Lady Gaga Brings Out Madonna, Cyndi Lauper For NYC Show

Madonna Loves Lady GaGa

Lady Gaga 'Humbled' By Madonna Coming To Her Show

This page has photos of Lady Gaga, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, etc. all taken the night of the Gaga concert:

Madonna and Cyndi Lauper take style notes as Lady Gaga parades latest leotards in concert
    By Tamara Abraham
    03rd May 2009

It was a star-studded audience at Lady Gaga's concert in New York last night, with the likes of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper in attendance.

But if these images are anything to go by, concert-goers at the city's Terminal 5 venue had not put nearly as much effort into their outfits as the 'Poker Face' star.

Madonna, who arrived with an entourage that included toyboy Jesus, daughter Lourdes and fashion photographer Stephen Klein, wore cropped camouflage combat trousers with dated flat pointed slippers.

Only a fitted leather jacket offered a glimpse of the 50-year-old's toned physique, but unkempt hair was otherwise in keeping with her scruffy look.

Jesus, in turn, could have been a waiter or bodyguard with his black shirt and trousers, while young Lourdes, 14, opted for bizarre neon green leggings and brogues, if anything, the most in keeping with Lady Gaga's outrageous style.

Like Madonna, Cyndi Lauper also sported a leather jacket, but the lace ensemble beneath was rather mutton-dressed-as-lamb.

....But out on stage, Lady Gaga was undeniably the belle of the ball, performing in an array of typically revealing body-conscious outfits.

Changing her costume six times throughout the evening, the peroxide pop singer opened the show with a monochrome houndstooth body plate astride a co-ordinating scooter.

Accessorised with a black geometric headpiece and open-toe patent shoe-boots, the ensemble paid homage to her fabulous figure.

The look was marred only moments into the show however, after the the singer managed to rip her fishnet stockings.

Throughout the performance the tights appeared to become increasingly torn, and by her final bow a large rent could be seen on both her right and left thighs.

Most extraordinary, however, was a bubble-inspired creation made entirely of plastic orbs. Lady Gaga, who wore it with perspex mules, played a transparent piano also filled with balls - at one point, even using her foot on the keyboard.

A highlight was a nude corseted leotard embellished with crystals. The showgirl-themed outfit featured a hat decorated with the word 'Gaga' - fingerless gloves were also printed with the star's stage name.

A sculptural bustier with futuristic triangular silver panels, and exaggerated peplum also featured among the costumes.

Lady Gaga took her bow alongside dancers clad in Louis Vuitton Steven Sprouse-print trousers, co-ordinating with her shoes. Wearing a 1950's-style yellow jacket, the pointed shoulderpads, corseted waist and full peplum made for a glamorous finale.

But even after the concert was over the singer clearly hadn't tired of extraordinary ensembles. Sporting her now signature blonde bow, she wore a risqué red jumpsuit that plunged to her midriff.

Mimicking the pointed shoulders of her final outfit, the bra-less star was clearly sporting decorative nipple tassels thanks to the sheer fabric.

Lace-inspired cuffs, a cross pendant and stratospheric platforms completed the look as boyfriend Speedy accompanied her to Manhattan hangout Bungalow 8 after the show.
--- EDIT ---

Madonna and Lourdes going gaga for Lady Gaga
    May 4 09

Madonna, her daughter Lourdes and photographers Stephen Klein and David LaChappelle all put on their “Poker Faces” to catch Lady GaGa’s show at N.Y.C.’s Terminal 5 on Saturday night.

Since the two performers have an affinity for elaborate outfits and stage production, it was no surprise “Madonna loved Gaga’s show,” said our wintess. “Especially when Gaga played “Future Love” on the piano. Lourdes was singing along to every word.”

At the end of Gaga’s set, the out-there singer was presented with a gold record for her current album “The Fame.” After thanking the audience and her label, she then thanked her “amazing” opening band, Semi Precious Weapons.

But Madge and Lourdes missed that. They left halfway through the show —”probably because Gaga went on late, around 1 a.m., and Madge is a good mom!” — says our source.

Is Lady Gaga the New Madonna?
    May 12, 2009
    by: Diana Magpapian

Move over Madonna, Lady Gaga is the new Queen of Pop.

