Have you ever seen a celebrity that other people think is physically attractive and you just don't see it yourself?

Or, maybe you agree the person is attractive, but they're not as hot as they're presented as by the media?

I think I'll start this list off with Jayne Mansfield.

Jayne ripped off Marilyn Monroe all the time.

Mansfield posed for hundreds of glamor photos where she's made up perfectly, in beautiful gowns, great lighting - but despite all that, the woman had an unattractive face.

Christina Aguilera is considered beautfiul but there is something wrong with her face and all that fake tan/make up/red lipstick obsession she has makes me want to throw up!

Also Gisele Bundchen is considered one of the most beautiful supermodel ever but she is far from it in my opinion!
She has very tough facial features which gives the impression she's not a a nice person. Plus she has been hyped as a curvy sex symbol when even I, as a men, have more curve than this girl!

I almost mentioned Christina Aguilera in my first post. I agree with you about her.

I cannot stand how she tried to look like Marilyn Monroe.

Aguilera is too "harsh" looking to make a good Marilyn - click here, specifically this photo (Aguilera looks like a pig in this; I mean, literally. Her nose looks like a pig snout!)

Other names I'd include in this thread are Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, and Brad Pitt.

It's always been a pet peeve of mine when Madison Ave. and Hollywood keep implying I should feel bad if I don't look exactly like 'such and such' a celebrity when I personally think that the celebrity they're raving about isn't very attractive.

Angelina Jolie reminds me of a cat fish, but she's touted in the media as being Miss Hot Thing. Honestly, I'm glad I do not look like Jolie.

I do not think that Brad Pitt is ugly -but- he doesn't make me go weak in the knees, either. But the media continue to hold him up as though he is the Ideal Male Specimen.

I think we can make a parralelism between Mansfield (you mentionned her in your first post) and Aguilera.

Basically Jayne was a trashy and raunchy version of Marylin (I'm not an expert on Marylin but that's what you said so I believe you) so Christina ends up looking like a BAD Jayne Mansfield lookalike which was already a bad Marylin copycat.

I think all that ripoff has come full circle now! wink.gif

Also brings to mind people who have nice, fit, attractive bodies but ugly faces. There used to be a slang term for that, I've forgotten what it is.

Not that I think Mansfield had a nice body. Her breasts were freakishly huge, and they drooped.

The term is "butterface". (As in, "she has a nice body... but her face...")

I don't think Christina has a good body at all...
Her fake boobs are too massive and she doesn't have a curvy/feminine body which is why she always wears very tight clothes to give the illusion of hips.
I know it's not her fault if her body looks like that but I think it's unfair to praise her body where as it's not very authentic/feminine.

Some people go on an on about how attractive Jolie is, but I don't agree. In this photo especially, she looks dreadful:

I know - Christina has really small shoulders, and her fake, badly done boobs make them look even smaller. I also really hate the white hair she sports. It makes her look too old.

Man victoria beckham is scary looking...seriously why can't stars have normal faces? I get the american public LOVES to make fun of the stars who don't get the fake tits, booty implants and have their faces cut up (because people these days are hypocritical and nasty, i mean have they looked at all the ugly things about themselves?) but be stronger. Resist the urge to look like Frankenplasticmonster!

Really, that's your impression of Americans on the matter?

As an American, my view is that most Americans reserve their ridicule for botched procedures.

We also point out physical flaws in both the 'naturals' and 'fakes' mainly, because, I think, it's a rebellion against the media constantly implying or outright saying that we all have to look a certain way.

Not everyone has a "Barbie doll" body yet the media (as in Madison Ave, those who sell the beauty products) pressure us to, make us feel bad if we don't, so when the Enquirer publishes photos of cellulite on Britney Spears' thighs, we chuckle.

In the photo I pasted in of Christina A. in the white blouse - I thought she was wearing way to much make up there, which makes her look like a clown2.gif

Beauty is a subjective thing. People don't seem to look at it subjectively anymore though. They really and truly believe there is some objective standard. Go to your local singles bar and watch how nasty they are to each other. No really, do it! I see it all the time, people have no respect for each other these days. I don't think most of the women the media flaunts are very good looking because i can see where they've been operated on. The media constantly harps on women for getting surgery yet constantly harps on women who have natural features (i.e. big noses, pudgy faces, small boobs, naturally larger then other women). See the issue? You can't win either way.

More proof that A. Jolie isn't the hotness that the media make her out to be:

This photo in particular scares me-

Nice legs, shame about the face - Angelina Jolie reveals her stunning legs... and her razor-sharp cheekbones
Angelina Jolie emerged from the seclusion of her hectic family life as she graced the red carpet at the Critics Choice Awards with partner Brad Pitt.

Angelina revealed her coltish limbs in a slashed to the thigh, oyster white goddess gown.

But worryingly the actress's skin looked tightly stretched taut across her face, unveiling a pair of razor-sharp cheekbones.

Angelina, 33, and Brad, 45, arrived together at the ceremony which was held at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.

But although groomed to within an inch of her life with perfectly applied make-up, and a stunning gown, it couldn't hide the fact that six months after the birth of her twins she has lost even more weight from her already slim frame.

