Bought today IA vol3 The Taros Campaign so I could get the Elysians army list and start planning the list based on which to build my airborne lads.

I recently placed wee tine order to FW, just command squad and melta squad of Elysians, so progress might be bit slow as the order might take a while before arriving. Anyhow I can spent the time building sentry turrets etc.

Anyways, I thought that I would start first with a Patrol force of 400 points. Not that I plan to play patrol that much but building in stages might suit me best. And I will be ordering in small amounts from FW so .... well, even a long journey starts with one (small) step so here goes:

Command Squad (270 points incl. 1st & 2nd Squad):
Lt + vox + medic + melta + trooper + frags to all

1st Squad:
Sgt + vox + melta + demo charge + 6 troopers + frags to all

2nd Squad:
Sgt + vox + melta + demo charge + 6 troopers + frags to all

Sentry Gun Battery (30 points):
HB sentry + HB sentry

Drop Sentinel Squadron (100 points):
HB Sentinel with H/K missile + HB Sentinel with H/K missile

total: 400 points

Any comments? Ideas from those who are more familiar with Elysian list?

That was the discussion that made me do it! That is, order Elysians smile.gif Plasma would definately be good in a sense, maybe when I later expand the list to, say, 1000 points. My next order will consist probably of two squads and if my wallet gives a green light, the sentinels.

Thinking of cammo scheme for these already... I hope to build one day a board with late 19th century feel, enhanced bit 40K elements of course. And more accurately Imperial Russian style as the conscripts of my normal IG list come from an agri-world themed to that direction. So maybe my airborne troops will have cammo of modern Russian airborne? Then again it might be too big of a challenge to my painting skills blink.gif

Will look for some pics and add (edit) here later.

EDIT: found a nice site in English:
http://www.sovietairborne.com/AirborneMainPage.html

So quite basic "Russian Green" uniforms and body armour just different shade of green. And winter look doesn't differ that much... Now I should decice what type of climate there's going to be where ever my airborne will operate.

if you want to start small, you could also use the (much nastier) elysian d-99 from IA4. wink.gif
i like your list, and it's a good idea NOT to use plasma in small lists, since the overheat WILL kill you most times. also melta and demo are more killy and you can move+shoot+assault. smile.gif
maybe you could think about changing the hbolters to hflamers (don't have the list here so i'm not sure if they are allowed), those are fun on drop sentinels, who basically start in flamerange. smile.gif
btw, that discussion thread made me change my army from mech to drop, too.^^

It's either melta or heavy bolters for sentinels, and meltas are more costly so at this moment have to do with those heavy bolters.

I have heard so much bad things about the problems people have had recently with their orders from FW that I'm starting to fear it might take months before I get my stuff! Argh.

(Sorry for the double post but since my last one was 11 days ago I hope I'm not put before the firing squad)

But to the business, wuuhuuu! Got my Elysians, just after the wait of bit over 3 weeks! Haven't check the minis yet, hope they are quality stuff and not filled with air bubbles and stuff.

Now I must resist the urge not to start immediately building them, must concentrate on writing work sad.gif

Then after assembling them need to paint few test minis to find a good colour scheme, suggestions more than welcome.

How about Regal Blue armour, Shadow Grey fatigues and Chaos Black Camo?
No wait, thats my one biggrin.gif

Glad to hear you've gotten your Elysians. Seriously though, for the colour scheme, I think a dark grey or dark olive green maybe suitable for the Elysians.

Just my two cent.

Looking forward to seeing your squads. And good luck.

Thanks Anarnaxe, I think I need luck with them. Having checked the lads they seem to be mostly ok, one set of legs had a bubble in foot, so there's a hole in it. That I can manage though with bit of green stuffing.

Now, before starting building them I need to think about the future lists, not only the 400 pt patrol list.

I am thinking to include some veterans in a bigger list but not sure if those veterans will be having plasma or melta. If melta, I can make them out of the guys I got now and just add few unhelmeted heads and extra stuff to show their veteran status. But if I will arm them with plasma, then I have to wait for the new batch to arrive.

And then, should veterans be in cool action poses or more hugging ground? If they managed to survive few drops and engagements, I guess they should have learned to take cover and hide a bit, not just running around with meltas. Then again, running with meltas would suit them as they need to cover the ground between them and enemy in no time before they get wiped out and not having a chance to use those darn short ranged meltas. And of course to lob their demo charges! smile.gif

Dark grey (armour) and olive green uniforms could be a good combo. Then one possibility I'm thinking of is somekind of spring or early autumn steppe colours (rocks, tall dead grass etc). Yet another choice could be semi-urban camos and fourth winter one but have to test the schemes and especially my skills laugh.gif

id like to chime in on the colour sceme if u dont mine. I use 2 play a airborne IG army and they specialised in night drops so there fatigues were choas back (lightly highlighted with code grey) and there body armour wasmidnight blue with a light highlight. This army looked half decend but it made me mad so i sold it lol.

With your army list one thing, Why do you have a medic in your HQ? If u use a medic id say to take a officer with PP, u want the vox and edic plus 2 plasma gunners so the medic can stop them from frying them selfs. Thats my only problem with this list, its making me think about tring another drop list out Scratch.gif.

Night time scheme sounds cool and I bet would look splendid as well. The thing is that my painting skills are not that great and idea of painting black and then highlighting it gives the creeps already smile.gif But I definately will keep this suggestion in mind and if I get enough Elysians then after completing the normal force a small D-99 squad might surface, or is it drop in (sorry for a lame pun).

I know having medic should mean having plasma as well, at least considering gameplay. But that 400 pt list was made based on the models I have/will have collected soonish so no plasma there. And it's nice to have a medic around even without plasmas, makes them more "real" I suppose.

Yeah, you should go for drop troopers, especially since you are a veteran with them thumbs_up.gif Would you happen to have pics left of your previous troops with that night time camoflage?

Catachan drop troopers Scratch.gif You could make them 'Nam type Air Cavalry perhaps, riding Hueys instead of Valkyries, M-16 like autoguns in place of lasguns. Gives you nice conversion opportunities.

Speaking about the colour scheme, once again.

Now, possibilities are thus far:

1) IDF-ish look. Green Olive uniform and grey armour

2) Grey uniform with stipled light camo pattern (prolly black and white) with black armour.

3) Heavily stipples camo pattern: dark grey-green, grey and white; armour same as uniform or black.

4) Like option 1 but with stippled camo pattern of light brown/khaki and dark green. Armour grey or green.

Opinions? This is not a poll but would like to hear what you think. I'll work the bases etc after deciding the colour scheme.

Olive Green uniform, and grey body armour. Really, its the best look for the Elysians. (And this has nothing to do with the fact that I suggested it earlier........ happy.gif )

Well Olive green uniform and grey armour is not option #1 for nothing, I like it most too. Good suggestion Anarnaxe thumbs_up.gif

Dunno how close true Olive green I'm going to get with my skills so experts out there, any tips? What GW and or Vallejo colours should I use?

EDIT: ps. got one guy ready for basecoat, darn I hate superglueing! I need to use superglue-green stuff combo mellow.gif

Remember that a good olive green has a bit of yellow in it. Unless you can just go buy some Olive Green?
