This is a new army I've been working on in secret; Mariners Blight.
They are a maritime inspired Lovecraftian Chaos Marine Army combining inspiration from The Shadow over Innsmouth as well as the Cthulhu mythos with 1800's style diving suits and nautical details.

I will have several updates over the next few weeks, but for now here's some Marines.

They were made from a combination of MK2 & MK3 Armour with Morback's BioHazard Helmets. I literally cut legs off from MK2 Armour and swapped with MK3 Armour to create a more chaotic appearnce. Some Maxmini mutation bits were mixed in with possessed bits to achieve an aquatic mutation effect on the Close Combat Marines.

The bases were from Secret Weapon Miniatures. A Combination of their Blasted Wetlands mixed with Bone Fields designed to look like bone infested murky swamp land. Think the Dead Marshes from LOTR.

Will there be a Dagon Greater Daemon/Daemon Prince and Deep One lesser daemons?

Like so?

River trolls would probably make good spawns.

If I may suggest:
Reaper Miniatures Slithe Queen of Miriamis.

Giant robotic crab for a defiler would also be something nice to see.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Here is one of the centerpieces for my Mariners Blight Army, a Contemptor Dreadnought modified to look like an oversized deep diver. I drew inspiration not only from actual 1800's diver outfits, but also from Big Daddy.

I took the Forge World Dread and added some subtle Chaos trim with Greenstuff and Styrene rivets. I used a Chaos vehicle spotlight (Which fit perfectly) as the diver helmet. And then I sculpted the tentacles from greenstuff as seen in this post.

The base is from Secret Weapon Miniatures and the boat I bought from Billing Boats USA.

It's not so much a Big Daddy as a walking diving bell. But looks great in any case.

Here's a new addition, A Mariners Blight Sorcerer.

"Gimme a Kiss Mutha [I Swear Too Much]a!"

Basically, that sums up this Sorcerer…

Just like the other marines, he's a mix of MK2 & 3 Armor, a skaven staff and a really awesome head from Maxmini. I was certainly going for the swamp Leech look here :P

Hah! Love it!

Thanks again guys! Here's my latest addition, Deep Diver Terminators
These guys are competing to be one of my favorite units from the whole army.
I mixed up loyalist and Traitor Terminator armor and used all the diver helmet heads from BioHazard head sprues Morbäck designed to achieve a unique look. I actually shaved away a lot of the smaller chaos detail on each figure for a smoother armor look, especially on the shoulder pads. This Particular unit has Mark of Nurgle, so I added that in there in a Cephlopod like fashion smile.gif
The addition of some aquatic like mutations completes the Innsmouth Look on these fellas.

So Wrapping up my Blighted week are my take on Raptors.

They are mostly based on MK3 Armour, w/regular Chaos CC arms and some MK2 Armour pieces. The Biohazard heads and Iron Pattern Jump Packs are from Maxmini as are the Tesla Cannons which I'm using as more retro proxies for Plasma Guns.

The Commander is using a Zombie Head from Maxmini for that rotten swampy look. I also decided that his lighting claws should be mutations rather than manufactured weapons. Just "felt" right with the whole Lovecraftian mutation thing I have going on.

I'm still debating on wether or not I'll add any cinematic jet exhaust effects like I've done with my Dark Eldar. Probably not this time.

How about putting rudders on the exhausts of the jump packs? You know, for that extra nautical feel. They could be like dual purpose packs, capable of running on battery power in water, while still functioning like jump packs in air.

Also, when are you gonna do this?

Impressive work, Lucky5 (as always).

Makes my old Lovecraftian marines from highschool (The Krakens) pale by comparison. Well done!

