I was impressed by this version of the song. I thought some of you might like it.

I have seen this version before. Excellent. Very well done. Both in the choir direction, the performance and the graffics.

I take issue with two things. First, those kids have no idea what those words mean. Second, we should have been done with those faux-fancy fonts 10 years ago.

Unless you were in on every minute of every rehearsal, you have no idea whether or not the director made the performers aware of the meaning of the lyrics, and to what extent.

I'm surprised at two things. One being that a public school was able to get away with such overtly religious imagery. And two being that a performance of that level of planning was recorded on such a grossly out of tune piano. :blink:

But I appreciate that classic songs of our cultural heritage are still being taught at all. The song itself belongs in regular music curricula for cultural significance, but even as a conservative Christian, I think some of the religious images in the graphics was over the line of what should be allowed in a public school.

Actually the graphics were added by a father of one of the students for the web site. My understanding is the graphics were not shown at the school. But hey I could be wrong.

There's nothing fucking patriotic about being Christian! It may come as a surprise to all of you, but this is not the United Jesus States of America. The sight of the American flag with a big Jesus was silly.

I'm glad to hear the graphics were not used as part of a public school production, but the "cultural significance" excuse is bullshit. There aren't ceremonies where the black kids have to sit outside, you know, for "cultural significance" or the women silenced or made to sit in the back for "cultural significance". We don't celebrate one group at the expense of others because that's the way it was for a long time, you know, "cultural significance". Bullshit.

This must be examples of that "real America" Palin has been going on about, the fuck people who aren't like us America. Yup, that's patriotic. Uh huh. Glory, glory alright. :rolleyes:

Don't conflate the sentiments of "God Bless America" and "negroes in the back" just because you don't personally agree with either. Your analogy makes precious little sense. That video was undoubtedly pro-Christian, but pro-Christian isn't inherently anti-not-Christian.

And Im sure you thought your answer and response to the video WAS fucking patriotic.

Well guess what PhillyChief. It was. It was your opinion and you are free to have it.

Just as the man who made the video is allowed to have his. The only difference between the two is. He spent the time and effort to create something he felt strongly about. He then shared it with the world.

All you did was put it down, cuss it out and call it bullshit. You did nuthing creative. And you have nothing to show for it. Your response just shows you are insecure with your beliefs and feel the need to tarnish the efforts of another. Sounds like your jealous of his security in his beliefs.

And thats my opinion which I have a right to also.

Have a nice day and God bless. :teeth:

Here's what you're missing, this is not just a celebration of a particular religion (a fact alone enough to be troublesome for a public school function) but rather an affirmation that to be of one particular religion is necessary to be American. What does this asshat state right upfront? He equates kids singing a Christian song with patriotism. Explain to me how this is in any way different than basing patriotism or being a "real American" on the color of one's skin for instance.

Hey, why not celebrate the "cultural significance" of this nation being founded with blacks being worth 3/5 a whitey?

This clown can make his video and I'm free to mock it. You're right, HG. It's the public school part that bothers me. Imagine for a moment your precious little snowflake either having to sing or having to listen to a pretty song about how Allah is the only way, Shiva is the might behind America or that America is great because it's godless. Pretty obnoxious, right? Would it be less obnoxious because those songs have been sung for decades? Does "cultural significance" magically erase obnoxiousness? Why do the atheist, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, or whatever non-Christian kids have to sit through this uncomfortably being reminded not just that they're different, but that such a difference makes them less patriotic and potentially not "real Americans"? What, so all you folk in the majority can feel even better about yourselves at their expense? Yup, that's mighty American of ya. Real patriotic.

Oh and HG, here's someone's creativity on display. If you simply criticize it and don't do anything creative in response, would that be evidence that you're " insecure with your beliefs" which prompts you to "tarnish the efforts of another"? Just curious, wiener. Nice argument. Really works well. Try again.

But hey, if you think creativity is necessary to have the right to point out a wrong...

Mine eyes have seen the glory of a nation of the world
Which sits as a shining city upon the hill for all to behold;
Where protecting the rights of all just never will grow old:
America marches on.

Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
America marches on.

I have seen it in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps,
Varied faces gathered strong despite the dews and damps;
A united strength which shines beyond the dim of any lamps:
America marches on.

Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
America marches on.

I have read a fiery gospel whose promises are real:
Of a land where no one to another can be made to kneel;
Where from many one united nation is forged as hard as steel:
America marches on.

Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
America marches on.

It sounds forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
Equal rights for all and all are welcome to a seat:
Where together we stand to tackle any problem which we meet:
America marches on.

Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
America marches on.

In the beauty of diversity America doth shine,
With a glory nowhere else on Earth can you ever find;
This melting pot of ours must surely be a sign:
America marches on.

Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
America marches on.

It shines across the world like the morning on the wave;
Its might is there from wisdom, a wisdom which won't cave,
To hatreds and insecurities of the ignorantly depraved.
America marches on.

Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
Glory, glory A-mer-i-ca!
America marches on.

Ok I am the one who posted the link. I am not a christian. I am a agnostic. It was not meant to be a political statement. I remember that song from my childhood and thought this version was nicely done. To me it was the way the song was arranged and performed. Yes I grew up in a hell fire and damnation kind of family. I have family members that will not speak to me because I do not follow the tratitional christian beliefs. I have attended many different religious services from krishna, to the bagwan ranish(sp). I have chanted with the buddists I have studied with the jewish and am currently reading the koran. I believe everyone has the right to worship as they please. Everyone would be the key word their. Part of the problem with most religions is no toleration for other religions. Even in christiantity certain sects believe others are wrong. I grew up southern babtist I was brought up to believe that catholics are members of a cult and in no way are christians. I do not believe that now.