She is not only setting the precedence for pop music but for fashion as well. Lady Gaga was the muse for many Parisian designers during the unveiling of their Spring 09 collections and celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are going gaga for the Lady.

So what inspires Lady Gaga? “I am inspired by all sorts of things mostly New York City which is where I am from.” “I am inspired by photography and art and I like to go to museums,” she told Hollyscoop exclusively at the Wango Tango concert over the weekend.

Lady Gaga went on to say how she was forced to get creative with her wardrobe at the beginning of her career to get the attention of people. “The whole first year of my career was inspired by light it was one photograph of light, because I couldn’t afford to bring lighting people on the road and we were doing club shows and so I thought how could we do a show where I bring the light show with me,” she told Hollyscoop. That explains the wacky yet cool ensembles we often see Gaga sporting.

What do you think about Lady Gaga’s style; is it outrageous or pure genius?

Same headline as the one above, but it appears to be a different article.

Is Lady Gaga The New Madonna?
    May 27 09
    By Michael Musto

Remember when Madonna joined the Britney bandwagon, championing her greatness and even duetting with the new star to signal the fact that she might become the new Madonna, so it was best to quickly embellish her with the old Madonna?

But now, it turns out that Lady Gaga is way more Madonna-like than Britney ever was. The girl is much more of a player in her own image-making and seems like the visually avant-garde chameleon type that Britney, who simply synchs and swivels as she's told, is not overly interested in being.

And naturally, Madonna has already put her stamp of approval on Gaga, going to her concert with the boy toy and the daughter, whose ipod she clearly raided to find out about this new phenomenon of artsy commercialism.

Madonna's no dummy--and if Gaga turns out to be just a two-hit wonder, Madge will simply move on to the next emerging diva. But in the meantime, I give it a matter of minutes until we hear about a Madonna/Gaga duet. I'm not bluffin' with my muffin!

It never ceases to amaze me how these asinine "theories" about who will be the next Madonna and who she likes...who gives a crap? It sickens me that so many people care about every minisule comment or appearance of this boring, lame ugly old hag!

I have to correct Lady GaGa on something she said in an interview....

Lady Gaga feels the fame
Though it may be early in her career for comparisons, many have likened her to Madonna.

"I'm very flattered. She has always been completely unique and original," Gaga says. "That is something I aspire for. I hope to have a very similar conversation with you maybe 30 years from now when we are talking about another album of mine."
Madonna is not, nor has she ever been, "completely unique and original." See these links/ threads for examples:

1. Do a web search for 'Guy Samuel Bourdin Madonna lawsuit' (or click here) - Bourdin won the lawsuit, btw

Lady GaGa happy with gay sex at gig

Lady Gaga was thrilled to learn two men had sex at one of her concerts.puke.gif
The 'Poker Face? singer says her career high point so far was during a concert in New York when the audience ? which included '4 Minutes? star Madonna ? shed their inhibitions and made love as she sang.

She said: 'My sister texted me and she was like, 'Madonna is 15 feet away from me. And there are two guys having sex in the audience. ohmy.gif I just remember thinking, 'Wow, this is exactly what I wanted. I?ve got Madonna and I?ve got gay sex!? '

She's another wacko. I like her music (I know, I know) but she's another attention whore.

Despite being delighted at having Madonna as a fan, the singer has rubbished comparisons between the two performers, insisting she is happy just to be herself.

She explained to V magazine: 'Look, when I was a brunette, they called me Amy Winehouse. When I was a blonde, they called me Madonna. Then they called me Christina (Aguilera), then Gwen (Stefani). I just don?t think most people?s reference points go back very far.'

Despite her ascent to global stardom, the 'Paparazzi? singer insists she will always continue to play intimate concerts at gay clubs as she wouldn?t have a career without them.

She explained: 'With the exception of God, my family, and best friend Matthew Williams, and the Haus of GaGa, the gay community is the single reason that I am here today.

'I started out playing gay clubs in America, then I went to London to play G-A-Y, where I didn?t think anyone knew who I was, and there were thousands of people there. How could I ever turn my back on those people who really fought for me? And besides the loyalty factor, playing in gay clubs is fun!'

