Cameron Diaz and Julia Roberts look like 'homeless bag ladies' compared with Hollywood stars of the past, fashion guru Garavani Valentino has claimed.

The actresses are often seen slobbing it in tracksuit bottoms and T-shirts - something Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor would never do, the Italian designer said.

"Today, you see Julia and Cameron running around looking unkempt in jogging trousers," he sneered.

Fiona Apple's New Record - New Yorker
...Sony is releasing the album this week, and, as Apple has made clear in interviews, she, not the label, was responsible for the delay.

Chewbacca Becomes American Citizen
    Posted 10/17/2005 5:31 PM Updated 10/17/2005 5:39 PM

'Star Wars' actor becomes U.S. citizen
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Best known as the furry Chewbacca, 7-foot-3 British actor Peter Mayhew is now a naturalized American. Mayhew softly recited the oath to become a U.S. citizen Monday, with his raised right hand trembling slightly.

He was among more than 450 people from 56 countries who became naturalized Americans in a ceremony in Arlington.

"I'll have a British passport, an American passport and a Wookiee passport," joked Mayhew, alluding to the interplanetary traveler from Kashyyyk he played.

...The former English hospital worker said he decided to seek American citizenship when he got married "to a Texan lady." Mayhew and his wife wed six years ago. His wife, Angelique, was beside him, with a drawing depicting Chewbacca, a background of the American flag and Union Jack and the words "Citizen Wookiee."

"Well it was a natural thing being married to a Texan," said Mayhew, wearing black slacks and jacket. "I wanted to become an American because Texas is an integral part of America, its lifestyle."

...Mayhew was born in Barnes, England, and now lives in Granbury, Texas, west of Dallas-Fort Worth. He makes appearances at science fiction conventions around the country.

His film career was launched in 1977 as the role of the Minotaur in Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. He had been working as an orderly at London's King's College Hospital when he was featured in a newspaper article about men with large feet, which caught the eye of the movie's producers.

Mr Sulu from Star Trek TV Show Comes Out
    by Joal Ryan
    Oct 28, 2005, 11:40 AM PT

"You know, it's not really coming out," Takei says in the Nov. 22 issue of the Los Angeles-based gay and lesbian magazine Frontiers (www.FrontiersPublishing.com). "It's more like a long, long walk through what began as a narrow corridor that starts to widen."

In the interview, Takei, forever Mr. Sulu of the U.S.S. Enterprise, notes that he has been "open" about his homosexuality for years--to family, and to friends. "But I have not talked to the press," he says. "In that sense, maybe that's another opening of the corridor there."

Gwen Stefani Announces Pregnancy
    Dec. 22, 2005
NEW YORK - Gwen Stefani announced that she’s pregnant at a concert in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., on Wednesday evening, People magazine reported on its Web site.

“I want you to say it loud enough so the baby hears it,” the 36-year-old pop star shouted during a sing-along of her song “Crash.”

The baby is reportedly due in June.

It will be the first child for Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, 38, who were married three years ago. Rossdale, who fronted the rock band Bush, has a 16-year-old daughter with fashion designer Pearl Lowe.

I'm surprised Gwen is going through with this after Rossdale supposedly lied to her about ever having had sex with Ms Lowe. He's also said to be bisexual.

"The actresses are often seen slobbing it in tracksuit bottoms and T-shirts - something Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor would never do, the Italian designer said."

Except that Marilyn Monroe and Liz Taylor wouldn't be wearing Juicy Couture tracksuits that cost hundreds of dollars, and the t-shirts from Juicy are outrageously priced as well. I love John Taylor and all, but his wife makes me nauseated with these clothes (Gela Nash-Taylor is his wife, and John is the bassist for my favorite group, Duran Duran). I wouldn't be caught DEAD in any of the clothes she sells. If tacky clothing sells that well, Madame Duran and I need to go into business together and buy tasteless sweats from Walmart to resell to these nimrods.

~ More celeb news at bottom of this post ~

1NF, your post - he covered La Isla Bonita? At last, something funnier than that bad hair of his. laugh.gif

Maddy- Hater -

I didn't know any of Duran Duran's band members' wives were fashion designers.

It's true, though, that some of these famous clothing designers make some very tacky stuff.

I've seen photos of Gwen Stefani's creations, and while I have nothing against her and even like some of her quirky outfits that she herself wears, I didn't like some of the stuff she created for her "LAMB" clothing line.
QUOTE

(Aside from bathing suits), the most casual thing Marilyn Monroe ever wore were camp shirts with capri pants with sandals. Well, when she got a bit older, she wore slacks with designer blouses, but even that is still dressier than the weird, bum-like track suits that Madonna wears.

There are a few photo sessions of Monroe (I forget the photographer), and you can find film stills of her, where she's wearing blue jeans. I don't think jeans had quite caught on in the 1950s, though.

BTW, as much as I tease Madonna... it's not that I'm against people dressing casually, including her.

It's just that some of Madonna's particular outfits are tacky, or fit her oddly - she's a muscular bean pole and some of her outfits look like they're supposed to be worn by a Sumo wrestler.

