him a bone or two over the next couple of hours, maybe days.
He especially wasn't looking forward to dealing with the 'supposedly drunken' witness - credibility was hard to keep around when dealing with somebody who enjoyed drinking so readily...at least, that's what the profile summary had given him of the person's identity.
His wincing expression almost gave away his thoughts, however...so he catches himself quickly enough to make it look like a brief moment of concentrated focus.
Bleh - the starts of a trial were the worst parts, in his opinion...
Faint_of_heart - October 25, 2006 11:25 PM (GMT)
[The judge isn't here, so I'll just open my statement.... uh...]
Cumsrund was prepared for nearly everything, and had a solid opening statement prepared. He just had to remember "The evidence is on his side"
"your honor, having a celeberty case as my first prosecution does not phase me one bit. Little Mac was obviously upset... enraged.... about losing his tiltle to Don Flamenco. It's a shame how far the sick and twisted will go."
Placing his elbow on the desk, he let his shirt sleeve slide down, reveakling how discolored and artificial one of his hands were.
""little" Mac is as guilty as any other criminal. We have evidence and witness accounts... FOUR witness accounts against him. I see not the point in this trial. Either way, Blood as red as this rose was spilled, from Flamenco's head, by Mac's hands. Unless...."
Cumsrund shook his rose ferociously at the defence attorney and his partner
"The DEFENCE has any "objections.""
The smug look on Cumsrunds face made it obvious that he was planning something... but what?
P.Wright @ Wright Law Offices - October 26, 2006 01:01 AM (GMT)
James put down the paper, and took a swill of the glass of water before him...
" Your honour, the defence wishes to make a note of the following points...FIRST - The 'witnesses' as they like to refer to themselves, say they saw the client with the body. "
James gives the prosecutor a confident smile.
" Even our Flower lovin' Prosecutor should realise that testimony like that is shaky at best - they DIDN'T see the killing blow, and that in itself raise questions as to their credibility. Heck, one of them is a self-confessed Alchaholic...is HIS testimony solid, or has nobody asked him how many shots HE got down on that night before he saw anything? "
The crowd begin to murmer, as James speaks again - not letting up on his offence.
" I also would like to draw everyone's attention to the statue. I see a problem you all need to pick up on!"
He picks up a photo of the Broken trophy, and points at the broken head...
" Just why is it broken both ends, when the killing obviously occured via the base. These things can take a l'il punishment when falling over, and I can't remember seeing a trophy head just FALL off due to trauma caused underneath, unless someone is being REALLY careless. "
He grins, looking over at the Prosecutor. " The obvious grip-point is from the middle of the statues body, and the swing is most likely to wind up with the base being the main factor of trauma. So WHERE does that leave the head? I'll tell you."
{ James slams a hand on the table, and beams a wide smile. }
" The head of this trophy fell OFF when my CLIENT WAS HIT by the wrong end in the Murderers panic!!! "
the crowd's murmer reaches into an almighty roar, as he smirked to his assistant with pride.
This attack on the prosecutions claims would at least cause room for doubt in the prosecutions claim, and would at least allow him a little wriggle room to get off to a good start.
At least, that was the plan...
Gumshoe - October 26, 2006 01:09 AM (GMT)
"Okay everybody, settle down. I've got a court to run here, and I want everyone to be heard.
An interesting start nonetheless Mr. Gunn, but you seem to be getting ahead of yourself.
Anyway, lets keep it movin'. The Prosecution may call its first witness."
Mitsurugi Reiji - October 26, 2006 03:01 AM (GMT)
Why on Earth does he have that rose with him ..? I wonder if it symbolizes something. Eh, ... this is going to bother me the entire -- Aly blinked as Cumsrund began giving his opening statement, the young woman folding her arms just beneath her breasts; a frown easing its way across her face. She didn't buy, and hopefully the judge didn't either -- especially since James had done quite a bit of research before this.
Aly was a bit cocky but what did it matter, she was confident that James' client was innocent and if possible she would help to prove such. Snickering, she listened as James began his opening statement. Occasionally nodding her head she couldn't help but crack a smile as the murmuring within the courtroom grew. It was obvious he had caused some sort of a stir, ... hopefully one in their favor. "Nice one, James. Just listen to the buzz in the courtroom."
Gumshoe - October 26, 2006 03:20 AM (GMT)
( I gotta go, I'll be on tomorrow after school, around four-ish EST. )
"The prosecution may call its witness, and when he has finished testifying, the defense may cross-examine. I think I'll just take a nap...."
Leon laid his head down and promptly fell asleep.
Faint_of_heart - October 26, 2006 11:50 AM (GMT)
"Very well."
said Cumsrund with a smug look on his face.
"If mr. Gunn is so sure of himself... . I wish for Little Mac to testify on what "really" happened, as if we doan't allready know."
Cumsrund gave one last witty remark
"Uppercuts won't help you now."
P.Wright @ Wright Law Offices - October 26, 2006 01:24 PM (GMT)
Prosections witness - Time for some Testimony sifting, Gunn thought for a second.
He shrugs again, and looked at Aly for a moment...
