I've said at one point that what I want to do with the Min of Culture is to work on actually defining it, trying out things and having something to work with. With the Uroca merger going ahead, I think this'll be important because the current discussion of the Constitution is surrounding the idea of enabling these actions.

So, we have the Aberdeen Tribune which will have 1 issue released near the end of the month and will work on the first Urocan Post issue for release shortly after the merger

What is the Aberdeen Tribune going to be used for? Regional News and National News worth Regional attention. Make articles about how the War against UKTGM and EE is going, have opinion columns from local newspaper editors about the merger, or have letters to the editor complaining about how Mittsville was put on the merger committee while your nation was not.

There has also been discussion between Imperfectia and myself of possibly publishing an Inter-Regional version that the Ministry of Foreign Relations could use, but that will be for later discussions with that Minister.

However, I can't do this all on my own. No, I turn to you, the reader, to give us your articles. To submit your articles, PM me. Anonymous articles welcome, just note your desire to be such in the PM

Disclaimer: not all submitted articles will be used, particularly if they duplicate a purpose already served. Article selection will be based on quality and boredom level. It will never be because the editor just doesn't like you, so don't complain about that. Submission deadline for any particular issue will be released closer to it actually being figured out.

Suggested topics:
-Bloopan Civil War
-UKTGM and EE - from either side of the war
-The Merger
-PM Candidates, platforms, debates, Imperfectia being Election Overseer
-UN Events
-Admin laziness
-Things you think should happen in the new region
-How stupid this newspaper is.

Sure Mitts, I'm taking 'language' as my English course at school, part of which is Journalism, so I'm a bit "News-articleded out" if you know what I mean.

Hmm....

For me to get an Aberdeen Tribune released in time and an edition of the Urocan Post, I'm going to need to push things up

Submission deadline will be Jan 20 with a printing hopefully on Jan 23. If there aren't enough submissions or if the forum is getting in the way, I'll cancel the Aberdeen Tribune's release and just work on getting the Urocan Post released.

WAR RAVAGES DANCING BANANALAND
By: Mat Maddox, Freelance Journalist
Origiionally published in "Freedom Tribune" of Capita, Western Earl.

Over a month into the conflict much of central Dancing Bananaland lies in ruines, including the once beutiful colonial city of North Port, much of the origional Cordovan structure now destroyed by artillery and heavy machine guns. Of course, the damage to cultural relics pales in comparison to the suffering of the poeple of Dancing Bananaland. Those people trapped, starving in their homes, or scuttling across the street to avoid artillery blasts to reach a bombed out grocery store. Perhaps the worst is those living in the held cities in the East, whom as I have personally seen, deal with soldiers who behave like barbarians as officers turn the other cheek.

It is this, as a war journalist, that has struck me so hard about this war, is the human cost. Once considered a civilized nation, if nothing else, the EE have persued this conquest with an utter vigour and disregard for civility not usually seen in such old royalty nations. I remember as a young boy watching the news reports in Westie (Western Earl) on how the EE, despite the savagry and brutality of rebel tactics, maintained "moral" warfare. However hypocritical, I must say that outside of a few actions, the EE are known to fight fair.

Naturally, that was the past, and this is the 21st century. Under radical new Dutchess Layla Trixton, and Archduke Commander Vandertramp, the EE have taken a whole new approach to their war in DBL and Aberdeen abroad. Carpet bombings, napalm, suicide attacks. Nothing short of nuclear war seems taboo to their fanatically trained and fiercly loyal house guard, most of whome comprise the elite forces.

What also strikes me, as I sit in this rickety boat on the way to the Vogon mountains, is the nature of DBL's response. Their guerilla actions n the 80's where relentless and brutal, EE soldiers hacked to peices and drive by shooting and car bombs in populated areas. Instead the proper DBL army, while maintaing some effective guerilla tactics, seem almost restrained in their tactics. Bombings have been limited, and military actions in population centers restrained until mass evacuations. I've talked with soldiers who complain of being reprimanded for shooting at enemy soldiers who MAY have been injured. Of course likely exaggeration, it shows that deceased Prime Minister Ross' pacfistic influence remains.

