general appearance - Lillith is short and petite, with fairly long legs for her frame. She has very slight curves, with a small bust and slender hips. Her shoulders are narrow, and her arms are long and gangly on her small frame, tapering down to small hands with the graceful fingers of a writer, with nails often bitten down to nothing, a nervous habit that she can do nothing to stop (no matter what manner of polish or bad-tasting substance she coats her nails with). Lillith's skin is soft and pale, and umarred by blemishes or anything of the sort save for a few stray freckles scattered over her cheeks.

Her face is heart-shaped and kind, with a somewhat rounded jaw, and framed in thick brown hair that falls just past her shoulders. Her hair is naturally curly, and she only very rarely straightens it or uses hair products. When she smiles, dimples appear at the corners of her mouth. Her lips are wide and full under a small nose with a fairly longer bridge than normal. Large, almond-shaped brown eyes sit framed by thick lashes sit underneath dark eyebrows that grow in such a manner that her eyes almost look a bit too far apart, as they do not extend fully past the inner corners of her eyes. It gives her a slight apperance of always being surprised.

When she walks, she often crosses her arms over her chest or clasps her hands behind her back, to avoid the awkward feeling of letting them swing by her sides. In school (or in public) they are often crossed over a stack of books clutched to her chest like a shield. She does not bounce when she walks; rather, her feet roll gracefully against the pavement, her upper body remaining still, giving her a faint appearance of gliding across the ground. Her hips only sway on two occaisions; if she's pretending to be a model in the dressing room when she tries on clothes (and later in her bedroom in front of her mirror), or if she forgets herself and lets them sway naturally. Otherwise, Lillith keeps them fairly still as she walks to avoid looking stupid among the hoardes of Aurora girls that can pull off sashaying everywhere they go. Her overall demeanor is unremarkable; Lillith does her best to fade into the background.

*rain & thunderstorms ;; Not only do these conditions set the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of reading thrillers (or watching them), Lillith loves the feeling of the rain, the feeling of all worries being washed away and slipping off of her skin in graceful rivets.

*"Metal of Honor" video games ;; She often ended up playing them with Bastian when he invited her over, despite her protests that they could be doing something else, anything else, and soon became fairly addicted.

*soap operas ;; Lillith loves to watch her soaps, as campy and overdramatic as they are. They entertain her and while she first watched them for a good laugh at the general silliness, she soon found herself wrapped into the plotlines of her favorite characters.

quirks/habits - Biting her fingernails when she's anxious, pretending to be a model in the privacy of her bedroom, singing and dancing in front of her mirror to silly pop songs with her barrel brush or anything at hand as a microphone, being particularly anal in keeping her room clean.

general personality - Lillith is somewhat shy, and thoughtful. She will approach someone if she wishes, but is not the type to stroll right up to someone and ask if they want to be best pals.Not quick to open up to strangers, Lillith is polite to all, though constantly wary. If around those that are not her friends, she is quiet and polite, striving to make good impressions while at the same time being wary in all that she does lest she embarrass herself. She doesn't want to make enemies out of anyone if she can avoid it. Once friends with someone, she is fiercely loyal and will do anything to protect them, even if it means stepping outside of her comfort zone (and it often does). Around friends, she is more relaxed and outgoing, talking openly and laughing, unlike her demeanor at school, which is very introverted.


In the presence of those she finds intimidating or unwelcome, Lillith tries as much as possible to avoid contact and fade into the background to protect herself from ridicule. Being small and having next to nothing in the way of muscles, Lillith avoids violence as much as possible, choosing instead her repetoire of scathing remarks and biting wit to take down those who threaten her. Around friends, her sense of humor is well-rounded and open, though some of the raunchier bits make her blush, and seeks to make those around her laugh and enjoy her company.


