Hi everybody
Last Friday I succumbed to the calling of the Hive Mind and got the battleforce for the Tyranids. Realising that I had to try to be a bit systematic about the whole thing, I first cleaned all the rippers to use them as dummies for testing colour schemes. A couple of hours' work yesterday brought me the following selection of combination (note that to get to this selection, I actually painted even more, but discarded the worst of them along the way):
So, let me hear what you think - what works and what doesn't?

Thanks for all your great replies. It has been a while since I worked on these last, but I have not completely forgotten the project so the other day I looked the replies over once again and sat down with brush and paint. Here's the results:
So, what do you think about it? Any favourites here, or do you have other ideas for new combinations?

is still the best one (IMHO).
I like Tyranids in realistic (i.e. brown/earth/bone etc) colours. The one above looks really promising. Might even steal the idea for a brood of my own :)

I agree 100%. I can actually picture them coming from a desert planet, and ambushing people that invade their home world. If you Do happen to make some sort of scenic base of board for them, make some rocks that are the same colour as their carapace.

It seems that the one everyone seems to be favoring is pretty dang close too my old nids' old paint scheme except for that the tongues kept more with the brownish colour palette. Of course you realize, I would like that one too, just like everyone else.
When it comes to the nids I find the best inspiration is that of grass hoppers and similar insects and the shells of some snail species.