" Guess we'll just have to keep our ears open for something that doesn't fit. "
He wasn't overly certain that there was going to be something groundbreaking to be had here, but there wasn't any reason to discount it entirely as a chance to weaken the prosecutions stance some more.
...That was, of course, if he could focus on it enough to catch something.
James waited to see where this was going to lead.
Gumshoe - October 26, 2006 08:23 PM (GMT)
Leon woke up just to hear the defense muttering to himself.
"Mr. Gunn, I don't think muttering to yourself will help your case. Anyway, let's keep on rollin'. Where is the defendant?"
((Does Madfoot even know he's the defendant?))
Faint_of_heart - October 26, 2006 09:55 PM (GMT)
[[I PM'd him, so I susppose so.]]
Madfoot713 - October 26, 2006 10:05 PM (GMT)
((Sorry, I was- and still am- in the middle of my homework. I didn't notice I was called, either. ;_; Anyway, I'll just have him come in, and I'll do the testimony in a couple hours. Sorry.))
Mac woke up just in time to hear everyone talking about him. "Hold ya' horses, I'm comin'," he said. He walked up to the stand and yawned. "I'm Mac, y'want me to testify?"
Faint_of_heart - October 26, 2006 10:36 PM (GMT)
"Yes... That would be nice"
Cumsrund didn't exactly appreciate Mac's attitude... it seemed too.... not care-y.
"Please try to squiggle your way out of this situation.
Gumshoe - October 26, 2006 10:45 PM (GMT)
"Ah, there he is. I didn't notice him. Anyway, continue with your testimony Mr. Mac."
Poltergust - October 26, 2006 11:22 PM (GMT)
*enters the courtroom and sits in the crowd*
(*phew* Made it just on time. It's hard to attend two trials at once. Now for the defendant's testimony...)
Gumshoe - October 27, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
Leon looked up to find one spectator, along with the jury.
(hm, Not too big of a crowd, maybe it'll pick up as this trial really gets moving)
P.Wright @ Wright Law Offices - October 27, 2006 09:20 AM (GMT)
{{ I might be unavailable until Monday 'cause of something I was invited to. Oo; Bare that in mind, and if I can't pop in by the end of today/Early tomorrow, could ya slow responses down at least 'til I get back? ^^;;; KThaxBye, heh }}
Madfoot713 - October 30, 2006 10:06 PM (GMT)
[Fuck Copy+paste]
Mac shook his head a bit nervously, feeling the prosecutor's cold glare. "Yes...," he said, "as for what happened...
- Well... You see, after my match, I went to get my trophy from the locker room.
- I went in and saw someone stuffing poor Flamenco being stuffed into one of the lockers!
- He looked at me and seemed to panic, putting his hand up and running out of the room.
- I looked back towards the open locker and noticed a blood-stained, broken trophy on the ground near it.
- Finally, before I could go get help, I noticed some of the guys came in afterwards, apparantly hearing the whole mess."
He looked up grimmly. "Well, I guess somebody's gonna question me or somethin'?"
Gumshoe - October 30, 2006 10:21 PM (GMT)
Leon looked up from examining his gavel.
"Ah, you're done. Mr. Gunn, you may proceed with your cross examination."
((If Wright still isn't here, then Mitsurugi can go ahead and do the C.E.))
Mitsurugi Reiji - October 31, 2006 09:26 PM (GMT)
Aly began to fidgit alongside the attorney as she listened to the testinmony, a sudden sigh passing her lips as she looked up to him. "Well, looks like this is it .. no?" He spoke softly, eyes wandering to the prosecutor that stood adjacent from them. "Time to expose the lies, and find those contradictions." She snickered, folding her arms over her chest.
[ When was he suppose to come back? ]
Gumshoe - October 31, 2006 09:28 PM (GMT)
(I think he said Monday, but he doesn't seem to be here. so you can go ahead.)
Mitsurugi Reiji - October 31, 2006 09:34 PM (GMT)
[ I don't have any of the evidence or anything thought. Ie. An autopsy report -- or you know, things of that nature. >> I could only press the witness and I suppose ask questions unless that's alright. ]
Gumshoe - October 31, 2006 09:35 PM (GMT)
(Hm. odd that FoH never sent you the evidence.
I dunno, maybe? You can at least ask questions, and if evidence is required we can put it on pause or something.)
P.Wright @ Wright Law Offices - November 1, 2006 01:44 PM (GMT)
{{ Miscalculation of facts - I'm back now...this week has been a...unique experiance of sorts. >>;;
The defence's questioning will begin as soon as I can muster some mental strength to write a reply, heh heh. }}
Faint_of_heart - November 1, 2006 11:05 PM (GMT)
:objection:
Mr. Mac, Who exactly is this... someone?
Gumshoe - November 1, 2006 11:18 PM (GMT)
"This is YOUR witness, Mr. Goesrund. It's not really your place to object to him.
Overruled."
Poltergust - November 2, 2006 02:16 AM (GMT)
Mitsurugi Reiji - November 2, 2006 03:16 AM (GMT)
"Someone. Hm. If this someone had turned to him and looked at him, wouldn't he know who it is. I mean -- if they made eye contact and everything he should have seen a face." She frowned somewhat, tapping her fingers upon her chin with a sigh.