Lillith is terrible at flirting; she is often nervous in the presence of boys (other than Bastian), and isn't quite sure what to do with herself, so interactions with a boy are usually somewhat one-sided, as Lillith often finds herself at a loss for words and simply nods or shakes her head, whatever is required, before fleeing. Her intelligence and curiosity both abound. A naturally inquisitive girl, she loves to learn any new information she can and can usually recite it at the drop of a hat, unless the subject was particularly boring. Lillith is also somewhat of a perfectionist and cannot STAND when anyone messes up her room in any manner. She keeps it very tidy, and if anyone save Bastian dares to muss up her comforter or move something from its position, she gets thoroughly irritated and has to right it immediately.

general history - Lillith's mother, Janice, was originally from Aurora, Indiana. Janice, a very intelligent girl, graduated from High School at the end of her junior year and started college early. At the age of 20, with her master's in greek history and education, Janice accepted an offer to work at the prestigious Melbourne University. She met a young, charming professor of English literature there named Marcus Usher, and the two hit it off. A scant two years after coming to Australia, Janice and Marcus were married, their first daughter Katie coming soon after. Lillith was born when Katie was two, and the two were raised in Australia until Katie was seven and Lillith was five. Janice and Marcus' contracts were up for renewal, and instead, they made the decision to return to the states and settle down in Aurora once more. Marcus transferred to a college in a nearby city and commutes there every day, continuing his career as a professor of English literature, while Janice worked from home, writing about Greek history and philosophy for newsletters, websites, essays and pamphlets used in nearby universities teaching her subject.


Lillith and Katie adapted to life in Aurora, Indiana very differently; Katie instantly made a steadfast group of friends that she stayed a part of all throughout high school, while shy Lillith was teased in kindergarten for her accent and left to play alone during recess. Needless to say, she didn't begin to make many friends until middle school rolled around and she was no longer in one class with one teacher and the same roomful of children. Her only friend until middle school was a little boy named Bastian Birch, whom she had befriended in first grade and who she lived fairly close to, and they became the best of friends, even when Bastian went to the Institute of Higher Learning and Lillith went to Aurora High. Her sister Katie was heavily into art and theatre, and moved to Chicago for college after high school. She joined a theatre troup, found a gallery that would show some of her paintings, and went from the blonde-haired bubbly Katherine Usher to the dark-haired theatre wraith known as Nebula. Her parents refuse to call ner Nebula, much to her irritation, when she visits, but support her in her artistic ventures. Lillith is almost the polar opposite of Katie/Nebula personality wise, but they remain close, save for Katie/Nebula's nagging that Lillith should be more outgoing, wear this, go there.


At the end of her sophomore year, Lillith's teachers, seeing her intelligence and talent in writing, contacted the school board of The Institute of Higher Learning and gave them her portfolio to consider. Lillith was wary of transferring and leaving her friends and the school she knew, even though Bastian would be there, but her parents eagerly persuaded her to take the opportunity. The Institute accepted her on half-scholarship. Lillith began her junior year at the Institute full of anxiety, feeling very much like a sheep painted black, thrown into a pack of wolves and given the instructions to blend in; what would it be like? Surely it wouldn't be too terrible; she had Bastian, and the students probably weren't quite as terrible as was rumored...right?

Welcome to Center City...
The midday sun was dim, covered by a sky full of filmy gray clouds, too light to threaten rain but thick enough to put a spell of sadness through the air. Umbrellas were brandished by almost everyone on the street today, but they were clutched to sides, un-opened, useless, a vice for paranoia. Somewhere high on a rooftop, a black cat lay curled precariously on a stone ledge that ran around the edge of the rooftop, hoping that by some miracle, sunshine would break through the clouds and warm his fur as he slept.


Suddenly, with a bloodcurdling screech, the cat was wide awake and on its feet, prepared to fight or flee, depending on the size of the enemy that had just disturbed its rest.


"Shh, shh, I am sorry, kitty." A soft, lulling voice floated through the air, tinged with a French accent, and a gloved hand silently reached toward the cat. It didn't move, but glared warily at the hand as it gently stroked its back.


Finally, giving in to pleasure, the cat sank back down into its previous position, purring contentedly. Once it had fallen asleep again, the gloved hand receeded. The owner of the hand, a tall, lithe woman, looked out onto the horizon through a thin black veil, blood-red lips curling into a soft smile. A hand tucked a piece of black hair behind her long, pointed ear.


"So, this is Center City." said the lips, 'r's rolling and 'eee' in place of 'i'. The accent was prominant, but not harsh. The veil was lifted to reveal large gray eyes, peering into the distance, searching the rooftops, trying to find some sort of telltale sign that would clue her in to the character of this city. Warily, the veil was replaced as a break in the clouds wrought a stream of golden light down into one of the streets several blocks down, as if drawn there by some miraculous event.