Pacifist and warmonger, honour or dishouner, however, the tide of war shifts ever in favour of the advancing Eastern Earl. Recently seizing the central city of Nostromo, and a controlled retreat and evacuation of Northpoint in process, it seems inevitable the EE will advance to the West and South, with all of their fury.

And thus so it seems with the region at large. With the cataclysmic North Sea battle, and their easy naval victories in Alzgor, it seems clear that the EE will soon expand well beyond DBL, and unless the region of Aberdeen can band together long enough to fight off it's enemies from abroad, they may find themselves part of the UKTGM, and a newly re-envigorated Eastern Earl.

AFTER THE GUNS FELL SILENT
by Stephen Grounn
originally posted Bentay Press Service, February 20, Year 2

HOREEV, BENTAY
Today will be remembered as a day of mourning, just one week after Moravian forces overran where I stand now, Horeev, Bentay's capital. On the evening of February 13th, which was by the way a Friday, Moravian forces launched a large missile, destroying all of Horeev, most of it's fleeing citizens, and about 80% of Bentay's military. After a long day battling with Moravians and no sides getting anywhere, Moravian fleets annihilated Bentayan fleets, and launched a missile towards Horeev. It will be a day to remember in all of history.
How is Bentay reacting today? There has been no official word on the whereabouts of Nathaniel Burke, our Prime Minister, but there have been a few alleged sightings of him. Word has also spread that he reached the Elder Council and is now leaving the country in search of lost national treasures. Again, Bentayan government has yet to formalize on these rumors.
As for civilian aid, several Aberdonian nations have stepped in and supplied food and water to those without it. Surviving stores still continue to operate and provide food and other goods, however with no formal government, there is no tax, and walk in revenue received goes directly to buying other goods to sell.
The Bentay Press Service still continues to operate, and will continue releasing issues in these hard times. Expect emergency announcements as important news is released, regarding the fate of Bentay.

Civil war in Bloopa

It was only 3 moths ago when Bloopa started descending into civil war. However, the nation is now a war zone, where a significant proportion of the population have risen up against the government.

This all started when an unknown student was attacked and tasered four times in the Eastern Bloopan University by police. This caused many people in the university to question the police’s actions. When the police refused to give an apology or compensation, a group of students took matters into their own hands and formed the Civil Rights Association, or CRA.

The principles of the CRA were supported by many people and their numbers expanded extremely fast. The leaders of the CRA put this down to discontent of Bloopans in general, and to peoples increasing loss of faith with the government. The numbers speak for themselves. In the two weeks at the height of their popularity, membership of the organisation was increasing by 20% a day. Clearly, this shows that a huge amount of Bloopans are sympathetic to the cause of the CRA.

But with this popularity came more violent tendencies. Rallies held in support of the association started to turn more aggressive, and in one case police used batons to attack a protestor, which only increased public resentment.

The turning point came when the trial of the policemen who had attacked the student in the EBU, what the CRA had been formed to support, was completed. The verdict was that the policemen were acting for the safety of other citizens. This moment caused members of the CRA to abandon their belief that the democratic process could work, and put Bloopa on the road to civil war.

The government tried to disband the CRA but this only made members more determined to fight the government. It was much too late in the day when Prime Minister Shaw tried to calm the protests himself.

In the fitting location outside the Congress Building, the war started. The protestors started throwing rocks at the prime minister after he tried to calm them down, and somewhere in the chaos a soldier fired on the crowd. After that, civil war was almost inevitable.

What could the government have done to have avoided this? Find the policemen guilty for one. This was a very important event in starting the war, and throwing out the case only strengthened the CRA.

Once the war started, the CRA could rely on a sizeable portion of the armed forces to support them. However this was not enough. They have made an alliance with the nations of Andany and Aioran, who can both access Bloopa over the Highfolk Sea. The government has made alliances with bordering Eramia, and more interestingly, The United Kingdoms of Trans-Galasia and Moravia who are currently invading several parts of Aberdeen. This alliance would allow them to gain a foothold in the region.

Many people internationally are questioning that the CRA have abandoned their founding principles. How can a “Civil rights” Association start and support a war? However, others believe that war has been forced upon them, and they have the right to defend themselves. Here at the Aberdeen tribune we wish for a quick end to the war which is destroying then nation of Bloopa.
