That's because of the height of your model, since the process builts it layer by layer even if you have hollowed out the shaped the "printer have to lay down some "support' resin before laying down what I call the model resin..So the higher the model more expensive it will be.. Try to break down your model in flat pannels...

Here's a bunch I did a while ago. I ordered the whole fleet myself, and then made the smaller groups from that joint model, but for some reason, some aren't printable. http://www.shapeways.com/shops/mirostudios

the only reasons i can think they arent printable is because you have incomplete solids or because some main structural elements are outside their print tolerances?

so i retried the humvee model and now the cost is down to ~$60 (originally it was ~$100)....
I guess I could order 1 as a master then recast in resin....

I apologize if this is the wrong place....
Will anyone here make their skills available to do the digital design part for creating shapeways pieces.
I can create all the pre-measured plans for what I want (wide tracks for tanks, some greebels for infantry) but I have no skill with available 3d programs.
What would the use of your skills cost me?
Right now I'm just looking at the viability and cost of this.
Thanks.