Gaga definitely works hard but she's not doing anything new, in fact she is a copy of a copier ala Madonna though she is a better singer and musician. She's just tired in general when it comes to her over sexed and over hyped image. Nothing she says is new or important plus like Katy Perry who is just abysmally skanky and untalented, she owes a lot to Perez Hilton who is abhorrent. I think she is too chicken to challenge Madonna to be quite honest which is sad and predictable. EVERY SINGLE female pop singer who comes along is expected like a programmed robot to praise Madonna and act as if she was responsible for their fame. its just grotesquely Pavlovian.

This article spends a lot of time comparing Gaga to Madonna (scroll down the page to get to that section), and at one point, the author wrongly refers to Madonna as having been "original."

Madonna has never been original. She started out as a Debbie Harry / Marilyn Monroe clone and spent most of the rest of her career stealing the looks and fashions of other icons.

The author does at least point out that Madonna cannot sing well.

I don't like Gaga, so the fact that this piece slams her quite a bit doesn't bother me.

Lady GaGa Says She’s All Women! Question Is… Who Cares?

Excerpt:
Back to Madonna … one of the biggest shock divas. (who is sadly still trying to shock people today, you can stop now)

She started a whole fashion trend with her pointy bustiers, rosaries, rubber O ring bracelets, and boy toy belt buckles.

Who can forget her humping a wedding veil and rolling around on the floor, when she performed Like A Virgin for the 1984 MTV music awards?

Looking back on Madonna’s perfomance in that video, it wasn’t a very good one, but people were so wrapped up in the lyrics of the song and what she was doing on stage, that few people noticed the bad notes she hit.

Rr the fact she was fluffing up her hair after she took off her veil, and that she became semi entangled in the veil at one point.

Madonna continued to push the envelope in her career and put many Catholics and others’ knickers in quite the bunch with her Like A Prayer video.

Fact.. it was her highest-selling single and viewers voted the video as the “Most Groundbreaking Music Video of All Time”.

Many people argue that Lady GaGa is a huge Madonna rip off. Although I am not a Madonna fan at all, her pop songs were much better than GaGa’s. (never thought I would be defending Madonna’s music)

....But does GaGa have the right stuff? Is her only claim to fame shocking the audience with costumes and stage humping, so they won’t notice her lackluster singing? It looks that way. Although her fans would certainly disagree.

GaGa is also trying to further her career by posing for an ENDLESS amounts of nudey photos.

    ....My conclusion?

I find her ba-ba ba- BORING.
Maybe I am jaded by years of watching others before her do the same things only better. The difference again is they HAD TALENT and it was new.

I find it ironic that even with the pitch-enhanced recordings, microphones, etc. that are supposed to make these stars' voices sound great, that there are still reviews (and fan postings) that say they sounded terrible and/or can't sing! Why?......Becasue THEY CAN'T and no amount of trickery can alter that. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

GaGa the next Madonna? Probably. Hardly a compliment though. By the way this woman says she's in her early 20's. Does anyone else thinks she looks a hell of a lot older than she really is? Just like her heroine M laugh.gif

She looks hardened, like she's been through a lot. She has the look of being stressed-out, already. On second thought, maybe she is the next Madonna. dunno.gif laugh.gif Welcome to showbiz, GaGa.

Lady GaGa Gets The Madonna Stamp Of Approval

Madonna 'Very Flattered' By Lady Gaga Comparisons

The photo of Madonna on this page is kind of funny:
Madonna Says She's 'Very Flattered' By Lady Gaga Comparisons
As for Gaga's VMA date, Kermit the Frog, Madonna says, 'I missed that, but I've dated some frogs.'

After talking with MTV News' Jim Cantiello about her heartfelt tribute to the late Michael Jackson at the VMAs on Sunday night, Madonna also answered questions about Lady Gaga and her daughter, Lourdes.

Gaga, of course, has been frequently compared to Madonna — both musically and as an icon — and her performance at the VMAs on Sunday has been compared with Madonna's famous VMA performances.

While she didn't see Gaga's avant-garde red-carpet getup in person, Madonna did catch it on a television screen backstage.

"I just saw Lady Gaga," Madonna said with a smile. "She looks like she's going to carnival in Venice, very beautiful."

When asked if she feels at all threatened by the comparisons, Madonna said, "No, I'm very flattered."