As far as nomenclature goes, are you using any of the old Insmouth, Dunwich, or Arkham family names? Lord Marsh for your commander? Maybe name your sorcerer Whateley? Perhaps have Veteran Sargeants Pickman and Del La Poer? happy.gif

@KidCthulhu
I will be using some of their names. My Boss man who is a Abaddon Proxie will be Lord Obeddon Marsh :P
My defiler that is in the works will be Nyarlathotep, and My Deamon Prince in the works will be K' thul-hu

Kicking off this week of blighted updates; my Possessed unit.
Just like the other Mariners they are a mix of MK 2 & MK 3 Armour as well as a mix of old and new possessed / mutation bits. I only used claws/arms that had the nautical feel. Crab Claws, tentacles, etc.

I can almost see the nasty, infected wounds they'd leave behind, akin to the worst jellyfish stings out there...Awesome, inspiring work!

Thanks for all the compliments everyone.

It's been a few weeks since I added anything for Mariners Blight. I moved my family to a new house in Dirty Jerz, 3x the size of what we lived in Philly. I started a new higher paying job as a Design Director working from home the same week and needless to say it's been hectic. The past few days things have settled down and I've had the chance to get creative (In a non-dayjob fashion) and here's the result.

My Blight Lord is essentially Abbaddon. Same stats, rules etc. But I wanted a unique look to fit the blight theme. In The Shadow over Innsmouth it was Obed Marsh who brought Dagon to Innsmouth, so it's only fitting that I honor his name by dubbing my lord Obeddon Marsh.

The build started as Lord Zhufor from Forgeworld with a few drastic changes. I shaved off all the World Eater iconography, sculpted a new Dagon symbol on the left shoulder pad, added the anchor,  gave him a tentacle, spliced Zhufor's head with a more blight appropriate one and gave him a nasty aquatic looking Daemon Sword made from a modified Tyranid bonesword. The base is a modified Secret Weapon Miniatures one with some appropriate nautical embellishments.

YES! Finally we get some of that anchor business.

I can just picture him tossing it by the chain, shouting "Anchors away!" (Get it? Huh? Huh?)

Wow that is pure chaos sexy time there! Amazing conversion work. This is the reason why I spend more time on the Sci Fi side of this hobby as opposed to the real world side, can pretty much do whatever you want and take a model and personalize it so its truly yours.

If you need any more of those tentacle faces (Cthulu heads) let me know I have lots! Perhaps we can work out some sort of trade...

Cheers,

Mud

I'm not dead! Just haven't been in the 40k mode for a few months. But I'm back to finish some Blight!

Here's my Mariners Blight EXTREME CORROSION Tutorial

Step 1:
After Spraying the model Black, lay down a coat of Vallejo Rust, followed by Vallejo Sandy Brown in a splotchy uneven pattern. Then Mix Vallejo Sandy Brown with Vallejo FIre Red and spray one more splotchy layer.

user posted image

user posted image

Step 2:
After letting the rust layer dry fully, spray the model with a coat of clear matte (I use Vallejo cause I'm a Vallejo Product Whore). Then spray the model with hairspray and sprinkle salt on it.

user posted image

user posted image

Step 3:
Spray the entire model evenly with Vallejo Pale Green.

user posted image

user posted image

Step 4:
This is where the fun begins. I sprayed the entire model with a thinned coat of green Ranger Distress Crackle. The thinned coat will not crackle much at all…but it will overlay a zenithal lighting effect on the green. I then took a brush and applied heavy coats of the crackle paint to larger sections of armor. NOW THAT CRACKLED.

user posted image

user posted image

Step 5:
After drying, remove all the salt with a heavy brush and warm water. Let it dry over night.

user posted image

user posted image

Step 6:
At this point the model is looking pretty weathered, but it could use na extra kick to amplify the crackle effect. I sprayed the entire model with a very thinned wash of SWM Algae Wash. After drying I sprayed a super thin coat of SWM Amethyst Wash, and then a final super thin coat of SWM Blue Black Wash.

And BOOM! Decades of decay in 2 days.

Welcome back!

Very good! Looks a lot like what I'd expect from sea-bound errosion. After picking out the details, it'll look downright awesome, I wager smile.gif
