you need to have "ruined" versions of those buildings. i.e collapsed from the impact of a titan smacking into it, or something of that scale. or at least version of the buildings that have huge holes gashed into the sides of the top half has been blown off etc, and rubble. LOTS of rubble. New rule: any unit with x inches of a collapsing building takes y amount of damage

From the look and detail of it, i'm not 100% that this is for gaming purposes. But if it is a demand a thunderhawk sticking out of the side of one of the 'scapers.

HOLY [I Swear To Much] !! That's the sickest thing I've ever seen. Who's house is that and where's his furniture? Do you guys work at a movie studio or something? How do you keep from falling into a building? How many people are going to be playing there at once? I have sooooo many questions about this that MUST be answered!

There are many creative ways to express wonder and amazement. Posters need to consider those before they run afoul of the mods, like say, me. Right?
Now that amusement park is a fabulous touch, were you inspired by some of images of abandoned amusement parks floating around on the web? That really adds a touch of apocalyptic desolation to your incredible downtown style diorama there. More pics of that, if you would please.

Plunging fire strategem at its finest... VTOL aircraft would OWN on that map. not to mention indirect fire...
I take it you guys do like amatuer movie making or something? Or did you luck out at a tag sale? Would love to see a miniature compared to the buildings. One lone guardsman in time square
I would love to the see the forgeworld rules for fighting indoors on a battlefield like that. clear the buildings floor by floor

Thanks for all the kind words (sometimes it is nice to be called insane).
>VTOL aircraft would OWN on that map.
I have quite a few Valkyries ;-)
>were you inspired by some of images of abandoned amusement parks floating around on the web?
Yep. Everything is built after Googled images.
>demand a thunderhawk sticking out of the side of one of the 'scapers.
Had plans for something like that - but scrapped the idea due to respect for 9/11.
>New rule: any unit with x inches of a collapsing building takes y amount of damage
More like: any unit (excluding super heavies) within x inches of a collapsing building tis removed from play.
>I have sooooo many questions
Stay tuned. Will post info regarding constructions + pics of the final set up. The city is still W.I.P. i.e. finishing touches, rubble, the streets and lighting (all houses will be lit from the inside) still remains. Hopefully we will be finished by Tuesday (seven people working 24-7).

By the way, if you haven't seen our previous terrain project (a 3m x 3m island) it is now used in an online game: http://www.gettheglass.com/ Will be cutting it up shortly. Anybody want to buy the castle?

Those pics look like you're using the "forbidden art". If thats the case then it should be "slightly" easier to ..."make".. duplicates of the buildings but then break them into destroyed forms for the "destroyed building" condition, then throw a few handful of rubble bitz around it. I don't think you were considering that idea when you were designing those beauties but for future projects, if you're gonna do something similar, it might be an idea to make the buildings in 2 or 3 parts and when its destroyed you just remove the top half to reveal rubble and exposed beams. This isn't a criticism, thats one massive undertaking and it looks the bees knees. Just food for thought.

But if this is an Imperial city, there needs to be Anti-Aircraft guns on the roofs and giant Propaganda posters on all the buildings. Not to mention the outer walls!

So what is this all for? A game of Apocalypse to rule them all?
If so, Jii Dee and I threw some ideas around for collapsing buildings.
When a building 5 storeys or taller collapses due to being destroyed, it damages all units within a 2D6" range. Add another D6" to the range for every extra ten storeys the building has (e.g. a 25-storey building damages everything within 4D6"). All infantry units within this range take an automatic wound on a 3+. Saves may be taken as normal. Vehicles suffer a Glancing Hit on a 4+. Models inside the building are destroyed on a 3+, vehicles included. Armour saves may not be taken, however Invulnerable saves may be.
The logic there is that infantry outside would be more worried about falling projectiles, however their armour would offer some protection. Falling rubble would be an issue for vehicles, inflicting damage typical of a Glancing Hit, and possibly burying the vehicle in rubble (immobilised/destroyed). Units inside the building would be crushed outright, and it's more a matter of luck as to wether they survive or not.

Like the buildings, but I have to say the island is absolutely gobsmacking. Really helps that it's wrapped in some gorgeous flash (as a professional flash developer, I've got to say it's rather demoralising lol).

>why is casting called the forbidden art?
'cause whenever we discuss casting in forums there are concerns regarding the legality of reproducing things (i.e. copying), bringing up various interpretations on "fair use" (like when discussing if it is OK to copy music).
When we, in this project, cast the houses it is perfectly OK because we made the masters ourselves - but if we, hypotetically speaking, would make moulds of parts from GW or Forgeworld terrain (or Rackham gargoyles) to spice things up we would be in a grey zone. If we would reproduce complete GW/Forgeworld pieces - and even, god forbid, sell 'em - we would have crossed the line.
Most n00bs interested in casting have the latter in mind, therefore forums tend to stay clear of the subject "how to cast".
Hence the "forbidden art".
Clear?