What about Lady Gaga's escort, Kermit the Frog?

"I missed that," Madonna said. Asked if she'd ever been escorted by Kermit, she joked, "No, but I've dated some frogs."

When asked if her daughter Lourdes — who is such a big Gaga fan that she danced on a table during a Gaga concert that Madonna took her to earlier this year — is interested in show business, Madonna turned serious.

"She's got school tomorrow, so she's in the bed sleeping," she said. "I think she has an interest, but she has time — she's not even 13 yet, so give her a few more years."

This will be cross-posted to the "Madonna Beaten In Pop Culture Polls etc" thread, or maybe the "Beaten in Music Related Areas" thread, since this is about the VMA show.
Lady Gaga: Many insiders say VMA performance tops Madonna
    September 19, 2009
    by Randy Aaron

In 1984, Madonna shocked the world by appearing in a sleazy (but hot) wedding gown singing "Like a Virgin." Twenty five years later, Lady GaGa makes that performance forgettable.

From her white classic look in "Poker Face" to her incredible vocal performance in "Paparazzi," Lady GaGa stole the night. Everybody held their mouths open in fascination when she hung from a string with fake blood on her face.

Rolling Stone described the performance as "shockingly unforgettable" while many blogs have been buzzing about GaGa's show for days.

It's obvious Lady GaGa is here to stay and is today's version of Madonna and Michael Jackson combined.

Most of the "journalists" who work at the Examiner.com are Grandma-donna apologists.

I think there might be ONE male writer there who has written critical stuff about Madonna, but I've seen one or two other male writers and this one female writer who are Madonna devotees.

Anyway. I left a post on the following page.

I wanted to write more details and give more support to my points, but the comment fields there are limited to 700, 800, or some-odd characters, so I had to be brief.

Lady Gaga: Her nude promo is sleazy and offensive
Lady Gaga pretends to be Madonna. However, she doensn't have the talent, the looks (well, compared to 15 years ago), the charisma or - as witnessed by her latest concert promo - the ability to be nude and artistic at the same time.

In order to promote her upcoming Fame Kills tour with Kanye West, GaGa has shot a 31 second trailer in which she is wearing nothing but a face full or makeup while she is carried in slow motion by a mystery man, most likely rap hunk Kanye West.

This video tells all of GaGa's teenage fans that it is okay to be a slut to promote yourself. Madonna - of course - did this too. But Madonna's message has always been about female empowerment. GaGa's message: Who knows? See this pathetic publicity stunt below and tell us what you think.

    [snip Lady Gaga video]
My replies on that page:

I'm not a Gaga fan, but I have to correct some of the points made about Madonna. Madonna does not, nor has she ever, had talent, charisma or looks.

Madonna based her career upon using manufactured controversy that revolved around sex and religion, and by constantly ripping off other celebrities, including but not limited to, Debbie Harry, Marilyn Monroe, Jean Harlow, and Marlene Dietrich. Madonna was not about "empowerment," and certainly not for empowering other women: she only cares about herself, getting publicity, and making more money.

The writer of this piece is holding a double standard: You're condemning Gaga for the same cheap trash Madonna has been pulling for years.
    -------------------------------------
    [Reply #2-]

Post Script. I don't think Madonna herself ever claimed to a be feminist or claimed that she was using her videos to empower other women (not that it would be any more true if she had made such claims): I think these are concepts that feminist professors and journalists *read into* Madonna's work over the years.

I have never understood how one can equate a woman grabbing her crotch in a music video and behaving crassly with feminism or female empowerment.

Just because some males are obscene does not excuse that same behavior when done by women, nor does it suddenly and magically elevate trashiness and vulgarity to an art form or to something high-brow, regardless of the motive.

Vulgarity remains vulgarity, no matter why it is done, and no matter the gender of the one engaging in it.
I discussed some of these topics further, in the feminism thread located here

No, that's not what the video is saying, in my opinion. It doesn't "say" anything. Other than her idiotic mantra "Fame Kills". I know that Lady GaGa is incredibly pretentious and tries too hard to shock (like Madonna) but I don't think Madonna is any better than she is. Madonna's 'message' wasn't always about female empowerment. It was about shocking people, pure and simple. It was about pushing her sick sexual fantasies into the public eye where everyone can see them.