The couple left their six children at home as they enjoyed a night out at the star-studded event where they were both nominated for awards.

And they proved to be the biggest draw of the night, with celebrities and fans craning to get a view of the couple in the theatre's auditorium.

Just today I saw some movie of Aishwarya Rai (2005), same thing, for a moment I thought I was looking at madoona with botox, it was a horrible experience.

One shot from the movie was a profile which looked so bad, I wonder how they even got to be beauty queens.
And the guy who married her, I wonder if he only married her for the bod or for the name?
Or did she con him into marrying her. confused.gif

I've recently been starting to get into Bollywood cinema, so there's definitely some I like and some I dislike.

I agree with you about Aishwarya. She does not strike me as pretty, although the things I've heard about her have played a part. If you look at her facial expressions, she doesn't really seem like a nice person underneath it all. Nor is she that great of an actress.

On the other hand, I much prefer Shilpa Shetty. I've had respect for her ever since she held her own with the bitchy Jade Goody on Celebrity Big Brother. She seemed like a lovely person throughout and emerged from the BB house with her dignity still intact. And she kept her dignity even after the (completely unwarranted) controversy of Richard Gere kissing her at an AIDS function. She's also well-spoken, tall and statuesque, has a great body and is a terrific dancer. I've yet to really see how good she is as an actress, though. Life in a Metro is definitely on my list of movies to get, if I can find a version with English subtitles.

The jury's still out on Shilpa's sister, Shamita, though. She's rather pretty but so far has seemed to me like a total ditz. Particularly after she pulled a Britney (ie. flashed her naughty bits while attending some function or other). AFAIK, it could very well be that her looks -- and being Shilpa's kid sister -- is the only thing Shamita's actually got going for herself.

I spent most of my life out of India not really into Bollywood movies because most of the movies are rather silly, with strange stories, but rarely some are good. Then there are the regional movies which we prefer to watch according to our mother tongue and dialect not associated with Bollywood.

I am not a "Hindi" speaking Indian which Bollywood's language is associated with only. Bollywood tends to reach out to the international audience of all the Indian movie industry.

I am not into Shilpa either, she was just a side kick actress doing minor roles, originally doing sleazy dance routines similar or almost like Sherawat. She did manage some good roles, but not to my appeal.

Maybe she did get her fame from BB, but that doesn't make her any exceptional.
BB is not a show where they produce superstars, it's rather a show that takes has beens or people who tried to make it or people who made it in the past. That doesn't justify Shilpa being a big star just because she won BB. Its a reality show who people vote in for.

I didn't really care for what Goody did nor do I like her either, but I think she was right when she called Shilpa a "Princess". Shilpa was given an appropriate name with all her servants and her rich lifestyle, such people are stuck up.
What you can't even dump your own clothes into the washing machine? That's the point,
servants for each and every household task in her house? How pathetic?
She may be a celebrity overseas only.

Indians are itself racist to themselves with their own divisions, that's the society. Sheti's people are racist themselves that I know of,
they discriminate people also in their own society. Anyways that's a big and different issue that can't really be discussed here, it would take ages to tell about. We know about them and really don't care what has happened.

Even a Sheti would discriminate me if I were to walk in their society, had very good experiences of my own.
They migrate from Karnataka to Maharastra (Mumbai)where I am from and then they say on your face we hate Maharashtrians and their languages. That's how it is.
They are Dravidian in race and I am Aryan, like that. (Germanic Vs Indian Negro).

Its like, for example ,Irishmen migrated to England ,
Or Frenchman in London in the 1600's, or a Negro in South Africa before the abolition of apartheid.
Or chinese migrating to Japan?
it doesn't work, does it?
How about Iraq/Iran from the 80's.

Yes maybe she looks fine now, Shilpa had undergone a makeover and does look better then she use to. The BB people in UK must have given her a new look. She had frizzy hair without hair straightener and wore hideous makeup like red lipstick before with silly looking clothes.

As for "Metro" I saw it and did a mistake, its a sucky movie about call center workers and their sexual affairs, blown out of proportion, its ridiculous and silly.
Its a movie about sex sleaze people in Mumbai, people who have migrated from other states, not the locals, I am a local and certainly don't behave like that. The movie is only popular for its songs nothing else. I didn't like it anyways maybe your opinion may differ depending on the way you take the movie.

One Aishwarya movie called "Hum dil dey chuke sanam" is good, for its story and the Actor Ajay Devgan only, not the other actors. That's a good one. You can be a judge yourself. Its directed properly and story teaches a lesson with good scenery and locations. Shot in Italy.

Then this movie I will give a link from youtube: Khiladi 1992 (translated-Sportsman)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAl1UR0LHVA...re=channel_page

Is good one, the image is not clear but it has english subtitles.

"Munnabhai " The first one, is a good one too, they are making an english version of it anyways, I am not sure it was in the news.
Its about how an underworld mafia gang leader who enters the world of medicine to be a doctor and changes the whole orientation of the hospital. Serious comedy.
