Hey Lily! (Hi mum and dad if you're reading this!)
Guess what. I got sorted into Gryffindor! And I found dad's old scarf tucked into my trunk, I think he knew. What house do you want to be in? You're a lot like mum, so I see you being a Gryffindor too! And you should see the common room! Mum and dad described it perfectly, and the arm chairs are really comfy. I don't have my class schedule yet, but I'm excited to start classes. Especially Potions, I think I'll be really good at it. And from what aunt Hermy said, Transfiguration is a lot of fun too.
I know! I'll write to you about everything I learn, and it'll almost be like you're here too! And then, when you do come to Hogwarts, you'll have a big head start. Mum or dad would have to help though, because I can only help so much in a letter. When I come home for Christmas we can practice stuff together. We'll just have to make sure James isn't around, he makes me nervous and I forget things.
Well, I better go. I don't know how big of a letter Ruth can carry. I'll write you another letter after my first class or something!

The boy had a knack for imitating sounds as he heard them. This made it easy to call his tiny, only 12 centimeters long, owl down to him. It was a single, deep hooting noise and the female was resting on his fingers. He set the letter down on the table and used his finger to run it down it back, also petting her neck where he knew she liked it most. The owl hotted in response and stuck out her leg. Albus set her on the table and picked up the letter, tying it carefully to the small bird's leg. Ruth hooted again and he allowed her to crawl back onto his finger while his other hand reached into his shirt pocket and retrieved an owl treat. The first year moved to one of the windows and fed Ruth the treat before lifting his hand and allowing her to take off. She spread her wings to their full wing span, 28 centimeters, and began her journey to Lily Potter.

Lily heard a tapping on something andlooked up to see Al's owl. She quickly ran to the window and opened it bringing Ruth inside. She put her down on the messy desk and took the letter from the owls foot. Lily read the letter over and over again until finally she sat down and started to write a reply



Dear Al,

Congrats on getting sorted into Gryffindor, I really hope I get sorted into that you, James, and I can all be together. It sounds like you are having a lot more fun then I am. It is terribly boring around here now that you are James are both gone. Sure I have mom, dad, Aunt Hermione, Uncle Ron, and Hugo but I feel like I rarely see them any more. I can't wait until you come home during Christmas, I want to be aable to do stuff my other classmates can't, well except Hugo. I'll give your letter to mum and dad once they are home again.

Lily gave Ruth an owl treat as she tied her own letter onto the her leg. She strocked the small owl as she finished eating the treat. Lily brought Ruth over to the open window and let her out to fly back to Al.