As for the tour promo, she was naked just to get people's attention. That's all. Maybe what GaGa could be saying in this promo is that fame not only kills, but strips you bare of everything you have, and that's why she's nude. But Madonna's message has also been that it's okay to be a slut to promote oneself. They're exactly the same.

Okay, I'm rambling, but still...

I didn't like Lady Gaga before, but now that she's buddying around with Madonna in her private life, I like her even less.

(Unless she's just using Madonna for publicity, but Madonna is a has-been, so that would be a waste of time.)

Madonna and Lady Gaga cause uproar at New York City night club
Following their surprise dance-off on SNL, Madonna and Lady Gaga decided to "just dance" for real and hit a NYC club together at a birthday party for Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary.

New York gossip column PageSix reported that the club's DJ continued to alternate between songs "Holiday" and "Poker Face."
Eventually Madonna and Lady Gaga gave their fellow clubbers exactly what they wanted - a legitimate dance off.

No word on who won... or if Madonna ever found out what a "disco stick" is.
Madonna & Gaga Just Dance In New York
Madonna and Lady Gaga got into the groove following their mock fight on a "Saturday Night Live" episode with a dance-off in front of thrilled clubbers in New York City.

The pair donned matching black lingerie and knee-high boots to stage a fight as part of a TV comedy skit last weekend.

And the pair couldn't resist teaming up again at a birthday party thrown for Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, taking to the dance floor for a battle at New York's Submercer club.

A source tells New York gossip column PageSix, "(DJ) Jus Ske was joking around and alternating their songs 'Holiday' and 'Poker Face,' and then they both started going at it.

"Madonna seemed to be the winner. People were going wild."

Related thread:
Madonna rips off/ exploits/ sucks up to Homosexual Community
Bear in mind that the woman who wrote this editorial (Sue Bergerstein) has defended Madonna in other editorials in the past.

In the editorial Bergerstein claims:
In the 1980s, huge stars such as Madonna and Elizabeth Taylor spoke out about gay rights at a time when it was not a popular thing to do.
Since when did Madonna ever speak out for homosexuals, especially during the 1980s?

The only thing I ever recall The Venereal Girl doing during that time frame was appearing in some kind of PSA for condoms, or something of that nature (and that may have been in the early 1990s, not even the 1980s).

The woman who wrote this complains that Lady Gaga is exploiting homosexuals for marketing purposes - which is sort of what Madonna has done over her career, so that's pretty hypocritical.

I'm not sure if Madonna intentionally set out to rip off and exploit the homosexual community, but I think she has enjoyed their support and has used it to her advantage without giving much back. She likes to use them for their creative ideas (music, fashion, dance).

BTW, I did NOT view the video embedded on the following page. I did see a brief clip of it on TV, though. I saw Gaga yelling at Obama, or some politician, "Are you listening?"

Lady GaGa gives America bad image of gays at D.C. Rally
At the National Equality March Rally, Lady GaGa took the stage and claimed it to be the most important moment in her career. She is smart to use gays for marketing purposes, but gays are not wise to use Lady GaGa, whom most people see as a talentless freak.

In the 1980s, huge stars such as Madonna and Elizabeth Taylor spoke out about gay rights at a time when it was not a popular thing to do. They took a stand against bigotry and positively influenced mainstream culture to accept gay culture. Lady GaGa... not so much!

The image of Lady GaGa promoting gay rights is very similar to the image of transvestites dancing around at gay pride events: it negatively stereotypes gay culture. Lady GaGa is a woman that gays can do without. You can view her "speech" below:

Somewhere Lady GaGa actually admitted to being bi. I partly agree with this article in that she, like many other celebs, use gay issues to establish their liberal cred with the public. I disagree that Madonna was speaking out for gays in the '80s - like you said, she and many others were more concerned about the AIDS crisis. Back then, whether one agrees or not, AIDS was seen as a 'gay' disease. It wasn't until research findings in the '90s and more cases among even straight people that the whole 'gay disease' connontation wore off. The only reason anyone connects Madonna with 'pushing for gay rights in the '80s' was because of AIDS and its link with the gay community.

Please correct me if my info is wrong. ask.gif