Madonna's also supposed to be this super beautiful person and a trend setter, but she wears some of the ugliest stuff (I'm referring to both formal and casual ensembles).

American television networks:

CBS, Warner to form new network, close UPN, WB Reuters

UPN, WB to shut down; new network formed
JAN. 24 3:29 P.M. ET Two small, long-struggling television networks -- UPN and The WB -- will shut down this fall and programming from both will be used to launch a new network aimed mainly at young and minority viewers.

The new network will be called The CW -- "C" for CBS Corp. and "W" for Warner Bros. -- each of which will own half of the new entity and contribute programs, assets and executives to the venture.

Tribune Co., a Chicago-based media company, will relinquish its 22.5 percent stake in The WB in exchange for a 10-year affiliation deal to carry the new network on 16 of its stations. The rest of The WB was owned by Time Warner Inc., parent of Warner Bros.

The CW will also be carried on the 12 stations owned by UPN, a unit of CBS Corp., guaranteeing the network carriage in 48 percent of the country and 20 of the top 25 TV markets in the country. Network executives said they hoped to have agreements in place to cover most of the rest of the country by the time it launches in the fall.

UPN and The WB had both struggled to compete against larger rivals in the broadcast TV business, ...

Bobby Brown is a pig. Whitney should have NEVER married him (the fact that she did doesn't speak well for her intelligence/self-esteem). That marriage was wrong, wrong, WRONG from the start. I'm surprised that they even lasted so long.

actually hon, what I was referencing was the fact that the clothes are tacky, ugly, and not worth the price. Even if I was a size -1 like Gela, I'd never wear crap like that. But hey, I just saw a piece on an entertainment show last night that one of Juicy's tracksuits is so hot, that you have to be on a waiting list to get it. Why not just jog on down to JC Penney and buy something nicer, and put the extra money in a donation for charity? She makes purses and jewelry that I'd never wear either. My husband asked me if I wanted something like that for Christmas! I looked at him, and said "could you see walking around with a bag that costs more than my whole wardrobe?" He laughed and said "well, no".

Guess that's how they are affording to buy that huge castle in England....

Yes, I find not only the tackiness of some of the celeb-designed stuff off-putting, but the fact they think all North American/ European / Aussie women are stick figures.

When I'm skinny, I'm a size 11/12. When I'm a stick, (and people tell me "you look anorexic, gain weight!" laugh.gif ) I'm at a 9/10.

To me, those are all perfectly normal sizes, but in La La Land (Hollywood and the like), that's considered huge, for some reason. I'm waiting for the clothing labels to start reading -8 (as in NEGATIVE size eight).

Mm-hmm, absolutely, and it's like my brother and his wife. Everyone warned my brother not to marry her. He did, she ruined his life.

You definitely need to be careful about who you marry.

I notice that Whitney Houston hasn't really done much career-wise in the past, what, five to ten years? I think she released a "greatest hits" type record about five years ago, but that was about it.

Part of me suspected that the "Book of Daniel" show wasn't going to last - it seemed to present a warped view of the Christian faith or Christian people, based upon reviews I read. It could also be that people just found it too boring to watch.

Heaven can't help show: NBC axes `Book of Daniel' - Chicago Tribune

Prophet And Loss: NBC Drops 'Daniel'
    Thursday, January 26, 2006; Page C07

NBC has closed the book on the religious drama "The Book of Daniel," pulling the series off its schedule after three episodes.

The controversial show, starring Aidan Quinn as a Vicodin-popping Episcopal priest with a troubled family, had a decent debut this month, drawing more than 9 million viewers. But the audience dropped off considerably the past two weeks, with last Friday's episode mustering only 5.8 million viewers.

"Daniel" generated controversy before its premiere when seven NBC affiliates announced they would not air the show because of how it depicted religious issues. The conservative Christian group American Family Association, led by James Dobson, advised its followers to call their NBC stations to protest the program.

This season, NBC has had trouble finding a fit for its Friday 10 p.m. time slot. In October, the network pulled the sperm-bank drama "Inconceivable" after two episodes.

Yep. I never actually watched an episode, but I saw a prolonged commercial for that show (or a preview of it at the end of one of their regular shows, whatever), and it looked absolutely stupid. So I never watched it.

It also seemed rather ... smarmy or perverted or whatever, another reason I never watched it. They tried to hype it as a feel-good show, about people who wanted to have kids or something, but my reaction was, "ewww."

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That Rick Ross photo just clabbers me every time I see it. I may take to wearing a crucifix.

"Book of Daniel" had to be the worst piece of crap that ever got on tv. It sucked so bad (I saw it) that it's easy to see why people would go out of their way to avoid seeing it. I can imagine people changing their schedules....and their lives, basically, to avoid accidentally turning it on- like walking the dog or doing the laundry at that hour.

There wasn't a grain of funniness in it. No wit. No irony. Nothing but hideously-acted urban degeneration heavy-handedly flung in every direction in the vain hope of hitting some target, which it never did.

Unbelievable that those oafs thought they could- or should- get anywhere with it.

a sperm bank- now THAT had possibilities.
